Originally released in 2015, I was something of a fan of the superhero mockbuster Avengers Grimm, which was an off-the-wall mix of Grimm Fairy tale characters and superhero team-up movies from the schlockmeisters at The Asylum, the company behind such films as Transmorphers, Hercules Reborn and Sharknado. Despite its low-budget and somewhat flawed nature, the film was, and still is, a brilliant example of how to modernise fairy tale characters and Not just be a Once Upon a Time rip-off. It’s also a fantastic example of a family-friendly action movie with a strong central female cast – beating the current crop of big-budget movies to the mark by a few years (it’s surprising sometimes how often low-budget indie film making...

No doubt eager to capitalize on the upcoming live-action adaptation, Anchor Bay Entertainment and its subsidiary Manga Entertainment are gearing up for a deluxe rerelease of the original animated Ghost in the Shell. First released in Japan and the Us in 1995, the landmark science fiction film by legendary director Mamoru Oshii is one of the most visionary and influential films in the “cyberpunk” subgenre that exploded onto the silver screen with Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and enjoys a longstanding literary tradition thanks to authors like William Gibson and Neal Stephenson. Taking an unmistakably Japanese (and indubitably Oshii) approach to the genre, Ghost famously features both mesmerizing action sequences that inspired the Wachowskis in the direction of The Matrix, and lengthy meditations on transhumanism, existentialism, and spirituality in a hypercapitalist dystopia where human bodies and memories are subject to the same means of production and reproduction as any material resource.

A Vermont nonprofit that returns lost Purple Hearts to veterans and their descendants is attempting to reunite 100 World War I military medals of valor with the families of recipients before the 100th anniversary of when the United States joined the international conflict on April 6, 1917. Purple Hearts Reunited has returned hundreds of lost or stolen medals to rightful owners since it was founded in 2012, providing solace to families looking for a way to commemorate their loved ones. We know it's been on your calendar all year. You've likely been counting down the days, and now that day has arrived - Middle Name Appreciation Day. March 10 is a day to be thankful for your underappreciated middle name, a name which doesn't get much love or notoriety unless you're filling out a Dmv form … or if you're in trouble with your mother. To celebrate, we honor those celebrities whose parents got very creative with the whole middle-naming process, some who went so far as to give their child literally every name they could think of - we're looking at you,...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that nine scientific and technical achievements represented by 25 individual award recipients will be honored at its annual Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation at The Beverly Hills Hotel on Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Unlike other Academy Awards to be presented this year, achievements receiving Scientific and Technical Awards need not have been developed and introduced during 2012. Rather, the achievements must demonstrate a proven record of contributing significant value to the process of making motion pictures. Portions of the Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation will be included in the Oscar telecast on Sunday, February 24, 2013.
The Academy Awards for scientific and technical achievements are:
Technical Achievement Award (Academy Certificate)
To J.P. Lewis, Matt Cordner and Nickson Fong for the invention and publication of the Pose Space Deformation technique.
Pose Space Deformation (Psd) introduced the use of novel sparse data interpolation techniques to the task of shape interpolation.

Paul Walker is cast as the main character in Pawn Shop Chronicles, a new thriller that Fred Durst will direct.
William Frederick “Fred” Durst, a musician, director and actor, known primarily as the frontman of the band Limp Bizkit, was previously directed The Longshots (2008) which grossed over $4 million in its opening week.
The Pawn Shop Chronicles was written by Adam Minarovich, who at one point worked in a pawn shop in North Caroline.
Mimran Schur Pictures’ Jordan Schur and David Mimran are producing, along with Steven Schneider and Durst, putting their money in the hands of the forever young Paul Walker’s charm.
Jordan Schur is calling the script,
fast-moving and action-packed. It’s also very funny. It’s got all these elements to really pack a punch. This is a hillbilly Pulp Fiction.”
Indeed, the interrelated stories comprise the plot structure of this film, centering on a lost wedding...

The Metal Box is another film that will play at the Newport Film Festival beginning April 27th. The first trailer shows surreal moments as actress Leah Gibson (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), playing Anna, is hidden behind a metallic contraption. The film seems dreamlike, with most of the primary shots set in a wide, open, barren desert. A trailer is available below for The Metal Box and one of characters (Gibson) can be seen on set and behind the cameras as seen left.
A short synopsis for The Metal Box here:
"John Searle, a stoic government agent has to trust a dangerous criminal in order to see his daughter again" (IMDb).
Release: April 27, 2010.
Director/writer: Harky Jewett.
Cast: Amanda Misquez, Carlos Acuna, Jeanette Horn, William Knight, Sam Lonigro, Michael J. Russo, and Brick Patrick.

I read the news today, (well, actually about a week ago) oh boy. Grandpa Jack ain't coming back no more! There are the predictable mixed emotions over the show ending. On the one hand, things have gotten mostly boring and repetitive, with a sprinkle of flat out farce. I know it's difficult to surprise those of us who've been watching since the first season, but that's still no excuse for some of the nonsense we've seen (Dana). On the other hand, if the writer's room got some new blood and tricked-out the storylines, I'd definitely watch Jack save a few more days ... well, if we also got a contractual agreement to kill off Renee. And speaking of Renee, that psychotic bitch is back and has inexplicably been allowed to tag along on a Presidential security detail! Are you frakking kidding me? The failure of the writers to spend one moment...
