“Art of a Hit takes everything we love about the late ‘90s and early 2000s rock scene and jams it into a wildly creepy castle in the most beautiful place on earth: Dordogne, France. The unholy union of rock music and horror is alive and well in Art of a Hit, a psychological horror movie set to begin production soon according to Deadline.
Formerly titled Excelsis, Art of a Hit is set in 2003 and “follows a bygone rock band as they journey to a 1000-year-old French chateau to record with a reclusive super-producer in hopes of rebooting their career. But as tensions rise and tempers flare, they realize they are up against more than just the pressure to succeed.”
Deadline reports that “Indie rock pioneer Adam Lasus is music directing the ’90s alternative-heavy soundtrack alongside music supervisor Linda Cohen (Licorice Pizza).”
That exciting tidbit not only highlights that music will be prominent to this rock horror story, but it’s 2003 eschews the conventional ’80s hair metal movement frequently explored in this niche subgenre. I suppose the real question at this point is just how...

Cannabis is known to have many medical benefits and can be helpful with conditions like cancer, chronic pain, and Ptsd. There is also evidence of marijuana being connected to spirituality and being used for ritualistic purposes throughout history. Trim Season is a fantastical and thought-provoking commentary on gender and the magical benefits of cannabis.
Trim Season was written by David Blair (The Triangle), Sean E. DeMott (American Satan), and Cullen Poythress, directed by Ariel Vida (Vide Noir), and produced by Paper Street Pictures. Vida was the production designer for Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s mind-bending films Something in the Dirt and The Endless, and if you’re familiar with the universe Benson and Moorhead have created, you will appreciate the imaginative and almost mythical Easter Eggs Vida incorporates into Trim Season.

Exclusive: Maxim Swinton (Halston) has joined the cast of Raymond and Ray, writer-director Rodrigo García’s (Four Good Days) film for Apple Studios.
He joins an ensemble that includes Ewan McGregor, Ethan Hawke, Maribel Verdú and Sophie Okonedo, as previously announced.
The film currently in production in Virginia centers on Raymond (McGregor) and Ray (Hawke), half-brothers who have lived in the shadow of a terrible father. Somehow, they still each have a sense of humor, and his funeral is a chance for them to reinvent themselves. There’s anger, there’s pain, there’s folly, there might be love, and there’s definitely grave-digging.
Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón is producing with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn of Mockingbird Pictures, with Gabriela Rodriguez and Shea Kammer serving as EPs.
Swinton recently portrayed a younger version of McGregor’s fashion designer Halston in Netflix’s Emmy-winning miniseries of the same name. The...

The notion of David Arquette starring in a horror movie about a “possessed” rock band promises so much trashy fun, a certain amount of disappointment seems almost inevitable. Yet “High Voltage” confounds expectations by being very little fun at all. Short on thrills and energy despite its title, this slick yet sluggish feature often seems barely interested in the horror elements that are, after all, what will primarily lure viewers in.
Instead, the genre hook comes off as more of a Trojan Horse with which to smuggle in a showcase for “Hollow Body”, the onscreen vehicle for writer-director Alex Keledjian’s songwriting and costar Allie Gonino’s singing. It’s an awkward, compromising combination that ultimately provides little satisfaction on any level — unless you’re content to watch Gonino model a series of increasingly over-the-top, midriff-baring “sexy rock chick” fashions.

We all remember the controversy that surrounded the production of Cabin Fever 2, where director Ti West was met with overwhelming studio-interference, to the point that he tried to have his name removed from the project. I don’t have the second film, but there is no denying that it is “bad”. Still, though it had a somewhat entertaining quality, even if it was a bastardized version of what it was originally intended. After that, there was always talk of a new sequel, and even a reboot, and now that a sequel has actually been produced, it seems as though, instead of making a film that connections to Patient Zero, like they originally intended, they’re going with a reboot of the series instead. Nevertheless, Patient Zero exists, so how does it stack up against the first two films? Well, it is definitely better than Spring Fever, but there is a catch.

A small outbreak of a nasty flesh-eating virus has left a single survivor, and now the scientists responsible for it all have turned Porter (Sean Astin) into a human lab rat. Having watched his only son melt in his arms, Porter’s far from a willing participant in the experimentation and instead just wants to return to his wife. Elsewhere on the island four friends have arrived for an impromptu bachelor party. Marcus (Mitch Ryan) is a day away from getting married, so when his brother Josh (Brando Eaton) and their friends Dobbs (Ryan Donowho) and Penny (Jillian Murray) suggest the overnight trip to a secluded island he finds it hard to resist. A brief swim along the shore reveals a curious absence of sea life, but that doesn’t interfere with diving of another sort back in the tent… and it’s not long before the dangers of island cunnilingus come very, very...

When Cabin Fever came out in 2002, it was a sensation among fans of freaky frights. The film packed more than a little punch with its own version of the karate kid, a leg shaving scene that set disposable razor sales back for a year, and a German Shepherd who made Cujo look like a lapdog.
Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever left a legacy hard to live up to, but of course a dumbed-down sequel was released. It was directed by Roth’s Bff Ti West, but one would never guess that after the studio heads got hold of it in the editing room and butchered it.
Regardless, the Cabin Fever name still carries weight so there is a prequel that's out now on demand and will be in theaters on August 1, 2014.

Regardless, the Cabin Fever name still carries weight so there is a prequel that's out now on demand and will be in theaters on August 1, 2014.

I used to watch any horror movie I could put my hands on, back in the good old days of VHS. Going to the different tape rental outlets in St. Louis, (remember Mom and Pop video rental stores? St. Louis used to be full of them.)
Getting to see movies like Re-Animator or Scanners in a theater was a very special treat. I could even enjoy the by-the-numbers of a Friday the 13th or Halloween entry. Blood and gore never bothered me, the more the better. If the movie wasn’t really scary maybe it might have been funny or so bad it was good.
Now, I don’t know, maybe it’s from getting old and having so little time to waste on these kinds of films. I find more of my time taken up with rediscovered silent films,...

“Does this look infected?”
Your ol’ pal (well, I guess for the readers here at Famous Monsters I’m your new pal, seeing as this is my first review here!) Daniel Xiii really digs a flick that piles on the gore, a preference that has existed in me since the glory days of 80’s splatter shockers; so any new release that harkens back to those more extreme, over-the-top days of gallons o’ grue is always welcome in the crypt of Xiii.

*full disclosure: a theatrical screening of this film was provided by Sinister Cinemas and Raven Banner Entertainment. Director: Kaare Andrews. Writer: Jake Wade Wall. Cast: Sean Astin, Currie Graham, Ryan Donowho, Brando Eaton and Jillian Murray. Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero was originally developed as a prequel. This film would be the first in the franchise, followed by Eli Roth's Cabin Fever (2002) and Ti West's Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009). Later, the script was reworked and the film is the second sequel in the franchise. And really, this is a standalone film as this title has only the loosest connections with the previous two films. This second sequel uses several standard indie horror features, which will be recognizable to most fans. However, actor Sean Astin as Porter offers a few deadly surprises along the way. Also, a few slower moments threaten to derail the momentum of the film,...

The good news is, that a “prequel” to Cabin Fever is hitting VOD outlets in less than a month. The bad news is, Cabin Fever 2 left such a bad taste in some viewers’ mouths, that I have no idea if there is even any public interest in such a thing. I was one of the ones that was initially shocked by the badness of Cabin Fever 2, because it had a young but strong cast, and one of my favorite up-and-coming directors attached to the project. Fans of body horror will be happy to know there's a new film coming with more views of gory insides than pretty faces. Directed by Kaare Andrews ("The ABCs of Death") and written by Jake Wade Wall, "Cabin Fever: Patient Zero" (a prequel to 2010's "Cabin Fever") tells the fairly conventional story of a group of attractive friends looking for a relaxing vacation in the Caribbean only to instead--to their dismay and our delightful horror-- find their guts on the sand. It costars relative unknowns Ryan Donowho, Brando Eaton, Jillian Murray, Mitch Ryan, and Lydia Hearst.Read More: Image Entertainment Acquires 'Cabin Fever: Patient Zero"Patient Zero" combines the usual narrative of young people being gruesomely murdered in isolated places with that of a deadly virus outbreak. In all fairness, director Kaare Andrews could have shown colonoscopy footage for an hour and a half and it still would have entertained viewers longer than Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever managed to – but our ambitious auteur goes above and beyond by delivering a sequel more in line with Roth’s original cult phenomenon. Sure, Rider Strong doesn’t drop in for another “explosive” cameo, but back once again is Roth’s flesh-eating virus, and this time it’s ready for the big leagues. Cabin Fever: Patient Zero is a puss-ridden, grotesque, splattery bit of biological horror, and while it lacks the indie charms that wooed franchise fans initially, Andrews’ pseudo-reboot could be the start of something nasty – rivaling Roth’s signature brand of stomach-turning visual horrors.
Since ruining a friendly vacation and eating through a prom, officials are still struggling to contain the hungry virus causing so much devastation.

Director Kaare Andrews' (Altitude) Cabin Fever: Patient Zero will play in twenty-eight Canadian cities! The film will begin its Canadian launch in Toronto, Ontario, before moving out to more theatres May 29th. This is the third film in a horror franchise, which involves contaminated water. The contamination leads to lesions and deformities and horror fans will want to seek this film out, in theatres. Cabin Fever: Patient Zero stars Sean Astin (Extraction), Brando Eaton ("Burn Notice"), Jillian Murray, Lydia Hearst and Ryan Donowho. A preview for the theatrical launch is here. In this prequel to the original 2002 film, several partiers travel to an isolated Caribbean island. Here, they find an abandoned research and science facility and they decide to go for a deadly swim. They are immersed in a virus, which eats their flesh. Now, these friends will have to find a cure, quickly, or die from this mysterious disease.

A franchise that was once notable for launching the career of Eli Roth, over a decade later, "Cabin Fever" has films going straight-to-dvd overseas. Indeed, that's the case with "Cabin Fever: Patient Zero" which hit home video today in the UK. But it looks like it'll get a theatrical release of some kind stateside, and a new trailer is here to gross you out. Starring Sean Astin (lol, whut?), Currie Graham and Ryan Donowho, this new effort from Kaare Andrews ("The ABCs Of Death") follows a group of young people who head to the Caribbean, party on an empty island, and then encounter something that results in lots of blood-letting. Looking pretty low-rent all around, this seems like it's for the diehard horror buffs and fans only, or for those genuinely curious about Astin's presence in this one (and he does get the best line in trailer, which you'll just...

Mainstream horror has shifted from gore to ghosts and found footage in the past few years, but there's still room for a good old fashioned splatter film here and there. Wet Behind the Ears: Alaimo’s Suburban Malaise a Standard Procedure
We’ve come to expect a certain amount of functional dysfunction to be featured in independent films depicting the decomposition of nuclear American families all tuckered out by their dogged insistence on living out the illusion of a proscribed way of existence. You can count Jay Alaimo’s latest film, Chlorine, as an overly familiar example of hitting all the customary checkmarks, including a more pressing and dramatic back story used to tie its disparate characters together.
Issues of class and how we’re conditioned to always hunt for loopholes to score upgrades seems to be an overarching theme but between a handful of moments where Alaimo is trying too hard to score pathos or convey information, the film is a stagnant, emotional plateau, managing only to ingrain us with an apathetic attitude towards its characters.
