Namakula is a NYC based artist born to a quirky, Ugandan, Economics professor father and a feisty, omnipotent Jamaican mother. For myriad years, she's experienced a uniquely diverse and robust career as an actor, writer, video editor and producer. She's worked throughout the US and abroad, particularly Spain, which for many years, she considered (Barcelona) to be her second home.
As an actor, Namakula's performed in theatre, short films, TV, webseries, commercials, voice over and stand up comedy. Her offbeat humor has landed her comedic roles on Conan O'Brien, a kooky "Broad City" promo (with Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson) and recently a funny CDC webisode with Amber Ruffin. She's worked with many groundbreaking directors such as: Nzingha Stewart, Charles Stone III, David Shane, and legendary Joe Pytka. She's also been the VOICE of big brands like: Maybelline, McDonald's, Clinique and Smirnoff.
Notably, she was the VOICE of REI's "Force of Nature" campaign: WINNER of the Cannes Bronze Glass Lion (2018). And was cast as Understudy (2 tracks: Beverly & Jasmine) in Soho Rep's "Fariview", the 2019 Pulitzer Prize winning play (Drama), by Jackie Sibblies-Drury. https://www.namakula.com
As a writer, Namakula's been penning and performing (mainly dark comedy) for years. Her spec sitcom scripts were shopped by Brillstein Grey, whilst she was honing her skills on the NYC stand up comedy circuit. As a result, her irreverent comedy reel garnered her a pitch meeting with the producers of MAD TV. She later went onto write, direct and co-star in her original dark comedy webseries, "Kate & Kula".
As an editor, Namakula was trained under and worked alongside top talents, including veteran editors: Barry Alexander Brown, Rick Russell and Kirk Baxter, in addition to iconic talents such as: Spike Lee, John Leguizamo, Sophie Muller and Bob Giraldi. In her vast editorial career, she's crafted commercials, long format projects (art, documentary and music), short films and web content for major clients such as; Amex, Coca Cola, Wendy's and The MoMA. https://www.namakulaeditor.com
As a producer, Namakula's created her own work while also facilitating other artists' projects. Some include: producer of the multi-award winning fashion film, "Proclamation Punctuation", the international webseries "The Groom" and field researcher / documentarian on the PBS/RadicalMedia's, "American Portrait" project. In Spring 2021, she embarked on a poetry narration collaboration as VO talent and co-executive producer of the audio series, "The Feisty Beast", with poet, Moe Phillips.
When she's not in the thick of creating, Namakula enjoys lucid dreaming amongst the trees, exploring new lands and playing / composing dark tunes on the electric bass.
Namakula is a member of WGAE and SAG-AFTRA and repped for O/C commercial by CESD Talent Agency (NY) and for VO by KMR Talent Agency.
