After arriving in Hollywood, one of her first jobs was as one of the body-painted bikini-clad dancers on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (1967).
Because her parents wanted her to become a teacher, she attended Xavier University in New Orleans but quit after three years and went to the Goodman School of Theater in Chicago.
Her father was a Cherokee Indian and her mother was Creole from Louisiana.
