We have our first trailer for Warner Animation Group’s film Smallfoot. It flips the legend of Bigfoot on its head and tells it from the other perspective. Instead of parents taking their kids camping and scaring them at night with tales of Bigfoot, yetis tell campfire stories about Smallfoot to scare their children. The trailer looks like it has potential to be a fun movie for the family and I’m excited to see more trailers so I can better gauge my interest.

Dorothy of Oz is a new CGI animated musical from Summertime Entertainment, due out in 2012. The panel began with a clip reel composed of a few finished scenes combined with concept art. The montage showed off some of the impressive voice talent such as Glee's Lea Michele (as Dorothy herself), Wicked's Megan Hilty, Dan Aykroyd, Oliver Platt, Martin Short, Kelsey Grammer, Jim Belushi, Hugh Dancy, and Sir Patrick Stewart.
Panelists included producers Bonne Radford & Ryan Carroll, composer Debra Lurie, writer Roger Baum (grandson of original Oz creator L. Frank Baum) and voice actors Megan Hilty & Sir Patrick Stewart, in his first Comic–Con appearance.

Roger Baum said the creation of the new Oz books had its impetus as a personal bet to continue his grandfather's legacy. Producer Radford just wanted to remain faithful to the Baum legacy.

Rumor has it, a sequel to "Wizard of Oz" is coming and Drew Barrymore will be very much involved in the making process. According to Pajiba, the 35-year-old beauty has picked "Surrender Dorothy" to be her second directing vehicle after serving behind the lens for "Whip It!".
The upcoming project was first announced in 2002 and seemed stalled. But apparently "Surrender Dorothy" is still set up at Warner Brothers and Barrymore's production company Flower Films, and now the movie is resurrected.
In the early development, Barrymore was attached to star in the film. However, it is said that she might be a little too old to portray Dorothy's great-great-granddaughter. Thus, Pajiba proposes a name for the lead role, mentioning Ellen Page who has starred in "Whip It!".

Alpine Pictures has signed Martin Short and Jim Belushi as lead voices in its Dorothy of Oz animated musical feature film. Short plays the Jester while and Belushi will be the Cowardly Lion. Unlike previous adaptations based on L. Frank Baum’s series of books, this film will use Roger S. Baum, great-grandson of Frank, and his books. This debut offering from Alpine Pictures, will be produced by Bonne Radford (Curious George) and directed by Daniel St. Pierre (Everyone's Hero). Country star Taylor Swift is the likely voice behind Dorothy Gale. Production is underway with a 2009 release date planned.
A former banker, Baum began writing children’s stories in 1968 but he never wrote in the family’s Oz universe until he was approached by the International Wizard of Oz Club in 1987. Dorothy of Oz was published two years later followed by ten more titles.

Curious George
Margret and H.A. Rey's mischievous monkey (he's technically a chimp, but why quibble with 65 years of tradition?), makes his long-threatened leap to the big screen in "Curious George", with much of the books' charm respectfully intact.
That is good news for those left a little concerned by Universal and Imagine's rather shrill and soulless take on Dr. Seuss' "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" Here, H.A. Rey's lovely artwork has been preserved in gentle 2-D animation in lieu of being morphed into some kind of CGI-freak show.
The curious thing about "George", though, is that it might have erred on the side of being a little too benign.
Fleshing out the script to give the enigmatic Man in the Yellow Hat a much greater presence in order to accommodate Will Ferrell's decidedly 3-D personality has meant curtailing a chunk of George's shenanigans and the film bears the weight of the resulting imbalance.
Although the revised buddy picture might have some viewers taking that "Show Me the Monkey!" tagline to heart, youngsters should be appropriately tickled, while older viewers will still happily bask in all that mellow yellow nostalgia.
The screen story begins in a timeless New York-like metropolis, where the man not yet in possession of the ubiquitous banana-hued headgear, known here as Ted (voiced by Ferrell), works as a curator at the Bloomsberry Museum.
During one of his enthusiastic museum tours, Ted meets smitten schoolteacher Maggie (Drew Barrymore), but their mutual attraction is put on hold when owner Mr. Bloomsberry Dick Van Dyke), announces that the museum will have to close because of sagging attendance.
In a last ditch effort to save the establishment and prevent Bloomsberry's scheming son (David Cross) from turning the place into a parking lot, Ted embarks on a trek to Africa with plans to bring back a gigantic idol from the lost shrine of the Zagawa tribe.
Alas, the fabled statue that Ted uncovers proves to be even smaller than the little monkey (noises by Frank Walker) he befriends and who subsequently stows away aboard the ship.
Once George arrives in the big city, the rest, for tens of millions of fans, is mischief-making history.
Director Matthew O'Callaghan ("Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas") certainly demonstrates a reverence for both the look and rhythms of the books, but he's dealing with a slippery script (by Ken Kaufman, who shares story credit with Mike Werb) that has a habit of losing its grip on what should be its main subject.
Even though George doesn't talk, Ted does enough for both of them, and after a while his running monologue, despite Ferrell's best improvisational efforts, begins to put a crimp in the requisite monkey business.
Hopefully any sequel will deliver More George, but in the meantime this thoughtful adaptation gets it mostly right, from those warm visuals to the amiable cast (also including the voices of Joan Plowright and Eugene Levy) to Jack Johnson's breezy, laid-back original tunes.
