Twin sisters Brittany Daniel and Cynthia Daniel Hauser have shared a lot throughout their lives, including their careers — the pair had a run as the Doublemint Twins in the ’90s, appeared in the 1995 Leonardo DiCaprio film The Basketball Diaries together and, most famously, starred as identical twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield for four seasons on Sweet Valley High. But, as the two recalled during the “Fabulous Ladies of the ’90s” panel at 90s Con in Daytona Beach, Florida, they also shared something far more intimate: Cynthia donated eggs to Brittany during her IVF journey. “I went through cancer in my mid 30s, and then I tried to do IVF to retrieve eggs and I wasn’t able to,” said Brittany. “And I told my doctor I have an identical twin sister, and she is extremely fertile. And he was like, ‘What are you doing? Let’s bring her in.'” Cynthia,...

Francine Pascal, the author whose “Sweet Valley High” series of young-adult novels became a cultural touchstone for generations of readers beginning in the 1980s, died Sunday of Lymphoma at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. She was 92.
Her daughter Laurie Wenk-Pascal announced the news to The New York Times.
The first book in the series, Double Love, was published in 1983 — an attempt, Pascal would say, to fill the void in young-adult literature for a Dallas-style soap opera entertainment. Set primarily at a fictional high school in a fictional Los Angeles suburb, the book series initially focused on twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield. As the series grew, eventually to include hundreds of sequels, The Wakefields would age from middle school to college, their adventures encompassing reality-based teen drama and comedy as well as more fantastical doings akin to Nancy Drew and even the Scooby-Doo gang.

Francine Pascal, the author best known for creating hit teen book series “Sweet Valley High,” has died. She was 92.
Pascal died on Sunday in New York, the New York Times reports. The cause of death was lymphoma Pascal’s daughter, Laurie Wenk-Pascal, told the newspaper.
“Sweet Valley High” debuted in 1983 after a friend remarked to Pascal there was no teen version of 1980s soap “Dallas.” Pascal was reportedly inspired to create the series, about blonde Californian twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, immediately. The books went on to spawn hundreds of sequels and spin-offs detailing the twins at different ages, ranging from middle school to college. There were also some wackier books which saw the twins mixed up in murders and even supernatural events.
Only the first 12 books were written by Pascal although she wrote most of the outlines for the others. A TV adaptation of the books ran for four...

A joyless exercise in IP mining, “Cheaper by the Dozen” is all the more depressing for its glimpses of unfulfilled potential.
No one really needed to follow up a 2005 sequel of a 2003 remake of a 1950 adaptation of a 1948 autobiographical novel. But if you’re going to attempt to bring this story into the present day, you couldn’t ask for a better team than director Gail Lerner and writers Kenya Barris and Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry (“Grown-ish”). And who wouldn’t want to see a charmingly practical Gabrielle Union reign over lots of cute kids and a loving — if lackluster — husband played by Zach Braff?
Other than Braff, who isn’t actually supposed to be playing lackluster, it’s hard to say where everything went wrong. Lerner, Barris, and Henry all work primarily in TV, but that shouldn’t have been an unscalable obstacle. Barris co-wrote 2017’s raucous “Girls Trip,” and...

Exclusive: Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who turned the Gossip Girl YA books into a hit series for the CW (and now HBO Max), are bringing another popular YA book series to the screen at the broadcast network. The CW is developing Sweet Valley, a TV series based on the Sweet Valley High books by Francine Pascal. The bestselling novels were previously adapted into the 1994 series Sweet Valley High, which aired in syndication before moving to one of the CW’s predecessors, Upn, for its fourth and final season.
The latest project is a co-production between new ViacomCBS corporate siblings CBS Studios and Paramount TV Studios in what is believed to be the first time the Paramount vault has been mined by the CW.

Talk about some stunning sisters! "Sweet Valley High" alums Brittany Daniel and Cynthia Daniel hit the blue carpet for the premiere of "Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser" in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The twins -- who starred on the beloved series together from 1994-1998 -- looked gorgeous as they posed for pics before heading into the star-studded screening. Brittany, who reprises her role Brandy in the David Spade sequel, stunned in her black halter crop top and a matching high-waisted skirt, while Cynthia looked beautiful wearing a similar baby blue ensemble. While we've rarely seen the 39-year-old actresses at public events together since starring on the show in the '90s, it does sound like the blonde beauties are working on a reboot for the series, which was adapted from Francine Pascal's books of the same name. "There is some talk right now," Brittany told reporters at the premiere.

When I was too old cool for Ramona Quimby’s antics, I moved on to the twin hotties from Francine Pascal's Sweet Valley High, Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield. The woman of funky phrasing -- Diablo Cody -- is gearing up to tackle the teen world's most infamous twins, the two girls many of us 20 and 30-somethings grew up with -- the Wakefields. The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog reports that Universal is currently vying for the rights of Francine Pascal's Sweet Valley High series, which Cody will not only produce, but adapt.
For the uninitiated, there were a whole bunch of books in the Sweet Valley series (started in 1983), allowing young girls to follow blonde twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield through their formative years -- Sweet Valley Kids, Twins, Junior High, High, Senior Year, University... It was all covered, with stories that ranged from the battles between Jessica's wildness and Elizabeth's responsible ways, to side stories like my favorite where the jerky and rich Bruce Patman fell for the sweet, beautiful, and once-deaf Regina Morrow, who then up and died.

Don't worry little sprites, Diablo Cody's career is fully intact and she's taking her quick wit over to Universal as The Hollywood Reporter brings word she is set to adapt Francine Pascal's "Sweet Valley High" series for the big screen. Having grown up in the '80s I am familiar only with the series because it seemed to be a required reading for junior high school girls, but I'm not sure how much farther the reach of the stories went. Borys Kit at THR tells us the books focus on the lives of two teenage girls, Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, who lived in the fictional town of Sweet Valley, California. Jessica was the more conniving and materialistic of the sisters, and usually needed help from the more practical Elizabeth when her schemes went awry. Over 152 stories have been published under the title with more than 60 million copies in print.
