Ramón Garay(1896-1956)

An endearing familiar face from the Golden Years of Argentine Cinema,
this stocky character actor has one unique distinction to add to his
talent. While under contract with the Argentina Sono Film studio, he
portrayed a fictional, humorous detective and private investigator in
different, unrelated films. They mostly starred Lolita Torres, such as
"La mejor del colegio", "Mas pobre que una laucha" and "Un novio para
Laura". But in these films Ms. Torres played different characters. Only
his was the same: Detective Saporiti. He had a trademark phrase,
"Saporiti nunca se equivoca" ("Saporiti is never wrong!"), which became
part of the culture of the time and also for years to come. He is
fondly remembered.
