Neon is climbing into the passenger seat of Michael Mann’s Ferrari, a new film from the celebrated director starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz. Ferrari looks to premiere at the Venice Film Festival at the end of August, with Neon acquiring the rights in North America in a competitive situation. According to Deadline, Ferrari is racing into theaters on Christmas Day 2023. STX Entertainment, who helped get the film onto the pavement, is actively involved with all the Neon negotiations (which are still being determined as of this posting). Michael Butler, the Tony-winning producer who brought Hair to Broadway in 1968 and later produced the film adaptation and many other productions of the show, died Monday in Santa Barbara. He was 95.

Driver, on set in Modena, Italy, for the biopic shoot, appears as the sunglass-wearing founder of the Ferrari race car team and also in preparation for the infamous Mille Miglia race. Set in 1957, Ferrari sees the race car maker facing bankruptcy and a tempestuous marriage with his wife, Laura, who is played by Penélope Cruz.

Amid that crisis, Ferrari and his team of drivers roll the dice on one race — 1,000 miles across Italy, in the Mille Miglia. Woodley takes on the role of Lina Lardi, Enzo’s mistress; Patrick Dempsey is race car driver Piero Taruffi; Jack O’Connell is fellow driver Peter Collins; Sarah Gadon plays Linda Christian; and Gabriel Leone is the charismatic Fon de Portago.

2022 has already been a big year for Michael Mann, between the release of the pilot for "Tokyo Vice" — which marked Mann's first time back in the director's chair since his 2015 cyber-crime thriller "Blackhat" — and the arrival of his "Heat 2" novel. Now comes word that Mann has officially started shooting "Ferrari," a biopic about the titular Italian motor racing giant its director has been planning for a long time. And I mean a long time.

How long? "Ferrari" is based on a script co-credited to Troy Kennedy Martin, the late writer of the 1969 version of "The Italian Job" and "Kelly's Heroes," who passed away in 2009. It's a movie Mann has spent the good part of two decades trying to make a reality, during which time the film's original would-be leading man, Christian Bale, went and starred in another movie with the word "Ferrari" in its title, "Ford v Ferrari," while Mann's biopic spun its wheels.

Production for Ferrari, the newest feature film from four-time Academy Award nominee Michael Mann, has started production in Italy this week. Chicago – The remarkable photography in Francesco Rosi’s 1965 bullfighting drama is, alas, its sole redeeming feature. Nearly everything that unfolds in front of Rosi’s lens is flat-out appalling and borderline unwatchable. Critics have hailed the picture for its artful depiction of the action, but all I see is vicious animal cruelty cloaked in crowd-pleasing machismo.

Rosi is, of course, a celebrated Italian filmmaker who’s no stranger to controversy, and his gambles have often paid off tremendously in films such as 1962’s “Salvatore Giuliano” and 1972’s Palme d’Or-winner, “The Mattei Affair.” I don’t believe Rosi was attempting to glorify bullfighting in “Truth,” but aside from its appropriately cautionary finale, the film devolves into a repellent series of ritual slaughters that are as numbing as they are repellant.

"TCM Remembers 2011" is out. Remembered by Turner Classic Movies are many of those in the film world who left us this past year. As always, this latest "TCM Remembers" entry is a classy, immensely moving compilation. The haunting background song is "Before You Go," by Ok Sweetheart.

Her celebrity came from her marriages to the handsome film stars Tyrone Power and Edmund Purdom, and her liaisons with various wealthy playboys and bullfighters, rather than her somewhat limited acting ability.

Christian's extravagant, cosmopolitan lifestyle derived from her stunning beauty – she was dubbed "The Anatomic Bomb" by Life magazine – and her ability to speak fluent French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and English. She was born Blanca Rosa Welter in Tampico, Mexico, the daughter of a Dutch executive at Shell, and his Mexican-born wife of Spanish, German and French descent. As the family moved around a great deal, living in South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, she gained a taste for globetrotting.

Linda Christian, the Hollywood bombshell who became the first-ever Bond Girl in the 1954 TV adaptation of 'Casino Royale,' has died. According to a report in People, the actress lost her battle with colon cancer over the weekend at the age of 87.

Christian, born in Mexico as Blanca Rosa Welter in 1924, was discovered by Errol Flynn, and later married Hollywood leading man Tyrone Power in 1949. The couple had two children before their divorce in 1956.

The 'Casino Royale' TV adaptation aired on CBS as part of the drama anthology 'Climax!' In it, Christian starred as Valerie Mathis, the romantic interest of Barry Nelson, who played an early incarnation of the iconic British spy.

Ian Fleming's series was then in such an early stage of development that the 007 character went by the name of 'Jimmy.'

The actress passed away on Friday in Palm Desert, California after a battle with colon cancer.

Born Blanca Rosa Welter in Mexico, the star moved to Los Angeles after a chance meeting with Australian icon Errol Flynn, who convinced her to try acting.

She made her film debut alongside Danny Kaye in the 1944 musical Up In Arms, before playing Mara in Tarzan and The Mermaids.

In 1954, she landed the role of James Bond's love interest in a TV adaptation of the novel Casino Royale, becoming the first ever Bond girl and paving the way for future 007 sidekicks including Halle Berry and Ursula Andress.

She married Hollywood heartthrob Tyrone Power in 1949 but the couple divorced in 1956.

Christian is survived by her daughter Romina Power and eight grandchildren, according to the Associated Press.

British character actor famed for his roles in The Student Prince and The Egyptian

It was the sad fate of the actor Edmund Purdom, who has died aged 84, that the best known of his films, The Student Prince (1954), is remembered more for the star who wasn't in it. After the temperamental tenor Mario Lanza was fired from the film, the non-singing unknown Purdom replaced him. Luckily for MGM, Lanza had recorded the songs for the CinemaScope production before shooting began. Thus his voice is heard bellowing incongruously out of the slender frame of Purdom.

Purdom's reputation as a surrogate is underlined by the fact that he got his first chance of stardom when he replaced Marlon Brando in The Egyptian (1954) after Brando wisely cried off, preferring to play Napoleon in Desirée instead. In addition, Purdom was married to Linda Christian, better known as Tyrone Power's first wife.

British actor Edmund Purdom has died in Italy. He was 82.

The star, best known for his title role in 1954 Hollywood blockbuster The Egyptian, passed away in Rome on Thursday.

Further details about his death were not released as WENN went to press.

Purdom's most famous films included 1954's Athena, opposite his future wife Linda Christian, and The Prodigal in 1955.

The actor was married four times and is survived by his wife Vivienne and two children.
