Finding out that the Qi elves got something wrong is as oddly satisfying as watching a waiter drop a tray of glasses. It doesn’t happen that often, but when it does, it’s a sight to behold.
Series T of Qi is currently airing, with Sandi Toksvig once again steering the ship of Quite Interesting facts and Alan Davies still on board as regular panellist.
Before we add too many of their fun facts to our bank of things to impress with at parties (or more likely make us look like insufferable know-it-alls), let’s remind ourselves of the times Qi got it wrong.
Flobbadob
Who knew harmless 1950s puppets Bill and Ben would end up the source of Qi controversy? In series B, Stephen Fry claimed the language these flowerpot men puppets spoke was called ‘Flobbadob’, named after the sound of the farts made by the creator’s brothers in their childhood baths.

2018 Olivier Awards nominations: ‘Hamilton’ lands record 13, ‘The Ferryman’ leads among plays with 8
Two years after sweeping the Tony Awards, Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s musical “Hamilton” is poised to do the same at the British equivalent, the Olivier Awards. On March 6, it reaped a record 13 bids for these top theater prizes, shattering the record set by the musical “Hairspray” in 2008 and equalled by the play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” last year. On the play side, the leading contender is Jez Butterworth‘s “The Ferryman,” a dark drama about the Irish troubles which is set to come to Broadway in the fall.
Winners will be announced in a ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall on April 8 hosted by Catherine Tate. Unlike the Tony Awards, which are showcased live on CBS, the Olivier Awards get only a clips package on ITV later that evening and a live feed on BBC Radio 2.

"I hear you're having some issues... Want to talk about it?" Kaleidoscope has debuted an official trailer for a horror thriller titled Nails, about a woman who wakes up in the hospital after a brutal car accident. She discovers that she is paralyzed and trapped inside her own body. Forced to communicate with an artificial voice program and hooked to a breathing machine, she becomes convinced that a terrifying presence called Nails exists inside her hospital room, and attempts to convince everyone that he wants to kill her. Shauna Macdonald stars, along with Ross Noble, Leah McNamara, Steve Wall, Charlotte Bradley, Dennis Bartok, and Richard Foster-King. This also doesn't look that great, but maybe I'm just not into this kind of ghost horror story. I'm also a bit bothered by the guy trying to imitate Anthony Hopkins, not too original. Here's the official trailer (+ two posters) for Dennis Bartok's Nails,...

After suffering a near-fatal accident whilst running, Dana (Shauna MacDonald, The Descent 1&2) is left paralysed in hospital with only an automated voice program to communicate. The accident not only puts a strain on Dana’s marriage to Steve (Steve Wall, The Vikings) but she soon believes that she is being haunted by serial killer and former hospital employee Eric Nilsson (Richard Foster-King, It Never Sleeps).
With Horror becoming a mainstream affair in recent years, it’s always a pleasant surprise when interesting ideas surface in the genre. In this case, Nails succeeds as our protagonist Dana faces varying degrees of challenges such as being bed ridden with only a laptop to communicate whilst facing the ghoulish antagonist Nails. This spares the audiences from the cliched nature of female lead horrors, having them run endlessly around corridors of spooky old houses.
The setting of the film enhances this positive too,...

In Dennis Bartok’s debut horror flick, Shauna Macdonald is an injured athletics coach who learns the hideous secret of the hospital in which she is a patient
Writer-director Dennis Bartok’s mildly diverting debut horror film is a cheerfully derivative exercise in jump scares, dark shadows and low-budget-driven aesthetics. In Dublin, hyper-fit athletics coach Dana (Shauna Macdonald) is hit by a car while out running. She wakes up with a respirator in her throat and serious injuries in a spooky hospital that hardly seems to have any patients, even though her nurse, Trevor (comedian Ross Noble), complains bitterly about being overworked.
As Dana slowly recovers and learns to use a laptop to communicate with her caregivers, husband (Steve Wall), and teen daughter (Leah McNamara), she learns about the hospital’s hideous secret: years ago, a nurse there killed children, died and then seemingly transmogrified into a variant on internet-meme-turned-urban-myth Slender Man,...

Nails stars Shauna MacDonald (The Descent) and comedian Ross Noble in a story about a woman trapped in her hospital room with a malevolent spirit. Ross Noble is a law unto himself. The wild, energetic Geordie has made his name doing surreal, semi-improvised ramblings under the guise of stand-up comedy. He’s a performer like no other and his shows are unforgettable experiences.
He’s a man for whom the phrase “expect the unexpected” might have been coined. He’ll tackle hundreds of topics in a show, and bring a fresh angle to each and every one.
As a result, there are some wonderful moments of his comedy which deserve to be shared with a wider audience. His shows are best viewed in their entirety, but there are some clips which stand out as little bits of genius all on their own.
Often the brilliance lies in the sheer surreality of it all, but (very) occasionally, a Ross Noble joke will make you think. Primarily though, he’s someone who enjoys trying to make people laugh,...

From The Dark is the latest feature film from Stitches writer/director Conor McMahon. Where his Irish horror comedy, starring Ross Noble, played for bloody, gross out laughs and utilised an extensive cast to tell its tale, From The Dark is a vampire movie about a couple trapped on a remote peat farm.
However, this inaugural viewing by Nerdly is not under normal press screening conditions. Your reviewer is in Brussels, Belgium for his first ever Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (Bifff) experience. Before the film the queue snaking its way around the whole of the basement of the Brussels Centre For Fine Arts created a real sense of excitement and anticipation. For this newbie it was no indication of what was to follow once we sat down and waited for the lights to go down.

Michael Ball recalls how he accidentally flashed Cher's "bits" to the nation in tonight's (February 10) Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled.
The singer speaks to Davies about the embarrassing incident, which happened during an episode of his music show on ITV.
Ball explains that after the pair sang a duet, he lifted up the 'Believe' singer in celebration.
"I went up to her and I picked her up and twirled her, and she's screaming, 'Put me down I haven't put my knickers on'," he remembers.
"And I flashed her bits to the nation. I thought my work had been done."
Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled airs on Dave at 10pm tonight, with Ball, Angela Barnes, Janet Street-Porter and Ross Noble appearing as guests.

Talk about your taboo subjects – rarely will you get anyone (under the age of 20 anyway) addressing the subject of sex with anything less than complete callousness and a “Yeah man, no big deal”-style ethos, or a ten-foot poll extension that makes sure they never have to go anywhere near it.
In video games the idea of portraying one of the most talked-about and divisive subjects in history has tended to be about as credible as the technology used to render it. For all the hoopla around Lara Croft’s ample chest-balloons on the PR materials that surrounded the original Tomb Raider, in-game those luscious lady-lumps were turned into chest-based pyramids with angles that would make the Egyptians jealous.
Furthermore, the very idea of thinking a collection of pixels bouncing off each other could be sexually attractive is something that’s not helped when even now it...

If Eddie Redmayne is lucky, his unsuccessful Lord of the Rings audition tape - which he treated us to a rendition of this week - will never see the light of day.
Sadly, some actors aren't so fortunate...
1. Josh Hutcherson
If nothing else, this audition is certainly… elaborate. A pre-Hunger Games, and inexplicably spotty, Josh Hutcherson went up for the lead in The Amazing Spider-Man – a role which eventually went to Andrew Garfield.
It's not the most cerebral of auditions. In three minutes, Josh only manages to say "Thanks" and "Late for class", followed by another "Thanks".
Not that it's important when your tape features you beating up three men, doing a backflip and jumping about seven foot in the air. Backwards.
2. Gerard Butler
Or is that Ross Noble? Sporting offensive amounts of eyeliner and a dodgy accent, Gerard Butler gave this pretty bad audition for the role of Dracula in Wes Craven's 2000 movie,...

Deadly Friend Death by Basketball
by Mike Hassler
Deadly Friend is not a good movie. At all. Wes Craven’s really hit or miss, in case you didn’t already realize this — for every Last House on the Left there’s a Vampire in Brooklyn, and for a Nightmare on Elm Street there’s a Shocker. His 1986 cheese-tastic gem Deadly Friend is quite a fun watch just for it’s terrible nature. The preposterous plot is of a young man implanting a computer chip into the girl next door’s brain which then gives her superpowers and causes her to go homicidal. The best moment? When our cybernetically altered hottie Samantha (Kristy Swanson) chucks a basketball at Anne “Mama” Ramsey’s head, which literally...

Alan Davies has a new Dave show... but it doesn't have a title. As Yet Untitled - which begins tonight - sees the Qi star sitting down with a bunch of comedians for a bit of a natter - and the only 'format' is that they come up with a title for the episode at the end. Mainly, it's just funny, sometimes sad conversations with a bunch of interesting people... which seems novel. We caught up with Alan to find out more...

Dave has announced its first rebrand since its launch in 2007.
The popular digital channel will phase in a new identity on air and online from Tuesday (April 29).
Red Bee has designed a new look for the channel, having originally created the launch seven years ago.
Over 40 new idents and humorous visuals will be used between programmes, UKTV's Will Gunton and Hik Sasaki revealed today.
"We want people to think of Dave not just as a place you visit but a mate you want to spend time with, even when you can't get near a telly," said Gunton. "In a world crowded with hundreds of channels, Dave has always stood out for its unique personality, which gives us the ability to talk and act in ways which others can't.
"This refresh is designed to inject this unique persona into everything we do on- and off-screen and expand the Dave brand to an even bigger audience.

As a society we have always had a fascination with clowns, they’re funny, crazy and sometimes just outright creepy and scary. Thanks to the Steven King novel that was made into the 1990 hit film It, long gone are the years where we could attend a child’s birthday party without wondering if the source of entertainment has a body count in their basement. My first viewing of the film Stitches was during the 2012 Mile High Horror Film Festival, of course going into the theater I was expecting a typical tale where the clown creeps me out and I have to swear off the carnival for a month or so, leaving the theater I had turned into a huge fan of the film.
Stitches is an Irish horror comedy that is brought to us by director Conor McMahon and starring Ross Noble as our pleasantly lewd but loveable clown.

With pretty much every comedian bringing out their own, respective live tour DVD for Christmas, there are few who are quite as established as Ross Noble – presenting his 9th live DVD. Available now – for those who are leaving their Christmas shopping late this year – we caught up with Noble to discuss his hilarious new show.
Noble discusses what’s on his mind (as interesting as you’d imagine), he tells us how he approaches his live shows – improvising the vast majority of it and allowing for much audience participation – while he also explains how he balances comedy with his young family, and whether he may make a return to the big screen one day…
Mindblender is available now on DVD, and you can catch up with our coverage on the ‘Ultimate Week of Comedy’ here.

Since stepping on to the comedy circuit well over a decade ago, Reginald D Hunter has picked up plenty of fans for his stand-up without too much fuss.
He steadily increased his profile with regular appearances on shows like Have I Got News For You and 8 Out of 10 Cats, but this year was splashed over the middle pages after a controversial set for the Professional Footballers' Association (Pfa) and a subsequent Facebook spat over the nature of his material.
As he releases his second live DVD In the Midst of Crackers, Digital Spy got on the phone with Reginald to ask him about comedy, social media and "position takers". We stuck on the tape recorder and got out of his way.
Do you feel more English after 15 years here? Do you get accused of having a British accent back home?
"Oh, I get that. I don't feel it, but they say I sound more British.

Jimmy Carr has defended Mock the Week after it was recently criticised by Ross Noble.
Noble called the programme "terrible" and took issue with its lack of improvisation and "pages and pages" of scripts used by the panellists.

Despite having never appeared on the show himself, Carr told Digital Spy ahead of the Royal Variety Performance (November 25) that he enjoyed the comedy panel quiz.
"I'm a big fan of lots of different types of TV. I think Dara [Ó Briain] is an exceptional performer," he said.

Ross Noble’s unmatched talent for abstract and laugh out loud streams of consciousness will be sure to delight young and old. A comedy favourite, Ross’ on-stage exuberance and cerebral style have established him as one of the best live comedians in the world.

"I was on an American TV show a couple of years ago and tried to do the mean, snarky comedy that Americans really like," Adam Hills told Digital Spy when we ask him about his new DVD and "unofficial new religion" Happyism.

We’ve all got that cousin we don’t know very well. The kind you see once or twice a year, make small talk, ask how work is going, meet their kids you can’t remember the names of, and then go on your way, knowing six months are to pass before you have to go through it all again. Well, in regards to keeping up appearances, these cousins all need Christmas presents, and knowing what to buy somebody you don’t know very well, isn’t the easiest of tasks.
However that task has just been made far more accomplishable, as next week – which we’ve decided to extravagantly call the ‘ultimate week of comedy’ – marks the release of an incredible 10 stand up comedians’ live DVDs and Blu-rays, all hitting our (mostly virtual) shelves on November 18th, and where better to begin your festive shopping than with comedy? So,...

New Sky Atlantic comedy series Set List: Stand-Up Without a Net is due to air from December.
The 14-part series sees the likes of Robin Williams, Frank Skinner and Ross Noble take on a fully improvised stand-up show in front of a live audience.
Russell Kane and Drew Carey have also been lined up to take part in the series, which sees three comics in each episode take to the stage with an unseen set list of themes and ideas devised by comic Paul Provenza and series creator Troy Conrad.
The show will also give a glimpse into the backstage reaction from other comedians as they watch each other's live, unplanned routines.
Episodes with Tim Minchin, Dara Ó Briain and other worldwide stand-up acts currently appear on the Nerdist YouTube channel.

Ross Noble has criticised Mock the Week, branding the panel show "terrible".
The comedian, who has frequently appeared on Have I Got News for You, condemned the Dara Ó Briain-fronted series for a perceived lack of improvisation.
When asked why he has never taken part in Mock the Week, Noble told the Radio Times: "Because it's terrible.
"If you watch Mock the Week, watch when the camera goes wide, look at the scripts - they've got pages and pages of them.
"You watch Have I Got News for You and they show a wide shot, there are no notes there. You watch Mock the Week, there are A4 pages spread out if you look at the desk in front of them."
He went on to say: "When you see spin the wheel, what subject could be coming up now and you do a little bit of stand-up about it -...

Currently in production and flying the flag for cream of the crop independent horror is Simeon Halligan's White Settlers, starring genre fave Pollyanna Mcintosh – with whom most of you are more than likely familiar due to her spectacular performance in the titular role in Lucky Mckee's The Woman.
Also starring fellow up-and-coming British talent Lee Williams ("The Tudors") and produced by the people behind Manchester horror festival Grimmfest, not to mention penned by BAFTA nominated writer Ian Fenton, White Settlers looks like it could be the much awaited breath of life that British horror needs.
While working on set, Pollyanna was gracious enough to take some time to speak with us between takes and let us all know what horrors lie in store in this tale of a young couple trying for an idyllic life in the country that soon find themselves besieged by unspeakable terrors...

Finally, a new Don Coscarelli movie! After years of waiting, the cult auteur comes back with a lively adaptation of David Wong’s popular novel. A drug that induces an out-of-body experience sends its users across time and other dimensions. When some of them come back not quite human, an otherworldly invasion is set into motion. Suddenly, college dropouts John (Rob Mayes) and Dave (Chase Williamson) find themselves in an epic battle to save the world. Coscarelli’s surreal visual flair and black comic bent are in full effect here. Hopefully, its critical success will ensure that the beloved filmmaker won't have to wait another ten years to make a film.
