The visual effects team at “Star Trek: Discovery” are pulling out all the stops for the show’s fifth and final season at Paramount+. In a teaser revealed at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday, Capt. Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) finds herself in the midst of a high-speed chase between the U.S.S. Discovery, the U.S.S. Antares and an alien ship.

“Star Trek: Discovery” is blasting off for one last adventure.

The Paramount+ series, which is led by Sonequa Martin-Green, will officially end with the upcoming fifth and final season in early 2024, it was announced Thursday. Discovery kick-started the current era of the “Star Trek” TV universe across the Paramount family, and there are plans to celebrate the series with celebrations and appearances worldwide over the coming year.

The final season will find Captain Michael Burnham (Martin-Green) and the crew of the USS Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others on the hunt as well — dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.

No series or Starfleet mission can last forever, and one show's time has come. According to Variety, "Star Trek: Discovery" will end with the upcoming fifth season. Additionally, the series was supposed to debut later this year but has been pushed to an early 2024 release. Variety's sources indicate that filming is mostly complete on season 5, but additional shooting has yet to take place that pushes the release date back a bit. That makes sense, given the series is ending and there might be some rewrites to wrap things up nicely, but it also hopefully means that "Discovery" fans will get the kind of send-off they want and deserve.

Star Trek: Discovery will finish up its incredible run on Paramount+ with season five. The streaming service confirmed the popular sci-fi drama is ending with the season five, which is scheduled to arrive in early 2024.

“Star Trek: Discovery” will end with the upcoming Season 5 at Paramount+, Variety has learned. In addition, the fifth and final season will now debut in early 2024 as opposed to this year as originally thought.

Filming is mostly complete on Season 5, but according to an individual with knowledge of the situation, there will be some additional filming that has yet to take place. In addition, Paramount is planning to send the show off in style, with events planned in certain key markets throughout the year leading up to the final season’s release. Further details will be released at a later date.

“I can hardly believe that this mind-blowing journey with ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ is ending,” said series star and producer Sonequa Martin-Green. “I’m astoundingly blessed by God to have played Captain Michael Burnham and to have taken part in a legacy alongside an extraordinary cast, phenomenal crew and remarkable writing team.

The end is in sight for Star Trek: Discovery. Paramount+ announced today that its longest-running original drama series will end with its upcoming fifth season in early 2024.

Star Trek: Discovery is returning for its fifth season in 2023, and Paramount+ has released the first photos and a teaser for the new episodes. The photos show off new cast additions Callum Keith Rennie (above), Eve Harlow, and Elias Toufexis. Star Trek is a big source of content over at Paramount+. In nearly the same business mold, Paramount is providing a ton of lore for the Gene Roddenberry creation, similarly to Disney+ with the Star Wars franchise. New York Comic Con is currently underway (with our own Dave Arroyo in attendance) and has already sported some great surprises. “Star Trek: Discovery” is still filming its fifth season, but the show’s cast and crew showed up at New York Comic-Con to offer a first glimpse at what’s to come.

Along with a sizzle reel for the new season, which you can watch above, “Star Trek” showrunner Alex Kurtzman announced that “The Umbrella Academy” star Callum Keith Rennie is joining the cast along with Eve Harlow (“Agents of Shield”) and Elias Toufexis (“Shadowhunters”).

Rennie will play Capt. Reyner, a Starfleet officer used to commanding his ship in times of war, but finds it much harder to be a leader during times of peace. Harlow and Toufexis will play a pair of couriers who have now turned to a life of crime.

The Star Trek universe beamed into New York Comic Con Saturday for fresh looks at some of its upcoming shows.

The trailer for Picard‘s third and final season revealed the story will involve the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation being hunted by a mysterious villain, unveiled as Vadic. Tony-winning actress Amanda Plummer, who had a memorable role in Pulp Fiction, is playing the alien, who is the captain of a warship called The Shrike. New additions to the cast unveiled Saturday include Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, who will play Ensign Sidney La Forge, the eldest daughter of Geordi La Forge, while Mica Burton will play Alandra La Forge, Geordi’s youngest daughter.
