- Suffered a major injury to his lower back in 1992, which caused Animal to cease wrestling until he had recovered.
- In his autobiography, Animal recalled the days when he and Hawk began their training in wrestling. The gym where they trained, was in a basement in a run down building. The ring they used, was partly pushed up against the wall and many injuries resulted. Animal said that to this day, he still has chipped bone in one of his elbows, after being thrown against the brick wall whilst in the ring.
