- [on designing "The Final Programme", 1973]: I decided that the only way to do the sets was to build huge, reusable building blocks. In one scene, one of these blocks might be used as a wall and then, in the next, it might be the ceiling. We made them thirty to forty feet wide, they were huge. We used them over and over again throughout the film. There were six main pieces. Another way in which I saved money was to make sets very simple. For instance, there is a scene when Jon Finch is in the hospital. All there was for that set was a bed and a door. The viewer assumes the rest is there. It is surprising what little is needed.
