The holidays started early in Tinseltown (and elsewhere), beginning with James Cameron missing his own “Avatar: The Way of Water” Hollywood premiere, knocked down with a bout of Covid and moving on to New York’s first look at “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Santa turned up at Christina Moore and John Ducey’s “I Believe in Santa” Netflix premiere and there was even a Christmas Con! Meanwhile, Damien Chazelle brought a much less family-friendly flick, “Babylon,” to the City of Angels in another splashy premiere.

The pilot to Bad Judge feels off. That's not unexpected for a show that's already had two showrunners, a heavily revised first episode, and major cast alterations before the pilot has even premiered. Out of all of the behind-the-scenes calamity, though, comes a pilot that looks more like Frankenstein's Monster than a half-hour comedy. It's an episode that stitches together parts of completely different concepts in the hopes of making something cohesive, but instead delivers an episode nothing short of erratic. In the patchwork of a pilot, Bad Judge is missing just about every key ingredient—coherent plotting, concrete characterization,...

Just keeping busy before its big schedule announcement on Sunday, NBC picked up a trio of comedies on Friday afternoon, including two from executive producer Will Ferrell. The "Anchorman" star and "Anchorman" director Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions is behind "Bad Judge" and "Mission Control," which will be joined by "One Big Happy" on NBC's slate for next season. Sadly, Ferrell has nothing to do with "One Big Happy," but with Ellen DeGeneres executive producing, it doesn't lack for behind-the-scenes starpower. Let's look at the three new NBC comedies and let's try not to resent that they were ordered while "Community" was cancelled... In addition to DeGeneres, "One Big Happy" is executive produced by creator Liz Feldman and pilot director Scott Ellis. The comedy focuses on best friends Lizzy (Elisha Cuthbert) and Luke (Nick Zano). She's a Type-a lesbian! He's a laid-back straight guy! They've decided that they want to have a family together,...

Ducey, repped by Pakula/King & Assoc., will play Tom, a dapper Da and a shameless brown-noser who wants to be judge and would climb over Rebecca’s (Walsh) dead body to advance his own career. "J.O.N.A.S!", the brand new TV series by Jonas Brothers has received a new promo on Disney Channel, although the premiere date is still a couple of months away. Executive producer Roger Schulman has compared the show to The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night", which is a movie starring the legendary band. "It's hard not to make parallel comparisons to the Beatles...
