For producer Barry Navidi, Johnny Depp’s directorial comeback “Modi, Three Days on the Wing of Madness” marks a full-circle moment in an unconventional career.
Navidi’s first time working with Depp nearly 30 years ago on the 1995 project “Divine Rapture” ended in disappointment when the production was shelved. But on Tuesday, the two will celebrate a high with the world premiere of “Modi” at San Sebastian Film Festival.
Set in war-torn Paris in 1916, “Modi” follows 72 turbulent hours in the life of bohemian artist Amedeo Modigliani (Riccardo Scamarcio). Fleeing the police and contemplating leaving the city, Modi is convinced to stay by his fellow artists. After a night of hallucinations, he encounters American collector Maurice Gangnat (Pacino), who could change his life forever.
Born in pre-revolution Iran, Navidi grew up watching Hollywood and Indian films. One that made an impression was “The Godfather,” starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. “Call it fate,...

Bloody good western thrillers are hard to come by these days, so criticizing The Thicket for its predictable plotline would be unnecessary nitpicking, given how stylish, satirical, and often subversive the rest of the movie is. With Peter Dinklage playing the role of an ace bounty hunter and Juliette Lewis’ stellar performance as a savage, crooked outlaw, gun violence galore to the heart’s content of western fans—what more viewers could ask for anyway?
Adapted from Joe R. Lansdale’s novel of the same name, The Thicket is a gritty vengeance western that simultaneously employs some of the genre stereotypes and twists it to present the narrative as a revisionist take. Aside from the payoff, which doesn’t really hit the spot after a prolonged buildup, The Thicket is a solid one-time watch that retains uniqueness with its pulpy undertone.

Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage playing criminal twins in an action comedy from the director of Palm Springs, one of the funniest films of the decade, is a hell of an elevator pitch. And it's exactly what we're going to be getting with Max Barbakow's Amazon MGM Studios joint Brothers, a wackadoodle crime caper poured from The Toxic Avenger writer Macon Blair's pen and dreamt up by The Bad Guys' Etan Cohen. Throw in Glenn Close as the dastardly duo's deranged mother, Brendan Fraser as the screw loose crook tailing our anti-heroes across America, and Marisa Tomei singing "Suck on my balls!", and you've got all the makings of a real romp. Check out the quirky first trailer below:
Right from the get-go — in which a balaclava-clad Brendan Fraser yeets Dinklage's Jady at a wall and yells "Where are my emeralds?" — it's very clear that Good Time this ain't.

Peter Dinklage is often considered one of the best actors working today. However, in recent years, the performer regularly shows up in some of the most surprising places. That could be as a huge dwarf in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or perhaps as the bad guy in a “Transformers” film. Hell, perhaps his most surprising role is in “The Toxic Avenger”.

Director Max Barbakow’s movie hits select theaters Oct. 10 from Amazon MGM Studios before streaming on Prime Video a week later. Brendan Fraser, Glenn Close, Taylour Paige, M. Emmet Walsh and Jennifer Landon round out the cast.
Brothers centers on two criminal siblings who agree to team up for one final heist and set out on a road trip that promises chaos.

Dinklage previously explained the project’s origin during an interview with Collider.

For years now, rumors have swirled that two "Game of Thrones" stars — Lena Headey, who played Cersei Lannister, and Jerome Flynn, who played Bronn — wouldn't appear together on-screen after a terrible breakup in real life. So is it true?
It's not, according to Flynn himself. During a 2019 appearance at Con of Thrones in Nashville, Flynn addressed the rumors and said that, contrary to what he'd heard, the two were on fine terms. "We were actually in the same scene together, and the last time I saw Lena we were speaking, so I wouldn't believe everything you read, and like I said, [the media] can get pretty desperate for stories," Flynn said before praising Headey: "Lena is a wonderful person and a wonderful actress. I think the world of her."
So why did these rumors surface in the first place? During the season 7 finale of "Game of Thrones," titled "The Dragon and the Wolf,...

I doubt you need me to tell you that Taylor Swift is a big deal right now. The pop star is selling out stadiums and boosting the economies of countries around the world. Her fans are famously loyal, to the point where they'll love you if you publicly say you like her and her music. And if say you don't...well, tread lightly.
Peter Dinklage, who played Tyrion Lannister for all eight seasons on Game of Thrones, is on their good side. "Taylor Swift, I can tell you anything about Taylor Swift, 'cause I'm in it, I'm in it deep," he said on a recent episode of the podcast Andrew Schulz's Flagrant with Akaash Singh. The 71st Primetime Emmys were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 22nd, 2019. While it was a big night for shows like “Game of Thrones,” “Fleabag,” and “Chernobyl” in their respective genre fields, there were a fair amount of surprises that the Gold Derby odds didn’t predict. Perhaps the biggest shock of the night was Jason Bateman winning Best Drama Directing for “Ozark’s” season two premiere, “Reparations.” How was he able to overcome his sixth place odds and win his first Emmy for directing?
When the nominations were announced on July 16th, 2019, “Game of Thrones” led the drama field with 32 bids for its eighth and final season. It was followed by “Better Call Saul,” “Killing Eve,” “Ozark” and “This Is Us,” all earning 9 noms each. “Game of Thrones” was touted to handily win its fourth Drama Series Emmy as well as its third for directing.

Actor Peter Dinklage has appeared in shows and movies aplenty over the years, but around here we'll always know him best as Tyrion Lannister, the wise-cracking, cynical nobleman from Game of Thrones. Dinklage is out on the press trail to promote his new Western movie The Thicket, which is out now in select theaters and coming soon to Tubi. And while Dinklage's rugged cowboy character Reginald Jones sounds pretty far from Tyrion, the actor's name still calls to mind Game of Thrones for many people.
As Rolling Stone pointed out in a new interview with Dinklage, he's still introduced on talk shows like Jimmy Kimmel with a mention of his Game of Thrones role even though the series ended more than five years ago. Does it bother Dinklage to still have that public attachment?
"When you do a Rolling Stone cover, you make your bed, man," Dinklage joked. "It would...

Max Barbakow, whose debut effort was the Hulu film, Palm Springs, returns with another comedy that’s star studded with Brothers. The film stars Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage, Glenn Close, Brendan Fraser, Taylour Paige, E. Emmet Walsh, and Jennifer Landon. Per Entertainment Weekly, the film’s plot reads “Moke (Brolin), a reformed criminal trying to live on the straight and narrow, is forced back into the game by his scheming sibling, Jady (Dinklage), with the promise of a one-and-done job that could set them up for life. They embark on a cross-country road trip, dodging bullets, the law, and an overbearing mother (Close’s Cath) along the way as they attempt to heal their fractured relationship…before they kill each other.”
Barbakow would also marvel at how silly and weird the set became, even with all these esteemed actors in the cast. He told EW, “In between setups, Josh somehow...

For eight seasons of "Game of Thrones," actor Peter Dinklage embodied one of the smartest, most politically-savvy figures of the entire series in Tyrion Lannister. His popularity among fans largely stemmed from his sarcastic sense of humor, some epic monologues (this one from his trial in season 4 is still an all-timer), and his ability to effortlessly play the eponymous game that so many others couldn't. But, like the vast majority of the ensemble, even Tyrion couldn't escape the show's divisive final season unscathed. He survived the dragon-fire carnage when many others did not, mind you, but not before many considered the character to be diminished by several head-scratching creative choices by the finale -- not the least of which was his impassioned argument for a new ruler of Westeros, decided by who among them had the "best story," of all things.
Don't tell any of that to Dinklage himself, however.

As Game of Thrones‘ Tyrion Lannister, Peter Dinklage survived various near-death experiences almost exclusively via his wits — but in his new movie, the enjoyably dark Western The Thicket, he plays Reginald Jones, a bounty hunter who’s a lot less verbal, and a lot more comfortable wielding a knife. Juliette Lewis gives an equally memorable performance as the movie’s villain, a scarred, brutal criminal originally written as a man in Joe Lansdale’s 2013 novel. Metallica‘s James Hetfield also pops up in a smaller role, looking like he was born for the setting.

Universal’s large-scale Wizard of Oz film Wicked was bumped up in its release date to coincide with the premiere of Ridley Scott’s Roman sequel Gladiator II. Gladiator II star Paul Mescal not only welcomed it, but hoped it would become the next Barbenheimer-esque phenomenon. It looks as if Universal is also eager to release the immediate follow-up of Wicked as Wicked: Part Two, which was once slated for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, November 26, 2025, will now be released earlier in the week on November 21, 2025, according to Deadline.
Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz. The film stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony-winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who...

Universal Pictures’s Wicked: Part Two is going a few days earlier on Nov. 21, 2025 instead of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, 2025.
The move is similar to what Universal did this year, getting Wicked: Part One off the Wednesday before Thanksgiving which has Disney’s Moana 2.
Wicked: Part One is now going Nov. 22, the same day as Paramount’s Gladiator 2. Exhibition, and the industry’s hope, is that some sort of Barbenheimer box office halo will take place again with both men and women passionately storming to see both films. That would be quite the movie-date night with men dressed up as gladiators, and women in pink fairy dresses and pointy hat witch get-up.
In the case of Wicked: Part Two, it was dated on the same day as Disney’s Zootopia 2.

In the highly competitive world of streaming services, Tubi has made a name for itself. It’s a weird name, sure, but it’s a name. Tubi is free with commercials, which companies like Netflix probably think is madness, but more importantly it’s packed with movies and TV shows that pretty much all the other streamers don’t give a crap about.
You can find big releases licensed from major studios, but you can get those anywhere. Try finding the 1988 Canadian TV series “T and T” — about Mister T working as a legal aid — on Netflix or Disney+. They would never. Tubi is the equivalent of the quirky mom and pop video store located just down the street from a parasitic Blockbuster that can’t quite put them out of business, because Blockbuster doesn’t carry esoteric oddities like the 1990 ultra-low budget compilation video “That’s Action” hosted by Robert Culp.

Wait, you’re telling me there’s a Tubi original film that doesn’t—how do I put this—suck? Just from the look of the poster, The Thicket seems like a bad career move for Emmy-winner Peter Dinklage, an understandable one for Juliette Lewis, and an act of desperation from a director specializing in pop-star music videos.
I couldn’t have been more wrong. Elliott Lester’s The Thicket is a masterstroke in pace and tone. Like Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven decades prior strips away the facade of the Old West. No, Lester’s great Western trailblazer strips away the lore, presenting a ruthless and cutthroat world unlike any we’ve seen in the genre in years.
Lester’s film captures the true dangers of the frontier, pitiless to the weak. Yet no matter how tough and seasoned these characters are, everyone calls out for their mamas by the end.

Juliette Lewis has a very good reason why her horseback ridings skills are so impressive in her new thriller, “The Thicket.”
“I’m a third-place ribbon barrel racer,” Lewis says on this week’s episode of “Just for Variety.” “I was an equestrian. I grew up riding horses before I was 12. So the first thing we did in Calgary [where the movie was shot in the dead of winter] was get on a horse. They wanted to check us out, how you rode. I got a very good rating with my horse riding.”
In the Elliott Lester-directed movie (in theaters Sept. 6), based on Joe R. Lansdale’s book of the same name, Lewis plays Cut Throat Bill, a violent hardened outlaw at the turn of the 20th century who kidnaps a young girl (Esmé Creed-Miles ). The girl’s brother (Levon Hawke) hires a bounty hunter (Peter Dinklage) to rescue his sister.

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin took to his Not A Blog this week with more updates, and as is mandated by the old gods and the new, we are here to discuss them. Last week Martin published a post announcing that he'd returned from his month-long trip to Europe, where he visited the set of the Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in Belfast, attended the World Science Fiction Convention in Glasgow, and more. He also said that he would soon be airing some grievances about House of the Dragon season 2 in the near future.
This blog post, titled "September Morn," doesn't get into the nitty-gritty for House of the Dragon. Instead it's a much more cheerful update, all about the short films Martin has been producing based on the works of author Howard Waldrop. One of them, Mary-Margaret Road Grader,...

Plot: West Texas. A boy who, after his sister is kidnapped by a violent killer known only as Cut Throat Bill, enlists a fierce bounty hunter named Reginald Jones who becomes the leader of the group of outcasts searching for the stolen girl.
Review: If there’s one thing I’ve always appreciated about Peter Dinklage it’s that he often avoids roles that highlight his dwarfism. He’s such a presence that he can take a role intended for a larger actor and make it totally believable. His desire to not be put into a box is quite commendable and it shines through in his work. He’s always putting his best foot forward, and creating interesting characters, which is why I was immediately interested in his new Western, The Thicket. Add in an eclectic group of side characters and you’ve got the makings of one of the better Westerns of the year.

Kit Harington admitted he got pranked a lot by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, and at one point, he truly believed he would spend six years of his career in the show with a fake nose.

Known for portraying Jon Snow, the 37-year-old English star recalled some of his memorable moments behind the scenes of the famed HBO fantasy show. He was only 24 years old when he joined Season 1. He played the character for eight installments which ran from 2011 to 2019.
Kit Harington Believed He Would Play A Disfigured Jon Snow
Kit Harington was one of the youngest cast members of Game of Thrones. At the time, it was the biggest project and major television role he’d ever done in his career after getting out of drama school. Because he was pretty new to it, he became the victim of pranks.
