There are many many horror movies that centre around a cabin in the woods and unsurprisingly, The Cabin is another that can be added to that list. It’s not a very inventive title but neither was The Cabin In The Woods and that turned out pretty great so I was willing to give this the chance.
Unfortunately The Cabin has a much lower budget to work with so the story isn’t as adventurous as its similarly titled counterpart. What we get is a young couple driving to a cabin in the middle of nowhere to get away from it all. The cabin is owned by the boyfriends family and he has fond memories of weeks away when he was growing up. Sound familiar? That’s because it probably is, you...

Filip Tegstedt's Marianne stretches the definition of a horror movie by quite some way; there's only one recurring supernatural element and it's left very much open to interpretation as to whether the main character is imagining the whole thing, to the point of openly mocking him. Yet it's not really about the scares, more about the tragedy of a man's psyche visibly imploding - the story of someone who did a terrible thing, where it's slowly revealed to us just how terrible, and how much worse he makes the situation by trying to put everything right without thinking about it first.Krister (Tomas Hedengran) is a teacher living in a quiet Swedish suburb, painstakingly trying to put his life back together after it's taken a particularly...

I was pretty excited after seeing the teaser trailer for Filip Tegstedt’s upcoming horror film Marianne and considering the amount of attention the trailer received, I wasn’t alone in my excitement.
The first teaser for the film, which stars Thomas Hedengran and Peter Stormare, was beautiful and creepy and this second teaser follows a very similar set-up, using images and music to build tension. The images here are even odder than the first but you definitely get the feeling that something is amiss.
If you missed the first teaser, be sure to check it out here. The new teaser is after the break.

For his debut as writer/director, Filip Tegstedt chose to make a psychological horror movie because “there really haven’t been that many good Swedish horror films” and really, good horror films are generally hard to find anywhere never mind limiting that to Sweden.
So for his first, Tegstedt rounded up some familiar faces and set off to shoot Marianne, a small town psychological horror drama set in Östersund with roots in Swedish folklore which “tells of a man’s struggle to deal with his inner conflicts following the passing of his wife.”
I was already curious about this production and then I read that the film stars the formidable Peter Stormare (one of my favourites) and Thomas Hedengran. I didn’t need any additional information to add this to my watch list but it helps a great deal that the trailer is gorgeous and effective on creep factor.
