Kevin Manser(1929-2001)
- Actor
Kevin Manser was born in Adelaide, South Australia. At age 28 he left
his job with the government utility Engineering and Water Supply (on
six months at half pay initially) to seek his fortune as an actor in
London. Initially finding work as a stage manager, he was cast in a
number of theatre productions, then television work. He was cast as one
of the original Daleks in the television show Doctor Who, and spent the
rest of the '60s acting in television productions and adverts, in
occasional films, as a swimming coach, and on annual holidays in Europe
and Asia. He returned to Australia in 1969, settling in Sydney, and
continued this pattern. In 1986 he discovered/was discovered by
Australian Doctor Who fandom and became a favourite at conventions. In
February 2000, Kevin was diagnosed with cancer, and subsequently wrote
his autobiography The Memoirs of a Dalek.
