One of the most anticipated web series on AOL's 2014 original content slate has arrived. AOL On is now home to the first four episodes of Steve Buscemi's Park Bench. Park Bench follows Buscemi as he wheels a roving park bench around New York City and holds candid conversations with his actor and comedian friends. This premise is reminiscent of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, which also features a well-known actor as he cruises about town while shooting the bull with famous people. Chris Rock, one of the guest stars in the first episode of Park Bench, even lampshades the series' similarity to existing shows. "That's what the world needs, another talk show," he quips. "Just dying for another talk show." In execution, though, Park Bench succeeds in setting itself apart. Buscemi describes it as a talking show, and the first episode mixes in scripted bits with each episode's central conversation.

History has already shown that the nonstop party of the Roaring Twenties couldn't go on forever, so neither could Boardwalk Empire. On Thursday, HBO announced that it was shutting down its homage to the Prohibition-era Atlantic City playground, making this fall's fifth season its last. As someone who has covered Boardwalk for Rolling Stone for the majority of its run, news of this decision was bittersweet. Sure, it's always difficult to say goodbye to a series in which you've invested so much time, energy, love and, let's be honest, aggravation.

Last year, viewership for HBO's Boardwalk Empire started to dwindle. Will the ratings continue to fall in season four or will they rise instead? We'll have to wait and see how things go.

‘When you see your kids remember they didn’t cost you anything’. He might have a tendency towards the sentimental, but Richard can’t half make a point when he wants to. He had, quite literally, a captive audience, but his statement about money stands. It’s a lesson that most of his fellow characters have yet to heed. It’s a natural result of the focus on gangsters, politicians and wannabes (sometimes all three in the same person) that money is the first thing reached for to fix things. It is, in so many cases, wholly inadequate. Perhaps they’d benefit from having their fingers trapped in a drawer for a bit.

The new season of Boardwalk Empire is right around the corner (Sunday, Sept. 8th – 9:00 p.m. Et/Pt), and this could be the season that really sends the show skyrocketing. That means you want to be sure that you’re caught up and/or have your recollection refreshed and ready, and/or binge your way through the first three seasons so you know what everyone is talking about.

Not only is Nucky kicking off in a rough spot that he’s going to have to get out of, but Chalky is in for some trouble (and thus, presumably more screen time), and there are some great new characters and cast members showing up, including Patricia Arquette as a Florida speakeasy owner.

Boardwalk Empire...

Ben Affleck's "Argo" continues its march as the Oscar front-runner this awards season. Yesterday, the film was the big winner at the 2013 Producers Guild Awards, and tonight, it won the big prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards taking home the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture trophy.

As predicted, Daniel Day-Lewis won the Lead Actor award for "Lincoln" while Jennifer Lawrence won the Lead Actress award for "Silver Linings Playbook."

Tommy Lee Jones won the Best Supporting Actor award for "Lincoln," and my fave, the lovely Anne Hathaway won the Best Supporting Actress award for "Les Miserables."

In the television category, "Downton Abbey" won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series and "Modern Family" took home the Comedy Series award.

My faith in Boardwalk Empire has been restored. Last week I was on the verge of abandoning the show thanks to the writers deciding to kill off Owen. It flew in the face of expectation and the storylines they had been setting up for his character, but somehow Owen’s untimely demise was the last thing on my mind watching tonight’s episode.

Things kicked off with a bang in a shootout in Nucky’s hotel suite in a tense gun battle that sees him dispatching three of Gyp’s goons with a shotgun. Right from the word go the tension was high enough to cut and the momentum didn’t let up throughout.

With Owen dead and Margaret apparently fled, Nucky is well truly on the ropes without a single friend, except the one everybody always forgets. Eddie Kessler, what a champ. It...

Once upon a time television was where people who used to be in the movies went to die. I’m not qualified to pinpoint the exact moment where that all changed, but it definitely has. Arguably American cable channel HBO has trumped the movies, wedding the slick production values and top talent of Hollywood with a format that allows for vastly extended running times. This has enabled complex and incredibly dense dramas (like The Wire, Deadwood and now Michael Mann’s Luck) to flourish, telling stories that just wouldn’t fit comfortably into two hours – aimed at a mature audience driven from the multiplex. Martin Scorsese – director of the pilot episode of the phenomenal Boardwalk Empire – has likened this elongated form to the novel, effectively positioning movies as short stories by comparison.

The Screen Actors Guild has announced their list of nominations for the best performances of 2011. I have to point out that I'm surprised Tom Hardy and Joel Edgarton weren't nominated for their roles in Warrior, because they were pretty damn awesome in that film. I think they deserved a nom more than Leonardo DiCaprio. I'm a huge fan of DiCaprio but his performance in J. Edgar wasn't his best. Brad Pitt will end up taking home the award for Moneyball though. It was great to see Bridesmaids and The Help get a nomination for best ensemble cast. It will be interesting to see who takes home the award on this list, and how many of them will make their way to the Oscars.

Nominations for the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are in, and Emma Stone is leading the way. Her summer sleeper hit, "The Help," nabbed the most movie nominations with four, followed by Oscar-fav "The Artist" with three and a handful of others with two ("Bridesmaids," "The Descendants," "Moneyball").

On the television side of things, "Modern Family" soared to the top of the pack with five nods, while "30 Rock" and "Dexter" each garnered two. HBO reeled in the most total noms with 11.

Meryl Streep was among the nominees when the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations were announced this morning.

Streep was nominated for her role in “The Iron Lady,” a biopic about British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

“The Help” was one of the leading candidates with the film’s actors getting a nod for outstanding cast; “The Help” stars Viola Davis (leading role) and Octavia Spencer (supporting role) were also tapped for individual nominations.

Boardwalk Empire seems to have polarized audiences and critics alike. While the first season managed plenty of viewers, and a load of award nominations, it doesn't seem to have become the next big thing everyone is talking about, and it looks like there is just as much talk about it being rather... "meh."

I write a lot of the negatives off to genre bias, because I find it difficult to make sense of them otherwise. Frankly, it's pretty understandable to a degree. It's not a show for everyone. Not only is it in some mob/corruption genre, it's also period, and possibly not everyone's favorite period. Beyond that, it's often just plain weird.

The 17th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards belonged to Tom Hooper's "The King's Speech," now the frontrunner of the 2011 Oscar race. Last night, the Directors Guild crowned Hooper as the Best Director of 2010, tonight the Screen Actors Guild blessed "The King's Speech."

The drama about King George VI (Colin Firth) and how he overcomes his speech impediment to unite his country was given the Best Film Ensemble at the 2011 Sag Awards. Firth also received the Best Actor trophy.

Natalie Portman continues her awards momentum by winning the Best Actress trophy for "Black Swan." David O. Russell's "The Fighter" yielded Best Supporting trophies for Christian Bale for Supporting Actor and Melissa Leo for Supporting Actress.

I wasn’t planning on doing an all nighter but here I am after watching the red carpet arrivals of the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) raring to go! The talent that has turned up is pretty impressive with Natalie Portman, Jeff Bridges, James Franco, Nicole Kidman, Andrew Garfield, Helena Bonham and many many more.

Today the nominations for the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was released. The King’s Speech and The Fighter received the most nominations, with four each. Thankfully the Guild seems to know what they are doing unlike The Golden Globes who pretty much screwed up all the nominations.

The nominees here are usually a very strong indication of how the acting award nominees will play out at the Oscars. King’s Speech has long been an Oscar favourite, but David O. Russell’s The Fighter has gained considerable steam in the past few weeks. Last year, 19 out of 20 SAG nominees went to the Oscars as well so you can be sure that The Fighter and King’s Speech will get a best picture nomination. David O. Russell's "The Fighter" and Tom Hooper's "The King's Speech" dominated the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations. Both films receive 4 nods each with "The Fighter" receiving nominations for Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Melissa Leo in the supporting categories. But, the film's lead star, Mark Wahlberg, was not nominated.

For "The King's Speech," Colin Firth was nominated for male lead, while Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter received noms for their supporting roles.

Ernest Borgnine will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Screen Acors Guild has released their award nominations for their upcoming 17th annual award ceremony, which will take place on January 30, 2011.

There are some great nominations here. My favorite picks include Christian Bale for his role in The Fighter, Natalie Portman in her role in Black Swan, and Jesse Eisenberg for his role in The Social Network. As much as I love most of these films, I'm surprised that Inception is no where to be seen. That was one of the best films of the year and it seems to be escaping a lot of the nominations in all the award ceremonies this year.

Okay, totally kidding about the Colfer Lifetime Achievement Award thing - that will be going to Ernest Borgnine. But does it seem to you that the kid who plays Kurt Hummel is getting an awful lot of awards season love? (And wouldn't McHale's Navy have been so much better with him in it?)

The latest outpouring of Colfer acclaim comes from the Screen Actors Guild who announced their 17th annual SAG nominees this morning.

The Glee cast is up for a comedy ensemble award, but Colfer was the only cast member other than Jane Lynch to be recognized individually. And given who he's up against he's almost certain to be the frontrunner!

Another bit of good news for a Glbt favorite, The Kids Are All Right, scored individual acting nods for Annete Bening, Mark Rufallo, and also a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.

Nothing really to highlight here, unfortunately. SAG voters apparently didn’t care for Halle Berry’s performance as much as the Golden Globes did, because she’s not on this list. And neither is Idris Elba, who was also nominated for a Golden Globe. The cast of For Colored Girls got no love either.

The significance here is that SAG nominees and winners are voted on by members of the union – essentially, their peers.

But one thing that should be obvious by now is that the Oscar race is going to come down to 4 films and the performances in those films: The Social Network, Black Swan, The King’s Speech, and The Fighter. I still have to see the last 2.
