Of course, horror is well known for having killer puppets. Depending on how you define ‘puppet’, there’s been Chucky, Annabelle, Jigsaw and others in films like Poltergeist, Krampus and Dolls. Puppet Killer is the first I remember to feature a fluffy pink puppet though.
Hat puppet and it’s owner are big horror movie fans though and so obviously end up in a cabin in the woods with a murderer (guess who) out to kill the group of friends staying there. It’s predictable but it’s supposed to be. This is a movie clearly made by people who like their old school horror movies, and as this one is a comedy, they have some fun with it and the usual horror movie clichés.

As he glancingly returns to the genre with his new film, Cry Macho, it’s worth taking a look at the last Western that Clint Eastwood made, 1992’s Unforgiven. While he’s circled back to certain themes and concepts endemic to the Western in films since then, Unforgiven was his last film specifically and explicitly set in the Old West and was — as he said at the time — his final word on the subject.
Eastwood has pretty much stayed true to that, even as Unforgiven stands nearly 30 years later as a masterpiece in its own right and arguably one of the greatest Westerns of all time.
Much as Cry Macho attempts to strip away modern myths about what it means to be a man or “macho,” Unforgiven tears down the longstanding mythology built around the American Old West and propagated through scores of Westerns that Hollywood pumped out for decades.

Jane Espenson's new episode of Once Upon a Time, "The Return," airs tonight at 8 pm on ABC. Jane did a bunch of interviews this week, both about Once and her other projects, old and new. Here are some snippets:
Buddy TV:
What can you say about the upcoming Once Upon a Time episode, "The Return"?
Jane Espenson: "The Return...' I really love this one. It's another Rumplestiltskin episode and he is my favorite. And yeah, this is an episode in which he is, in Storybrooke he's going to figure out who August is. And in fairytale land, he's going to be dealing with his son, who's not entirely happy about how his father's changing and wants him to change back. So Gold is going to be going through some stuff. Because he's a character who remembers his past. So, unlike a lot of characters, when we do the flashbacks,...

Once Upon A Time “Red-Handed” Air Date: 3/11/2012
After an abysmal effort last week, Once Upon A Time throws a werewolf into the mix and, despite emerging werewolf fatigue, rebounds nicely. This week is a Ruby and Red Riding Hood-centric episode, with the investigation of Kathryn’s disappearance looming in the background until a gut punch at the end.
At Granny’s Diner, Ruby (Meghan Ory) is, as always, flirting with her clientele, including August, the former Stranger (Eion Bailey). August speaks of seeing the world, and once he mentions lemurs, Ruby’s sold on the idea (they apparently don’t have a zoo in Storybrooke), and who can blame her? Lemurs are delightful. When Granny (Beverly Elliott) interrupts and tries to get her help with the books, and Ruby ignores her, they blow up at each other (I would never yell at my Granny), resulting in Ruby walking out...

Finally! Fifteen episodes into the series, we get our first real chance to know Ruby/Red Riding Hood (Meghan Ory). She's been in the background of nearly every episode and there's no mystery to who is her alter ego, but Ruby/Red herself has never had her chance in the spotlight. Until now. In fairytale land, the fugitive Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) stumbles upon Red Riding Hood and her crossbow-totin' Granny (Beverley Elliott). Sadly, Red is finding it hard to have a love life (or any kind of life) when there's a ravenous wolf outside and a super-protective Granny inside. When the two young ladies go hunting the beast, they discover instead the horrible family curse Red has inherited. And, tragically, Red discovers that it's hard to have a happily-ever-after when you turn into ...

Once Upon A Time, Season 1, Episode 15: “Red Handed”
Written by Ron Underwood
Directed by Jane Espenson
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
“Red Handed” is a substantial improvement from last week’s unessential “Dreamy,” for several reasons. One, the background of Red/Ruby ties in better to the bigger picture of the season. Two, the episode takes more unique twists and turns than a run-of-the-mill love story, and three, Beverley Elliot’s performance as Granny.
In Storybrooke, Ruby quits her job at Granny’s Café after a public dispute with her grandmother. She starts helping Emma in the Sheriff’s office, assisting in the search for the still-missing Kathryn. In the Enchanted Forest, Red Riding Hood and Granny take caution while a wolf is on the loose in the nearby area. The local village forms a hunting party to put it down, but it still suffers the beast’s attacks.

Someone in Storybrooke is finding their unhappily ever after next Sunday, so it's time play 'Guess the Corpse!' The Grim Reaper may not be an official fairy tale character, but he's still making his way for Storybrooke... and just in time for the Dec. 11 episode of Once Upon A Time! We've known for a few weeks about the impending vacancy -- the victim's fairy tale counterpart will still be seen in flashbacks -- but with the major killing now less than a week away, we can really start to cook up some wild theories. So who do You think will be saying sayonara to Storybrooke? We already know that said corpse is someone who exists in both Storybrooke and the fairy tale world, so that eliminates Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Henry (Jared Gilmore.) And considering how vital they are to the real-world drama, I think it's also safe to...

Just a reminder that Jane Espenson's new show, Once Upon a Time, premieres tonight at 8 pm on ABC.
Blogcritics talked to Jane about the show last week. Here are a few snippets from the interview:
So this is the year of the fairytale on primetime TV with Once Upon a Time, and then Grimm is also premiering shortly thereafter. Why did that happen, do you think? Does it have to do with the whole True Blood and vampire and mythology thing, do you think?
Yeah, the vampires. The era of the vampire lasted for longer than I though it would. And I’ve been sort of waiting to see what would be the next thing. Because aliens, robots, and monsters, including vampires, all play the same role in fantasy drama. I've heard it expressed, and I think this is pretty smart, that in sort of Depression-era times, there’s...

We have all the latest from the gang at Storybrooke, Maine: Prince Charming, the Evil Queen, and Emma, along with casting news and the latest series information from ABC about the upcoming premiere of Once Upon a Time.
First up, via TV Guide, we have the Evil Queen, also known as Regina in Storybrooke, played by Lana Parrilla:
Next, the very charming Prince Charming, known in Storybrooke initially as John Doe, played by Josh Dallas:
And this from our heroine, Emma Swan, played by Jennifer Morrison:
In casting news, TV Guide has reported that Brad Dourif (Fringe, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers) has been cast as “a beggar who befriends the evil Rumpelstiltskin.” Hopefully he’ll be able to look less creepy than when he was playing Wormtongue. Playing opposite Robert Carlysle as Rumpelstiltskin, maybe the two of them will be vying for Creepiest in All the Land.
