- R&B singer and songwriter. He began performing professionally at age 17, and got his break playing guitar in Little Richard's band in the early 1970s. He played in various bar bands in Los Angeles before landing a solo record contract.
- He grew up in Miami, Florida. His parents, Carolyn Hunter and Robert Edward Caldwell, were singers who hosted a musical variety TV show called "Suppertime".
- Survived by his wife, three children Lauren, Tessa, stepdaughter, Katie Moriarty, and two grandchildren.
- Brother of Lisa Caldwell.
