Astrid Henning-Jensen was born on 10 December 1914 in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was a director and writer, known for Winterborn (1978), Early Spring (1986) and Øjeblikket (1980). She was married to Bjarne Henning-Jensen. She died on 5 January 2002 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Although the most famous female Danish director, she has never been awarded with the Bodil Award, the most important Danish award in filmmaking.

Her films were often concerned with humanitarian and social issues.

A former stage actress, she started in films as assistant to Danish director Bjarne Henning-Jensen (also her husband) at Nordisk Film in 1941.
