Kipras Masanauskas is an acclaimed Lithuanian composer and music supervisor, as well as a co-founder of UP Records, the leading full service sound post-production studio in the Baltic States.
At the age of 18, Kipras sparked his fame and respect as a musician and composer when entered a Lithuanian variety music competition. As a result Kipras was awarded Best Song of the Year for his composition of "Lithuania". However, the song went far beyond the intended competition and became popular with Lithuanians of all ages who adopted it as an anthem of independence. Today the song is still considered one the most meaningful works of Lithuanian music.
Throughout his career Kipras has been devoted to explore and master various genres and styles of music, from electro-acoustic to symphonic to folk. Because of that passion and curiosity he has become known for his exceptional skill and artistry of blending conventional and non-conventional instruments in his compositions and orchestrations, as well as extricate, sensory sound designs. In addition to being an accomplished, sought after composer, Kipras is an exceptional audio engineer and keen sound designer who has a gift to perfectly detect and utilize the musical tones of ambient sounds that often accent his compositions. In 1998 he released the first Dolby surround musical CD in the Baltic States, making him the pioneer of surround sound for film and stage in the region .
As an established film composer Kipras has provided distinguished, memorable soundtracks for over 50 titles including features, short subjects, documentaries, and animations. However, in recent years, his continuing desire to pursue musical challenges and stretch the creativity of conventional genres, Kipras has been in demand as a key collaborator on theatrical stage productions. In particular, "The Legend of Zygimantas Augustas and Barbora Radvilaite" and "Mindaugas, The King", two large scale musicals that had national tours and received international acclaim.
In addition to countless film and stage awards, Kipras has been commissioned for international celebrations. Including the opening ceremony in Vilnius, Lithuania of the 2013 Presidency of the Council of the EU for which Kipras composed "The Linkup". The elegantly, spirited composition included a children's choir, adult choir, symphony orchestra, and the coordinated accompaniment of percussionists from over 20 other countries performing in the ceremony from their homelands, via multi-media telecommunications.
