2004 was a notable year for television viewers. “Friends” wrapped up its 10-year run; Ken Jennings had his first winning streak on “Jeopardy!”; Illinois senator Barack Obama made a splash with a keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention; new series “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives” became obsessions. And the news was constantly filled with stories from the Iraq war.

Then, on Oct. 30, a network known as the Gospel Music Channel was born. “I remember thinking ‘Wow, it’s the perfect time to have something positive and uplifting and there was probably nothing more hopeful than gospel music,” says Charles “Charley” Humbard, the founder and CEO of Up Entertainment.

Humbard is aware that a faith-based music channel might not have been the obvious choice for a new network, but he saw indicators that told him they were on the right path. “The landscape was really good at the time,” he says.

Major Spoilers follow for X-Men ‘97!

Well, that was quite the ending! We imagine you have a lot of questions regarding the popular Disney+ show’s finale. Beau DeMayo’s animated series certainly went out with a bang in the final episode of its first season, titled Tolerance Is Extinction – Part 3.

Marvel put a great finish to the first season of X-Men ‘97, laying the groundwork for an exciting future for the revived mutant series and raising the stakes significantly for the live-action X-Men films in the MCU.

Following Season 17's conclusion, fans wonder if Heartland will continue with Season 18 and what it may have in store.

Starring Amber Marshall, Chris Potter, and Shaun Johnston, Heartland is Canada's longest-running one-hour scripted TV drama which follows the lives of the Fleming-Barlett family on their Alberta horse ranch. 

CBC renewed Heartland in May 2023 for a 10-episode Season 17, which aired from October 1 to December 3 of the same year.

X-Men ’97 has been diving into a host of storylines from the comics, not refraining from going towards the more complex plot points that make an appearance in X-Men comics. Characters from the original animated series have been making a comeback in X-Men ’97. This has also allowed a slew of actors from the original series to return to their roles. X-Men ’97 delivered one of the most hard-hitting character deaths when the animated series killed off the fan-favorite mutant Gambit. In the show’s fifth episode, Gambit sacrifices himself to save the other mutants, dying a heroic death. However, voice actor Chris Potter is seemingly unhappy with the character’s fate.

Disney Plus’ X-Men ’97 has been confirmed for seasons 2 and 3. While the show’s season 1 is still unraveling its roaring success has prompted Marvel Studios to start working on the upcoming instalments. The show continues the story of 1992’s X-Men: The Animated Series.

A major update recently revealed that two of X-Men ’97‘s key crew members from season 1 will return to season 2. The update means that the second season of the Disney Plus show will have the same powerful music as the first.

A new breed of creature-features was unleashed in the 1990s and continued well into the next decade. Shaking off the ecological messaging of the past, these monsters existed for the sake of pure mayhem. Just to name a few: Tremors, The Relic, Anaconda, Godzilla, Deep Rising and Lake Placid all showcased this trend of irreverent creature chaos. Reptiles and other scaly beasts proved to be a popular source of inspiration for these films, but for that extra crawly experience, bugs were the best and quickest route. Spiders, in particular, led some of the worst infestations on screen in the early 2000s. And on the underbelly of this creeping new wave — specifically the direct-to-video sector — hangs an overlooked offering of spider horror: Arachnid.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Hale replaces Catherine Disher as Jean Grey, Chris Potter switched from Gambit to Cable for "X-Men '97," with A.J. A feature film based on the classic 1970s TV series Kung Fu has been in development for some time, and now it seems to be moving forward at Universal Pictures and 87North.

According to Deadline, John Wick director David Leitch will helm the film from a screenplay by Stephen Chin, with Ip Man star Donnie Yen set to play Kwai Chang Caine, a role first inhabited by David Carradine.

Martial arts icon Bruce Lee famously auditioned for the lead role in the original 1972 series, but lost out, of course, to Carradine. He played Caine, a spiritual monk who roams the Old West in the 1800s, wandering into confrontations and fist fights every week. The show proved popular, with phrases like ‘grasshopper’ making their way into the cultural lexicon.

In a year of reduced Marvel output, there are still a lot of interesting comic book adaptations emerging in 2024 from both Sony and Marvel Studios. The wholesome family saga “Heartland” almost galloped onto the small screen without Jessica Amlee back in Oct. 14, 2007. The Canadian actress and her teenage character, Mallory Wells, were not initially part of the pilot. “They added me in because they needed a younger face,” Amlee tells Et Canada. Flash forward to January 2023, when Heartland will be celebrating its 245th episode. Amlee, for one, can’t help but marvel at the show’s longevity.

“I remember in the first season, I think it was the third episode, we had discovered how many people were watching ‘Heartland’ at the time,” Amlee recalls. “We were shocked it got picked up for a second season. We were living off that high of, ‘Wow, people are actually watching.’ At the time, 500,000 people were watching. It was this huge deal. The new season will feature 15 episodes — an increase from last season’s 10 — and will find the Bartlett-Fleming family coming together as never before to face their fears and being the next chapter in their lives.

“For Amy that means taking the blinders off and looking at her life with renewed hope and focus,” notes the synopsis. “She’ll be challenged by the horses that need her help, but she’ll also open herself up to the possibility of new friendships and maybe even romance.”

Meanwhile, Amy’s daughter, Lyndy (played by Ruby and Emmanuella Spencer) will follow in her mother’s footsteps as her talents with horses start to develop over the course of the season.

Norah Jones, Esperanza Spalding, and Angelique Kidjo’s Remain in Light are among the artists set to perform the 2022 Newport Jazz Festival, which takes place at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island July 29 through July 31.

If you're like me, you've been watching Good Witch since it's first movie premiered in 2008.

You probably know the characters like the back of your hand.

That's why I'm thrilled to share that Good Witch Season 6 is a go at Hallmark! There is some less-than-stellar news to report, also, though. Someone won't be returning when the sixth season begins.

Catherine Bell has starred as Cassie Nightingale since the series began, but Cassie's life looked a whole lot different when she first got to Middleton.

She was a mysterious newcomer with a surprising family connection to the town, and she was also single and ready to mingle!

Throughout the Good Witch movie franchise, we got to know Cassie and followed her life as she met and married Jake Russell, father of two to Brandon and Lori.

Cassie was a wonderful mother, so we were even more excited when she got pregnant and gave birth to Grace.
