Director George Miller decided to continue the Mad Max franchise with the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga… but to tell the story, he had to recast the role of Furiosa. While the character was played by Charlize Theron, who wanted to return for Furiosa, in Fury Road, Miller felt de-aging technology isn’t convincing enough just yet for Theron to play a much younger version of the character, so he cast Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead role for Furiosa. Theron has said that being left out of Furiosa was “a little heartbreaking” – but that hasn’t kept her from seeing or praising the finished film.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Theron confirmed that she has seen Furiosa and, “It’s amazing, it’s a beautiful film.“

Unfortunately, Theron and Taylor-Joy still haven’t had an opportunity to meet up and discuss their experiences playing the same character.

George Miller, the director of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, is revisiting the on-set drama between Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy in his 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road.

In a new interview, Miller recalled the feud between the stars during the film’s production, which resulted from Hardy’s tardiness.

“They were just two very different performers,” Miller told The Telegraph. “Tom has a damage to him but also a brilliance that comes with it, and whatever was going on with him at the time, he had to be coaxed out of his trailer. Whereas Charlize was incredibly disciplined – a dancer by training, which told in the precision of her performance – and always the first one on set.”

Miller noted that things on the set gradually got better, adding, “I’m an optimist, so I saw their behavior as mirroring their characters, where they had to learn to cooperate in order to ensure mutual survival.

My knee-jerk reaction to the CGI-enhanced War Boy is one of apprehension. How large of a role does this character play in the film, and will their cartoonishness offset an otherwise incredible-looking film? I hope not. One of the more thrilling elements of Miller’s Mad Max series is the visual spectacle, and I worry the CGI-enhanced War Boy could be an “arrow to the knee.” I could be entirely off base, and I’m simply being paranoid for no good reason.

We all know that George Miller is a visionary director and his Mad Max series is a legacy that many generations to come will enjoy. This year, a spin-off from the main series, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, will be released as the most recent installment in the saga. The movie will premiere on May 23, 2024 in theaters around the world and will focus on the background story of the character of Imperator Furiosa, first introduced in the Mad Max: Fury Road movie starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, with the latter portraying an adult version of Furiosa.

Now, Miller is known for meticulously crafting his movies, but a recent revelation related to the filming of the movie shows just how dedicated Miller is, it has been confirmed that there is an action sequence in the movie that took the cast and crew a total of 78 days to shoot! Apparently, there’s a 15-minute scene in “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” that took more than 75 days to film and hundreds of stunt people to pull off.

“[‘Furiosa’] has one 15-minute sequence which took us 78 days to shoot” producer Doug Mitchell revealed in an interview with Total Film about the film, which is set to land in theaters on May 24. The production named the sequence “Stairway to Nowhere.”

“George [Miller] and I would have these big conversations about why this particular set-piece was so long,” actress Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays a younger version of Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa in the film, agreed. The short scene not only took a hefty amount of days to shoot, it also required over 200 stunt people.

Taylor-Joy said the scene provides viewers with a detailed and visual explanation of how talented, knowledgeable and clever Furiosa is in battle-mode.

Director George Miller is continuing the Mad Max franchise with the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which is set to reach theatres on May 24th – and with that date just over a month away, the film got some promotion during the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and George Miller took the stage during the Warner Bros. panel. Miller told the eager CinemaCon crowd that Furiosa takes place over 18 years, whereas Fury Road’s story lasted three days. Miller then quipped that if the apocalypse actually happened, Anya would be the one he’d want to hang out with as she has the rigor and commitment.

Speaking about Hemsworth, Miller said he couldn’t think of anyone to play Dementus, and he’d had the script for a long time.

If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, then Lucid Dream Studios’s Biomorph is extremely flattering. Visually, the game is above reproach, as its cartoonish art style potently captures the strikingly different biomes of Ilios and the freakish ways in which the processing of oil-like ferrox has mutated the planet’s life. But beneath that surface, the game’s nonlinear structure is both mechanically unbalanced and narratively confusing. Ultimately, protagonist Harlo’s ability to harvest the genetic data of his enemies and transform into them at will is more of a novelty than a transformative take on the 2D Metroidvania.

At its best, Biomorph is a fun mashup of Mega Man and Kirby, with Harlo able to equip three different technological attacks and morph into a customizable set of three (of an unlockable 21) creatures. These animals are varied in appearance and, for the most part, functionality, like the spring-jumping Spyrux or dust-warping Sorios.

When director George Miller needed to fill the role of Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road, he turned to actor Hugh Keays-Byrne, who had previously played the villainous Toecutter in the original Mad Max. Sadly, Keays-Byrne passed away in 2020, before Miller could get the prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga into production – so in this movie, which is set to reach theatres on May 24, the role of Immortan Joe is being played by Lachy Hulme. Hulme’s casting in the role was confirmed by Empire, and they also scored a great quote from Hulme about the scope of the film. He told them Furiosa is “David Lean, but with motorbikes instead of camels. When you see 4,000 custom-made motorbikes come over a hill, you shit your pants.“

Given the truly awe-inspiring crashes and bangs director George Miller splashed across the screen in his pop-art masterpiece Mad Max: Fury Road, it’s hardly surprising that his prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, is among our most anticipated films of 2024.

In a new cover feature in the latest Empire magazine, Miller has contrasted his latest post-apocalyptic opus with 2015’s Fury Road. Where Fury Road took place over three days, Miller explained, Furiosa will span 15 years, following the earlier years of Furiosa.

“Fury Road, the story unfolds over three days and two nights,” Miller told Empire (which comes to us via World of Reel). “This film [Furiosa] follows the story that runs directly into Fury Road, for 15 years. It’s a different animal. It’s got many different locations.

Nine years after the release of Mad Max: Fury Road, the Mad Max franchise will be getting a new entry with the May 24, 2024 theatrical release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – a film which isn’t about the Mad Max character, but is actually a Fury Road prequel that focuses on the Furiosa character, who was played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road and is now played by Anya Taylor-Joy.
