When prospective students of the University of Southern California visit the school, tour guides like to point out several noteworthy landmarks on campus: Heritage Hall and its multiple Heisman trophies on display, the symbolic Tommy Trojan statue and Norris Cinema Theatre, where students of all majors congregate each Thursday night to watch and discuss cinema with famed film critic Leonard Maltin.
The class, officially titled Ctcs-466: Theatrical Film Symposium, was founded by a fellow critic, Arthur Knight, in the early 1960s. He proposed filmmakers bring their latest work to campus for youthful, eager minds to absorb and discuss. Stewardship of the class passed to L.A. Times critic Charles Champlin in 1985, and eventually, the opportunity to take over one of USC’s most popular electives was presented to Maltin.

Note: The following contains spoilers for the “Loki” Season 2 finale
Despite recently telling “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon that the “Loki” Season 2 finale marks the end of his 14-year journey as the God of Mischief, actor Tom Hiddleston told TheWrap that a potential return down the road is always a possibility.
The “Loki” Season 2 finale certainly marks an endpoint for the character, but Hiddleston said he’s open to another return if the right opportunity arises.
“In the past, I’ve said goodbye to the character and written my thank you notes and been in touch with all the guys at Marvel Studios. And they’ve always said, ‘Feel free to drop by anytime, you’ll always be part of the family.’ And then, a year later, the phone rings with ‘we got an idea’,” the actor told TheWrap. “So I think at this point, I keep an open heart and an open mind.

Released in 2011, "Thor" was a key part of proving that the Marvel Cinematic Universe could work conceptually. Without the rights to characters like Spider-Man or the X-Men, Marvel Studios needed to prove that heroes that had less clout with the general public could still lead successful cinematic adventures. Thanks in no small part to Chris Hemsworth's very likable portrayal of the God of Thunder, the film was a rare success for the fantasy genre (albeit disguised as a superhero film), earning $449 million globally. Thor would then go on to become a big part of 2012's "The Avengers," which was an even bigger, record-breaking success.

Prepare to light 1,000 gallons of gasoline on fire because Warner Bros. may be hiring Michael Bay to direct Lobo!
Believe it or not, Michael Bay has never directed a superhero film. Crazy, right? Giant explosions, supernatural abilities, over the top action, seems like it would be right up his alley. Well, according to a new report by The Wrap, Warner Bros. is hoping that the Transformers director will make his superhero cinematic debut with DC's anti-hero, Lobo.
Warner Bros. has tried to make a movie for the 7 foot tall blue mercenary since 2009, but have been stalled along the way. Initially, Guy Ritchie was attached to the project, using a screenplay by the late Don Payne. Then, it went into the hands of San Andreas director Brad Peyton. WB is working feverishly to make Bay the one to finally put the loudmouth biker on the big screen. They've even gone...

As Alan Parker said ‘no one sets out to make a bad film’. Yet in spite of good intentions, sometimes a project doesn't quite go to plan. We're going to look at a bunch of movies here that aren't always well liked, and give a flavour of the problems the beset them.
So, in no particular order, here are twenty of the films that have ever been made, which are considered by at least one sentient being to be bad. That's not the interesting thing about them....
Robin Hood (2010)
Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris had written a spec script with a twist on the Robin Hood legend: the Sheriff of Nottingham was the hero, a sort of medieval forensic investigator, and Robin was the bad guy.

According to The Wrap, Warner Bros. has hired Wonder Woman scribe Jason Fuchs to work on the script for their long-gestating Lobo movie. The last word we had on this one was back in 2012 when San Andreas director Brad Peyton signed on to helm the picture, but because there had been no news since then most of us assumed it was destined to remain in development hell. Could the success of a certain R-rated X-Men spinoff be responsible for Lobo's revival? I'd say it's a safe enough bet. Though Don Payne had written a script previously, apparently "Fuchs will start from scratch with his own take on Lobo". What do you guys think of this news? Sound off below ya fraggin' bastiches.

When the “Every Simpsons Ever” mega-marathon of The Simpsons began last Thursday on Fxx, it renewed interest in a show that will go down as one of the all-time greats—but has nevertheless been struggling commercially and creatively for awhile at this point. The show’s unimpeachable heyday in the ’90s is rightfully heralded, and as the marathon got going, it was those episodes that created the most excitement. Sure, they’ve been out on DVD for some time, but rebroadcasting them in order emphasized how great the show was at its peak.

Thor: The Dark World Blu-Ray Review
The second installment of the Thor saga has plenty of action, but misses the mark to a certain extent when it comes to the wide array of facets it hopes to infuse into the story. The dedication to, and belief in, the depth and breadth of the various arcs in the story are solidified in the bonus features of the home release, and while the exposition makes for elaborate and detailed featurettes, they probably serve as too clear a sign of what went wrong with the production.
Thor: The Dark World kicks off with a rather clunky piece of development that leaves Thor explaining the events of The Avengers, his time back on Earth, and subsequent lack of phone call to Jane. Of course, the film also needs a villain to come and destroy a good chunk of the map and/or threaten to do same,...

Thor: The Dark World grossed $632 million at the global box office. Those aren’t Iron Man 3 numbers: Robert Downey Jr.’s post-Avengers outing grossed almost twice as much last year. Marvel Studios has proven to be worth Disney’s $4 billion acquisition by tapping its library for film franchises. Now, the company has found the writer of its third installment of Thor by looking inward. Craig Kyle, senior vice president of Production and Development for Marvel, has gotten the job of co-writing with Christopher Yost. It’s a good way to start his foray into full-time screenwriting, and he has been signed by CAA. Yost cowrote Thor: The Dark World with Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely from a story by Don Payne and Robert Rodat. The Simpsons gave a touching, albeit super-quick, tribute to late co-star Marcia Wallace in Sunday’s episode. An opening credits sequence showing Springfield-as-winter-wonderland featured a brief flash of Wallace’s beloved character, Bart’s teacher Edna Krabappel, with angel wings. She’s joined in the shot by a likeness of Simpsons writer Don Payne, who also died recently. “e wanted to do a tribute to two terrific people, Marcia and Don,” Simpsons executive producer Al Jean told E! Chances are you missed a heartwarming Simpsons tribute from the Sunday, Dec. 15 episode of the hit Fox animated comedy. In the opening couch gag titled "White Christmas Blues," The Simpsons not only paid tribute to Seinfeld and the grand tradition of Festivus, but it also had a nice little moment for Mrs. Krabappel, Bart's teacher played by the late Marcia Wallace. In the blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene, Mrs. Krabappel is featured as angel with her signature no nonsense arm-crossed stance next to late Simpsons writer Don Payne. "The Simpsons" is covering all of its holiday bases with the next couch gag, which will air before Sunday's (Dec. 15) episode, "White Christmas Blues." The entire opening has been redone with a Christmas theme, though there are shout outs to pretty much every December holiday on the calendar, including Festivus.
There's also a nice tribute to those in the "Simpsons" family who died in 2013, star Marcia Wallace (Mrs. Krabappel) and writer Don Payne. They both appear as angels, among the citizens of Springfield. It's the second tribute to Wallace, after Bart wrote a single "We'll really miss you, Mrs. K." on the chalkboard during the Nov. 3 episode.

‘Thor: The Dark World’ box office: ‘The Avengers’ bump to lead to $100 million weekend debut? Not likely (Photo: Chris Hemsworth in ‘Thor: The Dark World’) Thor: The Dark World opened with an estimated $7.1 million from Thursday evening, November 7, 2013, and Friday midnight shows at 3,841 North American theaters — more than 3,100 of those offering the Thor sequel in 3D. Directed by Alan Taylor, and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston, Thor: The Dark World far surpassed its Kenneth Branagh-directed predecessor at the domestic box office; the first film took in $3.3 million from Friday midnight screenings back in May 2011. (See also: “‘Thor 2′ box office: No Iron Man, Superman, Spider-Man, Batman.”) Now, one should remember that we’re comparing apples and pineapples here: the original Thor didn’t have the advantage of Thursday evening shows; also, the Branagh film was initially screened at only 1,800 locations. Chris Hemsworth, the thunder from down under, embodies the role again and this time, he must team up with his brother/enemy (can we call it bronemy?), to help save Jane (Oscar winner Natalie Portman also returning for the role) and the world. The big bad is Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) and his Dark Elves, and they.re hell bent on destroying Asgard and the Nine Realms, yup, Earth included! Can Thor save us all?
Not returning for the sequel is original director Kenneth Branagh. In his place is .Game of Thrones. director, Alan Taylor. The script is written by Christopher Yost, Christopher Markus, Stephen McFreely, and Don Payne.

Tom Hiddleston spoke with Flicks and the City at the Thor: The Dark World premiere. Christopher Yost spoke with Newsarama about how a comic book writer transitioned to working on the script for Thor: The Dark World. "I was working in the Marvel Studios' Writers Program, doing development scripts on the next generation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe while Thor was doing some additional photography. I was asked by Marvel exec Craig Kyle to help out with a few scenes, some random lines here and there. It was great, I got to work with Kenneth Branagh and hang out on set for a couple of weeks… but then in my second year in the program, they began brainstorming on Thor: The Dark World. I was fortunate enough to know and work with Don Payne, who had written on both movies, and from there eventually got a crack at writing a draft of the script.

Check out the new clip from Marvel’S Thor: The Dark World featuring Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth.
Hiddleston has been absolutely phenomenal as Henry V in PBS Great Performances - The Hollow Crown. The filmed series is a remarkable adaptation of four of Shakespeare’s most gripping history plays; Richard II, Henry IV, Part 1, Henry IV, Part 2 and Henry V.
While he may be formidable as the villain Loki in the Thor movies, nothing compares to his regal portrayal as King Henry who rallies the troops with the famous speech, “We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.”

A rather lengthy TV spot for Thor: The Dark World has arrived and it actually has quite a bit of plot to it. I'm very curious to see how this film performs given I'm one of the few that seems to enjoy the first Thor and wonder if this latest installment may bring more people around to my side or if it will have the reverse effect on me and cause me to lose a little of the entertainment factor I find in the first one. I'm going to tell you right now, if you see one movie starring Chris Hemsworth this fall, see Rush. I say this, obviously, without having seen Thor: The Dark World yet, but I have the utmost confidence it will be a far more rewarding experience. "But Brad, how can you say such a thing without having seen Thor 2!c!c!" you ask. Well, because I have a certain measure of common sense I trust and I say this while admitting Thor is probably my overall favorite of the Phase One Marvel films, even over The Avengers, which is great on a first viewing, but does lose its steam upon repeated viewings while I've found the first Thor to be just as ridiculously entertaining each time out. Yes, I've actually seen it three times. Today I have an extended trailer for the new Thor feature, which arrives in theaters on...
