Viewers witnessed a tearful moment for Today host Savannah Guthrie in her return to the show after a brief absence.
She appeared on NBC’s morning program last week and had what some deemed a “disrespectful” segment with Today guest Kelly Rowland.
Rowland later stormed off the show due to rumors she and her team felt the dressing rooms weren’t adequate.
The singer and actress were there to promote her newest movie, Mea Culpa, and she was also scheduled to guest host with Hoda Kotb for part of Today’s lineup. Since Rowland took off, Hoda was left scrambling to find another co-host.
Meanwhile, Savannah stepped away from the show to promote her newest book, Mostly What God Does. That included an absence last week and again on Monday.
During her return this week, she fought back tears while opening up about her book.

Two women are dead and several others are injured after being trampled Sunday night following GloRilla’s concert at the Main Street Armory in Rochester, New York.
According to multiple reports, police Monday afternoon identified one woman killed by the stampede of concert-goers as Rhondesia Belton, 33, of Buffalo. The second woman who died was said to have been 35.
Just after 11:00 p.m. Sunday, concert-goers were leaving the venue following the show, which featured musicians GloRilla and Finesse2Tymes, when, per Rochester Police Chief David Smith, the crowd started to surge and rush toward the exit. There were reports of individuals hearing what they believed to be gunshots inside the venue, “causing the crowd to panic,” he said.
Smith said there was no evidence that anyone fired a gun inside the venue, or that anyone at the venue was shot or stabbed. The injuries, Smith said, “were caused from being trampled.

It’s become fashionable in some circles this week to denounce the newly buried George. H.W. Bush as a war criminal, but that seems gratuitous. After all, from a technical standpoint, what American president isn’t a war criminal? It’s probably a short list.
Thanks to the invasion(s) of Iraq, the bombing of civilians in places like Cambodia and Laos, Guantanamo Bay/torture, the overthrow of numerous democratically elected foreign regime, and support of repressive states like Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, “war criminal” is kind of a...

President George H.W. Bush was buried on Thursday next to his wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush, at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas. The elder President Bush died on Friday night at the age of 94 due to Parkinson's disease. He occupied the White House from 1989-1993, only to have his son George W. Bush move in a few years later in 2001 as the 43rd president. Bush's body arrived back in Texas Wednesday night after landing in Washington, D.C. on Monday. His casket lain in state at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda starting on Tuesday where many people paid their respects to the 41st president, including his former service dog, Sully. Washington, D.C. — It was a celebration of a broad spectrum of American music — from country and jazz to musical theater and modern minimalism — at the 41 annual Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday.
That’s when the nation’s capital paused from its political concerns to toast eight showbiz titans for excellence: Superstar multi-hyphenates Cher and Reba McEntire, along with composer/pianist Philip Glass, and jazz saxophonist/composer Wayne Shorter. Tapped for a special honor was the creative quartet behind the musical “Hamilton” – writer and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler and music director Alex Lacamoire.
President Donald Trump declined to attend the event for the second straight year or host the traditional pre-gala reception for honorees at the White House. The decision, while breaking with longstanding tradition, was announced earlier and was met without visible dissent since Trump’s presence would have overshadowed the event, if not impacted it directly.

Well, this is awkward! First Lady Melania Trump is celebrating her 49th birthday today, Thursday, April 26, but her husband, President Donald Trump, just sadly admitted he didn't get her anything for her special day. When asked during a new interview what gift he got Melania for her birthday the Potus replied, "Well, I better not get into that because I may get in trouble. Maybe I didn’t get her so much." He continued, "I tell you what, she has done — I got her a beautiful card. You know, I’m very busy to be running out looking for presents, okay! But I got her a beautiful card and some beautiful flowers and she did a fantastic job with [our State Dinner for] France." (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Though Donald, 71, confessed he dropped the ball on getting his wife a birthday gift, he did remember to wish her a great day during his Fox & Friends chat.

For Barbara Bush, family always came first. "She didn’t come off as a first lady but as a loving, caring mother," friend Brad Meltzer exclusively tells Closer. "She told me to read to my children at night — it wasn’t about the book, but holding the kids on your lap and loving them. She was a truly incredible mother and grandmother." When Barbara died at age 92 on April 17, she left a unique legacy: She was the better half of the longest presidential marriage in history, having been wed to George H.W. Bush for 73 years, and she was also the mother of President George W. Bush. Thanks to Barbara’s steely spine, wry one-liners and plainspoken style, Americans cherished her as much as her family did. "I always knew Barbara was the most beloved woman in the world, and in fact I used to tease her that I had a complex about that fact.

Shania gave Trump her vote in an interview with The Guardian posted online on Sunday, April 22. "I would have voted for him because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest," she said. "Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn't be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don't want bull--t. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. “We all circled around him and Barbara for a photo, and I was right next to him,” Grolnick told Deadspin. “He reached his right hand around to my behind, and as we smiled for the photo he asked the group, ‘Do you want to know who my favorite magician is?’ As I felt his hand dig into my flesh, he said, ‘David Cop-a-Feel!’”

While co-hosting with Kathie Lee Gifford on the Today Show Monday, Jenna Bush Hager revealed her grandma only has eight toes. The two ladies were chatting about the importance of taking your shoes off at home (or in someone else's home) and how that could be offensive for someone with ugly feet. That's when Jenna blurted out, "Do you want to know the truth? My grandma's missing a toe on each foot," she said, holding back a laugh. "She's missing a toe on each foot." Of course, Kathie Lee couldn't help but ask, "Has she ever divulged that?" Jenna...

Former President George W. Bush‘s wife has served as the subject of one of his famous paintings – a piece that’s never been seen for a reason: “It’s in the closet.”
The former president and his wife, Laura Bush, tell People in this week’s issue that his portrait of her wasn’t much of a hit. “After I changed it four different times – I don’t like this expression or that expression – I finally said I’m through,” the 70-year-old says.

Sunday's Super Bowl will begin with a coin toss, like every NFL game that came before it this season. But the coin toss at the Super Bowl is entirely different than any other game. For one, gamblers actually bet on the toss. And two, the person flipping the coin isn't usually a referee.
On Wednesday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell revealed who will flip the coin at Super Bowl Li. That honor belongs to the 41st President of the United States, George H.W. Bush, and the former First Lady, Barbara Bush.
