“You see, I’ve always wanted a little girl.”
School’s out for the summer and it’s time to roll up our sleeping bags, forge our physicals, put on our camp shirts, and head out to the woods. Sleepaway camp is often the first significant time kids spend outside of their homes and can be an opportunity to build independence and a sense of self-worth. At a normal camp, that is. Camp Arawak may just be the worst case scenario. In addition to horrific bullies and creepy cooks, there’s a killer lurking among the canoes and cabins. Someone is murdering counselors and campers alike and no one knows who will be next.
Angela (Felissa Rose) is a quiet girl headed to camp with only her cousin Ricky (Jonathan Tiersten) to protect her. And it’s a good thing he’s there. Counselor Meg (Katherine Kamhi) and mean girl...

Written and directed by Robert Hiltzik, Sleepaway Camp has the following synopsis:

The irony of Bob Clark's 1983 film "A Christmas Story" was that it was initially intended to be a satire, a wicked deconstruction of the placid, false, Normal Rockwell-ian idyll of 1950s Americana. Christmastime was not a time of peace and ease in "A Christmas Story," but a bitter world of selfishness, childhood greed, bullying, and disappointment. Over the years, "A Christmas Story" grew in estimation to such a degree that it now is run in Holiday-season 24-hour marathons on certain cable TV stations. What was once meant to dismantle nostalgia is now just a new generation's nostalgia.
The film was adapted to a stage musical in 2009, which was, in turn, broadcast on live TV in 2017. Some who pay close attention will also have noted that 2012 saw the release of the straight-to-video "A Christmas Story 2," with actor Braeden Lemasters playing a teenage version of Ralphie, the star of the first film,...

The weather may be getting colder outside, but that doesn't mean horror fans can't have summer camp on their minds. And when it comes to summer camp horror movies, if you treasure the Sleepaway Camp franchise alongside the likes of Friday the 13th and The Burning, then you're in for a real treat, because a new documentary on the Sleepaway Camp movies is in development, with Angela herself, Felissa Rose, on board as an executive producer.
Bloody Disgusting exclusively shared the news that Angela: The Official Sleepaway Camp Documentary is "in the works" at Michael Perez Entertainment.
Expected to be four hours long, Angela: The Official Sleepaway Camp Documentary will look at the making of the four finished films in the franchise: Sleepaway Camp, Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers, Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland, and Return to Sleepaway Camp (there's no word yet if the unfinished Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor...

If there was one horror movie growing up that was my favorite to show friends at a slumber party, it had to be Robert Hiltzik’s cult classic shocker Sleepaway Camp, which proved that eighties slashers weren’t always a dime a dozen. Scream Factory brings this often overlooked gem home to Blu-ray with a stunning transfer and presentation that would certainly live up to Aunt Martha’s high standards.
The story of Sleepaway Camp is pretty much everything you’d expect from a slasher movie and nothing you’d ever expect, which is what makes Hiltzik’s campy and disturbing summer camp tale still one of the more memorable horror movies I’ve seen. It follows a traumatized teenager, named Angela (Felissa Rose), who witnessed her entire family gruesomely killed after a tragic boating accident. She’s been living with those haunting events for the last eight years as...

With Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson’s All Cheerleaders Die arriving on VOD this week, I thought this would be the perfect time to celebrate some of my very favorite “mean girls” of the horror genre. And while I do love our beloved heroines as much as the next genre fan, there’s just something really fun about watching powerful women flaunt their cruelty and penchant for torturing others every now and again.
Check out my Favorite Mean Girls of Horror picks below and see if any of your favorite vengeful vixens made the list! Caution: Some of these may be a bit spoilery for the uninitiated!
Nancy Downs (Fairuza Balk)- The Craft
While she may have grown up a total darling in films like Return to Oz and The Worst Witch, Fairuza Balk was the true epitome of a nineties mean girl in The Craft. Her character, Nancy Downs,...

Cheerleader Camp Over the years there has been plenty of annoying horror film characters for various reasons. You had Katherine Kamhi in Sleepaway Camp. She played such a good something that rhymes with witch that you would think she was one in real life. So when she got hers in Sleepaway Camp, it was well deserved! And wouldn't you be tempted to knock off someone that treated you like that? Or how about Giallo from Dario Argento. That woman, who was being held hostage, had so many opportunities to escape and get away, that she eventually became downright annoying. So much so that I would knock her off myself and end the pain that viewers sitting through that film had to endure. So c'mon, admit it, there's definitely been a character you wish you could go knock off yourself. That special someone you was rooting against. My pick goes to.

Can it be true? Is the final Saw really upon us? Hard to believe James Wan’s little indie nasty resonated with audiences six years back in a way large enough to spawn six freakin’ sequels. And what’s more surprising is that Jigsaw waited until the very end of his October reign to cash in on the trendy 3D craze that’s been putting the hurt on our wallets the last few years.
With Saw 3D’s release quickly approaching, there’s perhaps no better time to reflect on the genre’s most successful (or, in some cases, most baffling) forays into all three dimensions. Of course we’re going to cover all of the mainstays, but this list wouldn’t be worth much if we didn’t pull the curtain back on some of the truly bizarre offerings that somehow found their way to dimly lit screens all over the world.
