Nikolay Gubenko is a Soviet and Russian theater and film actor, film director and screenwriter.
Founder, artistic director of the "Commonwealth of Taganka Actors" theater from 1992 to 2020. People's Artist of the RSFSR (1985). The last Minister of Culture of the USSR from 1989 to 1991. Deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the II and III convocations (1995-2003).
He made his film debut with a role in the film "Zastava Ilyicha", released in 1964. The first acting success came after the leading role in the graduation performance "The Career of Arthur Wee" by Brecht. In 1970 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK, shot six full-length feature films and one short.
