America-born actor of the London stage and British cinema during the
50s who formerly taught school. Later focused strictly on theater
work.
Recently retired as artistic director of the Illinois Repertory Theater, in collaboration with his director/actress/wife Wendy McClure, after a 21-year partnership with the University of Illinois. (1997)
