Although the most famous female Danish director, she has never been awarded with the Bodil Award, the most important Danish award in filmmaking.
Member of the jury at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1981
Her films were often concerned with humanitarian and social issues.
A former stage actress, she started in films as assistant to Danish director Bjarne Henning-Jensen (also her husband) at Nordisk Film in 1941.
