- Developed the idea for her radio play 'Hitchhiker' (which was subsequently filmed) after twice seeing a strange-looking man (first on the Brooklyn Bridge and, again, on the Pulaski Skyway, New Jersey) while driving en route to Hollywood with her then-husband, Bernard Herrmann.
- Fletcher worked with first husband Bernard Herrmann on radio drama, including Orson Welles' "Mercury Theatre of the Air". She wrote the libretto for his opera "Wuthering Heights", but, by the time the opera was produced, the couple had parted.
