Production has begun on a second season of “Scrublands,” the Australian crime thriller series starring Luke Arnold (“Black Sails”) and Bella Heathcote.

With action set a year after the events of the first season, award-winning investigative journalist Martin Scarsden (Arnold) has returned to his coastal hometown, Port Silver, in Western Australia, to set up a new life with partner Mandy Bond (Heathcote). When he arrives to find his childhood friend Jasper brutally murdered and Bond the prime suspect, Scarsden struggles with doubts – about Bond and about his own ability to recognize the truth. As he pushes forward to find the real murderer and absolve Bond, Scarsden confronts secrets about Port Silver and his long-buried past.

The series is directed by Ben Young and written by Felicity Packard, Fiona Kelly and Jock Serong. It is based on “Silver,” the best-selling novel by Chris Hammer that is a sequel to the author’s “Scrublands” title.

Exclusive: Luke Carroll (The Artful Dodger), Debra Lawrance (Please Like Me) and David Roberts (Please Like Me) are among the new stars of Australian drama Scrublands, which is gearing up for its second season on Stan and 9 Network.

Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to Owen Trevor’s debut feature Go!, excluding Australia and New Zealand where Roadshow Films will launch the See Pictures production on more than 240 screens on Thursday.

The streamer will release the action-packed family film scripted by Paper Planes’ Steve Worland under its original title Go Karts.

Worland has written a novelisation of the film in Australia which will be published in the Us later this year.

Canada-based Aqute Media negotiated the Netflix deal, which also excludes China, on behalf of the producers Jamie Hilton and Sonia Borella.

William Lodder stars as 15-year-old Jack, a charismatic larrikin who discovers go kart racing after he moves to a new town with his mother (Frances O’Connor) and dedicates himself to the sport.

Richard Roxburgh plays Patrick, an old race-car driver with a secret past who along with Jack’s new friends helps...

Owen Trevor’s Go!, John Sheedy’s H is for Happiness, Ben Lawrence’s Hearts and Bones, Mirrah Foulkes’ Judy & Punch and Paul Ireland’s Measure for Measure will compete for Australia’s biggest film prize.

Those are the finalists for the $100,000 prize at CinefestOZ, which will run from August 28 to September 1 in Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River and surrounds.

CinefestOZ festival chair Helen Shervington said it had been another stellar year for the film prize entries and this year’s finalists are the cream of the crop.

The prize was established in 2014 to recognise excellence in Australian filmmaking and is awarded on the gala night by a five-member industry jury, this year chaired by director/writer Rachel Ward.

The 16th annual Tribeca Film Festival kicks off this April in New York, and horror fans attending the cinematic gathering have plenty of titles to look forward to, including the world premiere of Mickey Keating's Psychopaths.

One of our favorite films from last year’s Venice Film Festival is making its way to the United States. Hounds of Love, a harrowing debut from Australian director Ben Young, will get its North American premiere at South by Southwest Film Festival before arriving in theaters in May courtesy of Gunpowder & Sky Distribution. Featuring a couple who abducts a young women, the first teaser has now arrived.

We said in our review “director Ben Young’s feature debut is the kind of film you wish you could un-see – except not really. Sure, its extended depictions of physical and psychological abuse will upset/offend many. At the same time, there’s no denying the level of craft and performance involved that probes human depravity so compellingly, you’re left with much more than just rattled nerves and a taste of bile.”

Filming has begun in Far North Queensland and the Torres Straits on Blue Water Empire, the three-part docudrama on the history and culture of the Torres Strait Islands set to air on the ABC next year.

The project, which is now in production in Western Australia, from writer/director, Young and producer Melissa Kelly, is a thriller drawn from a number of infamous local and international crimes.

Supported by Screen Australia and ScreenWest, is also stars Susie Porter, Harrison Gilbertson, Ashleigh Cummings and Damien de Montemas.

McDermott told If he had a look at the rough edit of about 40 per cent of a week.s scenes and was very impressed.

A host of Australian talent have confirmed involvement in the upcoming World War One epic feature film The 34th Battalion. Actors Charles Mesure (Desperate Housewives, V), Luke Hemsworth (Bikie Wars) and Les Hill (Underbelly) are the latest actors to be attached to the project, along with Emilie de Ravin of Lost fame. They join other attached actors Nick Farnell, Clare Van Der Boom, Henry Nixon, Andrew Lees, Vince Colosimo, Ashley Zuckerman, Khan Chittenden, Jake Ryan and Damian de Montemas. Auditions were held across the country in July. Only two spots in the main cast remain unfilled, though producers have said they are .circling a number of high profile actors. to take on the roles. PackScreen has launched the poster for the psychological drama Blame, designed by The Penguin Empire.

The poster was inspired by the work of graphic designer Saul Blass.

Blame will be released on June 16 – it was originally scheduled for a September 2010 release.

The film is Michael Henry’s directorial debut, entirely shot in Western Australia. The producers are Ryan Hodgson, Melissa Kelly and Michael Robinson. Blame stars Damian de Montemas, Sophie Lowe, Kestie Morassi, Simon Stone, Mark Leonard Winter and Ashley Zukerman.

The project was financed by ScreenWest, the Melbourne international Film Festival Premiere Fund, Screen Australia and private investment. The international sales agent is London-based High Point Films.

The psychological drama Blame has been scheduled for a June 16 cinema release in Australia through PackScreen.

The film premiered at last year’s Melbourne International Film Festival, followed by an internationa premiere at Toronto. It has also played in Chicago, and it’s set to screen in Argentina, Denmark, and the inaugural Australian Film Festival in India – an event organised by PackScreen director Peter Castaldi – this week.

Blame was originally scheduled for a September 2010 release. It is Michael Henry’s directorial debut, entirely shot in Western Australia. The producers are Ryan Hodgson, Melissa Kelly and Michael Robinson.

Blame stars Damian de Montemas, Sophie Lowe, Kestie Morassi, Simon Stone, Mark Leonard Winter and Ashley Zukerman.

The Australian psychological drama Blame opened to its first international audience at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday.

Filmed entirely in Western Australia, Blame features an ensemble cast including Underbelly’s Kestie Morassi and Damian de Montemas.

Blame is Michael Henry’s directorial debut. He said: ““It’s amazing to be screening my film at such a prestigious festival such as Toronto. Two of our three screenings have already sold out and the audience tonight was fantastic.”

There are not yet many reviews however the Hollywood Reporter wrote:

The trailer for Michael Henry’s debut film has recently hit the net, and it is ready to ‘Blame’ us for all of its complications. Even though the trailer really isn’t full of complications, it is very suspenseful and looks like a quality Australian thriller.

The movie, as you may have guessed by now, is entitled Blame and is about a ground of friends that try to murder a man out of cold vengeance for something he may or may not have done. For what, we don’t really know, but if you look at him he does come off as a possibly creepy guy with a bad past. The movie stars Damian de Montemas, Ashley Zukerman, Kestie Morassi, Sophie Lowe, Mark Leonard Winter, and Simon Stone.
