Hallmark stars Ashley Williams and Nikki DeLoach hosted the seventh annual Dance Party to End Alz: Halloween Edition on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Avalon in Hollywood, which raised $250,000 and counting for the Alzheimer's Association research grant program.

The event founded by Kimberly Williams-Paisley was emceed by Jonathan Bennett and Melissa Peterman.

Williams and DeLoach opened the evening with a surprise performance of “Thriller.” The duo welcomed guests and shared why co-hosting the event meant so much to them after both losing a parent to dementia. Williams’ mom, Linda, passed away with Alzheimer’s in 2016, and DeLoach’s dad, David, passed away with Pick’s disease, a rare form of dementia, in 2021.

Dressed in a variety of Halloween costumes, performers took to the stage covering their favorite hits. Accompanied by house band Casual Encounters, performances included:

Richard Osman may be turning his hit novel The Thursday Murder Club into a Netflix feature, but it has not stopped him from roasting the streamer’s chief executive.

During a jolly curtain closer at the Rts London Convention, Osman and his The Rest Is Entertainment podcast co-host Marina Hyde, cast a satirical eye over the day’s speakers.

Osman poked fun at comments made by Ted Sarandos during his opening keynote, in which the Netflix co-ceo shared the secrets of streaming success to an audience of British television luminaries.

Sarandos added that “there’s no reason we couldn’t take 25%” audience share in the UK, which would more than double Netflix’s current viewership of 10%.

Amblin is producing the adaptation of Osman’s bestselling series of murder mystery novels, and the project has assembled a stacked cast.

Spielberg and Osman were pictured with Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, who star as friends in a retirement home who gather to solve murders for fun, but find themselves caught in a real case.

Watch out Knives Out 3! Another Netflix murder mystery film, The Thursday Murder Club, is in the works from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and Netflix, based on a book by BBC game show host and British TV presenter Richard Osman.

The cast was stacked from the start, and production on the film was set to start in June of 2024. Osman confirmed the news of the film’s development on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment in April 2024.

Hailing from writer-director Columbus and backed by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, there's some serious creative firepower behind Netflix's take on Osman's tale of crime-solving pensioners caught up in a real high-stakes murder mystery. As has already been confirmed, The Thursday Murder Club's central quartet consists of Helen Mirren's ex-spy Elizabeth, Pierce Brosnan's former union man Ron, Ben Kingsley's retired psychiatrist Ibrahim, and Celia Imrie's kindly former nurse Joyce.

Whether The Thursday Murder Club turns out to be good, bad or indifferent, there’s no doubting the strength of its cast. Cold War thriller “Whispers of Freedom” has set its principal cast, Variety has learned. “Masters of the Air” alum Cameron Ashplant will play the film’s lead, young East German Chris Gueffroy, while Darragh Cowley (who also appeared in “Masters of the Air”) co-stars as his close friend Christian Gaudian.

Set in 1980s East Germany, the film is written and directed by Brandon Ashplant. It follows Chris and Christian as they try to escape the isolated Eastern bloc state. Wendy Makkena (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”) joins as Chris’s mother Karin and Paul Freeman (“Raiders of the Lost Ark”) as East German leader Erich Honecker. Wolf Kahler (“The Great Escaper”) joins in a supporting role as Bruno Kabát.

“Whispers of Freedom” goes into production next month. It is produced by Jonathan Tammuz and Golden Goat Films.

The artist lineup for the sixth annual 2000s “Dance Party to End Alz” benefiting the Alzheimer's Association has been announced.

The event founded by Kimberly Williams-Paisley will be hosted by Hallmark stars and friends Ashley Williams and Nikki DeLoach. Apple Music radio host Kelleigh Bannen will emcee the evening.

This year’s lineup will include Jay Allen and Kylie Morgan, Melinda Doolittle, Charles Esten, Paul Freeman, Paul Greene, MaRynn Taylor, Noah Thompson, Alicia Witt, and a special group number by Wes Brown, Paul Freeman, Ginna Clare Mason and Alicia Witt. Artists will take the stage to perform their favorite hits from the 2000s to raise awareness and funds in the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease and all other dementia.

Tickets for the event and sponsorship packages, taking place on Sunday, November 12 at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, Tenn., are available now by visiting alz.org/danceparty.

Steven Spielberg's 1981 adventure film "Raiders of the Lost Ark" opens in "South America" in 1936, actually Peru. The Peruvian jungle sequences were shot in Hawaii, while the stone temples were constructed on a soundstage at Elstree Studios in England. The film's famed opening sequence sees Professor Henry "Indiana" Jones (Harrison Ford) trekking into said Peruvian temple -- a temple lousy with spiders and booby traps -- to retrieve a golden Idol left standing on a stone alter in a long-hidden antechamber. This near-mythic object was clearly well-protected by the long-dead tribes that put it there, as still-functioning traps fired spears or darts into any potential interlopers. Once Indy retrieves the idol, it is promptly stolen by a rival archaeologist named Belloq (Paul Freeman). 

The idol doesn't play a role in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" beyond that opening sequence, and the film never stops to explain exactly what it is...

Here’s the thing: you can argue for another Indiana Jones film as the archaeologist’s greatest adventure, but then Raiders comes along and outshines it with a light that reduces all who disrespect it to dust. Raiders is a perfect film: if it had flaws they’d be like the scar on Harrison Ford’s chin: a flourish to set off the perfection of the rest. If Raiders had a flaw (see Note 2), it would be like the deliberate mistake that master Persian carpet weavers introduce to their intricate patterns so that they don’t challenge God himself. And if this film teaches us anything, it’s that challenging God is not a good idea. The other are (mostly) astonishingly great because they’re a lot like Raiders. Raiders is astonishingly great because it is a perfect film.

Playing René Belloq in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” is something English actor Paul Freeman has always taken pride in. “The fact that it just keeps giving is wonderful,” he says.

Portraying the rival archaeologist in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated film has made him a staple in the Indiana Jones canon, but it isn’t just Belloq that brought him fame. In an interview with Variety, Freeman discusses his time working on “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” the 1995 movie version of the superhero TV show, where he played the purple villain Ivan Ooze.

Freeman, 78, has had a long career that runs the gamut from Gustav Reibmann in the television soap opera “Falcon Crest” to the Reverend Shooter in Edgar Wright’s “Hot Fuzz.” As a classically trained theater actor, he’s taken on the words of David Mamet (“Glengarry Glen Ross”) and William Shakespeare (“Henry V”).

It looks like Emily's troubles are over. The creative team of the Absentia TV series has decided not to make a fourth season of the Amazon Prime Video show. The third season was released in July of last year on the streaming service.

Absentia has come to an end as star Stana Katic revealed on Friday that the Amazon series’ third season is its last.

Katic, who executive produces and leads the thriller drama series as Emily Byrne, paid tribute to her cast and crew, celebrated her time on the show and honored her fans with posts on Twitter and Instagram.

“When they asked me in January 2017 if I was ready to spend 3 years in Bulgaria shooting a cable TV series, I had no idea what I was in for. I could never have imagined the creative partnerships and the friendships that would form and enrich my life,” she wrote. “Three Seasons was the perfect amount of space for a beautiful, complicated and wonderfully fulfilling journey. We took our protagonist on the path of victim to survivor to … empowered architect of her own future, which is a journey I hope we can all have after this confounding year.

Absentia's fate has been decided, and it's not good news for fans holding on to hope for new episodes.

The hit Amazon thriller is over, with the recent third season serving as its conclusion.

Stana Katic broke the news on Twitter Friday, revealing that the plan was always for three seasons, but there was a possibility of more.

The former Castle actress said that “although we’ve danced with the idea of continuing the tale, Absentia was always meant to be only three seasons, and I couldn’t think of a better note to end on… for any person on this planet, but especially [Katic’s character] Emily and her loved ones.”

The series told the story of FBI special agent Emily Byrne who disappeared without a trace while hunting one of Boston's most notorious serial killers, and she is declared dead in absentia.

Actress Stana Katic's series "Absentia" has got a greenlight for a third season.

Amazon has given a formal season three pickup to its thriller "Absentia", which is executive produced by Katic. It will debut in 2020 exclusively on Prime Video in the Us, as well as in select markets globally, reports deadline.com.

The Stana Katic series “Absentia” has been picked up for a third season at Amazon, Variety has learned.

In addition, Geoff Bell and Josette Simon are joining the cast, while Will Pascoe has been tapped as executive producer and showrunner.

“Absentia” centers on FBI agent Emily Byrne (Katic), and the new season opens three months after the dramatic events of season two with Emily nearing the end of her suspension from the FBI and working hard to be the best possible mother to her son. Everything is upended when one of Nick Durand’s (Patrick Heusinger) criminal cases hits too close to home and threatens the lives of the family Emily is desperately trying to hold together. It’s a dangerous journey that will take Emily far from Boston testing her like never before and forcing her to learn to trust again, to love again, and to finally realize her true place in the world.

Absentia has been renewed for a third season — and with a few changes.

But his cronies in the London police are jealous of his success b/c he is as the London Chief Inspector says ‘making them all look bad’. So Angel is transferred to the small, quiet English burg of Sandford. The head of Sandford’s police force, Inspector Frank Butterman assures Angel that nothing ever goes on in Sandford and that there hasn’t been a murder or major case in 20 years!

One of the most surprising things about director Roger Christian’s 1982 chiller The Sender, which screams America from almost every fibre, is that it’s British made. With a cast and crew of varied nationality and narratively set in America – location work took place in Georgia – all the studio work for the Paramount Pictures production was actually shot on stages at Shepperton in the UK.

British born Christian himself was a former Academy Award winning art director on the first Star Wars (and a nominee in the same category for Alien). On the other end of the ‘accomplishments to be proud of’ scale, however, he’s the man responsible for the woeful Battlefield Earth, so it’s fair to say his cinematic career was mixed. The Sender, his debut in the director’s chair, resides on the upper end of that scale.
