- Bull-necked, ruddy-complexioned American character actor, who appeared in many a B-movie as hearty, jovial types or perpetually mystified police officers. Alternatively, he was prone to show up as prison wardens, heavy fathers or outright villains. Had regular spots in Universal's 'Ma and Pa Kettle' series (as small town businessman Billy Reed) and on the western series 'Lawman' (as the bartender).
- First performed as a concert violinist, then became a booking agent. Began working from 1930 as actor/narrator on industrial films made in Detroit.
