It's not unusual for the movies to come out of manga and anime series to feel a little off. The stories are often non-canon or otherwise abridged adaptations of ongoing story arcs, and the best thing you can hope for as a viewer is that a given movie captures some hint of what you enjoy about the series. While the movies may not hit the heights of the series, they can still deliver excellent character moments and action.
Whether or not the "Naruto" films deliver on that is up for debate. As the manga and anime series focused on the growth and development of its title character, a young ninja in a fantasy world on the path to glory, the movies give him and some of his coterie of allies non-canonical missions on which they can prove their mettle. For a series weighed down with a large number of "filler...

When Luke Skywalker showed up on “The Mandalorian,” it certainly looked a lot like the Jedi we know and love. And we’d recognize Mark Hamill’s voice a mile away. But the actual in-the-flesh actor was Max Lloyd-Jones. Let us introduce you.
Although the London-born thespian isn’t a household name, he has a pretty solid resume, including “Adventures in Baby-Sitting,” “The Sandlot,” “iZombie,” “Switched at Birth” and “Project Blue Book.” And perhaps most interestingly, he’s credited for the role of Blue Eyes, a.k.a. the chimpanzee in “War for the Planet of the Apes.” That’s a pretty high-profile CGI-based role, so it makes sense as to why Lucasfilm might have turned to him to do some CGI acting for one of their most famous Jedis.

You may not know this, but Jim Carrey kinda went completely insane when he was playing Andy Kaufman in the biopic Man Made Moon. Jim Carrey pretty much became Andy Kaufman in every way when he was making the movie and even when cameras weren't rolling, he was still going all out Kaufman. It was so bad and the studio was so embarrassed by his behavior that they never wanted to the on-set footage to be released.
Well, we have a very entertaining trailer for an upcoming documentary called Jim and Andy: The Great Beyond – With a Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton. The film focuses on Carrey's madness during the shoot and the actor himself even talks about his experience shooting the film as he examines the behind the scenes footage of himself inhabiting the role of Kaufman for the first time. During Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond, Jim Carrey speaks about a time when he stood in front of the paparazzi-flocked Los Angeles restaurant The Ivy, paused and said nothing. The photogs, unaccustomed to a celebrity acting so nonchalantly in front of their flashing bulbs, didn't know how to react, Carrey recalled. So when the actor walked onto the stage after a New York screening of the Chris Smith documentary and stood still, staring out into the crowd somewhat awkwardly after they took their seats from a standing ovation, it seemed like the actor was once again testing his audience.

If “The Truman Show” showed that Jim Carrey was more than just a rubber-faced comedian, it was “Man On The Moon” that displayed the extent of his gifts. The actor committed deeply to playing legendary comic Andy Kaufman and his alter ego, Tony Clifton, never breaking character while on set, which led to some baffling moments for his co-stars. Now, Carrey has provided reams of his behind-the-scenes footage which has helped shape the documentary, “Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond – Featuring a Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton.”
Produced by Spike Jonze, the film looks at Carrey’s work in the movie, with the actor sharing insights about his experience making “Man on The Moon.” Here’s the official synopsis:

"It's like a job now," confesses cinema's goofiest serial killer, Josef. Mark Duplass returns to both the wolf-mask and uncomfortable sharing shenanigans that define his character's comedy. He is trying to articulate the feeling that happens when the initial thrill of doing something you love turns into simple obligation. It is one of the ways in which director Patrick Brice addresses just how ludicrous a follow up to the original Creep would be, based on the fact that the audience, at this point, knows 'everything.' The 2015 film (not to be confused with Chris Smith's 2004 London metro creature feature of the same name) relied almost entirely on the tension of whether or not the on-camera inside the film performance of a weirdo-narcissist-loner Josef was...

Jim Carrey and Spike Jonze seem like such a perfect fit together that it’s amazing that it’s taken this long for them to work together. Carrey’s the comic genius with a serious side that verges on the provocative at times, Jonze is the acclaimed, inventive auteur who enjoys pranks as much as he enjoys making awards-friendly movies, and clearly they share a facility for Charlie Kaufman, with Carrey having starred in “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind,” and Jonze directing “Being John Malkovich” and “Adaptation.”

What is it? Two old college friends cross paths as adults and beat the ever-loving crap out of each other.
Why see it? Onur Tukel’s latest is also his best thanks in part to the lead performances by Sandra Oh and Anne Heche. They do a good job of manipulating our sympathies and concerns ensuring that our loyalties shift from act to act. Themes of female friendships, class distinctions, and redemption run through alongside a satirical look at modern life, and there’s a terrifically wicked streak throughout. Funny, smart, and brutal are all apt descriptors for this cynical look at our violent selves.

It’s been 20 years since the release of Mark Borchardt’s independent horror classic Coven—and 18 years since the release of Chris Smith’s excellent American Movie documentary that chronicled the making of that film—and now Borchardt has finally returned with a trailer for his next movie, a documentary about a UFO festival in a small town in Wisconsin. Titled The Dundee Project, the YouTube description explains that the film will feature interviews with “eccentric locals” as they prepare for an annual celebration that’s “equal parts sky watching and heavy drinking.” Plus, the trailer is narrated by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, who is probably one of the few Wisconsin artists who is almost as famous as Mark Borchardt is—at least among the cool people who read The A.V. Club.

The idea of finding happiness in platonic friendship rather than romantic love isn’t exactly a new concept. But what makes “I Love Bekka & Lucy” feel fresh (and addictively fun) is that no matter how deeply series’ writer and director Rachael Holder deconstructs the argument, love never leaves the equation. You feel it in every scene, in complex, ever-evolving shades, and thus we learn along with Bekka and Lucy whether or not the proposed lifestyle would or wouldn’t work — for them and for the rest of us.
Everyone, at some point in their life, dreams of living the rest of their days with their best friend, free from the drama, frustrations, and various other forms of emotional turmoil associated with falling in love. Sometimes there’s even times when these desires coincide, and for a few precious months or years, domestic life is nothing but a comfort.

Closet Monster (Stephen Dunn)
Writer/director Stephen Dunn’s feature debut Closet Monster cares little about convention to tell the story of Oscar Madly (Connor Jessup) growing up with a psychological revulsion to his sexual urges, all thanks to an extremely disturbing event witnessed as a child. This prologue glimpse at his youth (played by Jack Fulton) is a mash-up of tough coming-of-age-dramatics and a dark-edged imaginative whimsy that intrigues to draw you closer.

From Flushed Away and Hunchback to Titan A.E. and Sky High - the family movies that don't get the love they deserve...
When I sit through a film such as Zootropolis, Rango, Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph, Eddie The Eagle or Coraline, I can’t help but be thankful somebody has bothered. As a parent as well as a movie lover, I’ve grown to really dislike family movies that just turn up to act as a surrogate babysitter for 90 minutes, with no intention of becoming anybody’s favourite film. The films I'm going to talk about are the family movies therefore that I think both try and do something a bit more, yet continue to fly under many people's radar.
A bonus mention before we get going, and number 26 in the list, much to my surprise: Alvin & The Chipmunks 4. I was expecting next to zero from it, courtesy...
