Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans is the long-awaited feature film version of the infamous British television show of the same name. The first of presumably many spin-offs, Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans focuses on as the title description states the Romans. The film follows Atti (Sebastian Croft) who gets into trouble with the new emperor Nero (Craig Roberts) and as punishment is sent to Britain, Aka the Stain. Atti is soon taken captive by Orla (Emilia Jones), a young wannabe warrior, while in the background the rise of Boudicca (Kate Nash) against the Romans begins.

Homework for Dominic Brigstocke, the director of “Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans,” included watching Monty Python and speaking to “Blackadder” co-creator Richard Curtis as he and the team went about taking a hit kids’ show from the small to big screen.
“There’s a great tradition of the British making fun of their history,” Brigstocke said. “We looked at various other comedy version of history, including ‘Monty Python’s The Life of Brian.’ It was some of the scenes out of that that helped us realize how you can adapt sketch comedy to [film] and tell jokes about history.”
Brigstocke noted a number of nods to Python in his film, which comes 50 years after the famous comedy troupe was formed and premieres in the U.K. on Thursday. “The stoning in ‘Life of Brian’ was one of the inspiring scenes where you learned quite a lot about Roman history –that...

Production is under way on Altitude Film Entertainment and Citrus Films’ family movie Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans, based on the popular children’s book series by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown.
Shooting now on location in the UK and Bulgaria, the film will cast the antics of the Roman Empire in a comedic light. It will follow Atti, a Roman teenager with brains but very little brawn. When one of his clever schemes falls foul of Emperor Nero, he is forced to join the army and is sent to miserable, cold, wet Britain where the natives are revolting – quite literally. Things go from bad to worse when Atti is captured by Orla, a feisty teenage Celt desperate to prove herself as a warrior.
Dominic Brigstocke, director of the TV version of the series, will make his feature directorial debut. Script comes from Jessica Swale together with Giles Pilbrow and Caroline Norris.

Since the medium’s infancy, viewers have enjoyed sharing holidays with their favourite television characters. We grow invested in our friends on screen over the years; spending Christmas with them is a rite of passage, a chance for us to share tradition from our world with the fictional ones we see on screen. Some shows embrace the season wholeheartedly, characters in good spirits and enjoying the trappings of the season; others skew a little darker, bringing the more oppressive, burdensome side of the holidays to life. Either way, Christmas episodes tend to demonstrate the strengths of our favourite series, and it’s long been a festive ritual of mine to wheel out old...

Viacom International Media Networks has announced multi-camera sitcom development projects Operation Slut and Medics for Comedy Central.
An agreement has been signed with Tom Edge to adapt Operation Slut, while a pilot for Medics has been green lit to shoot next month.
"Medics is a laugh-out-loud sitcom that perfectly combines adolescent humour with fast-paced drama while Operation Slut is a hilarious satire of modern-day relationships - both of which sit perfectly within our channel portfolio," said by Jill Offman, managing director of Comedy Central UK and senior vice president of international content at Comedy Central.
Operation Slut was originally written by Taii K. Austin (Underemployed, Nurse Jackie, Scrubs, Ugly Betty) and will be adapted by British writer Edge (Pramface, Threesome, The Midnight Beast) for international broadcast.
The show is about 30-year-old marriage-focused "neurotic do-gooder" Ivy who on being proposed to is not ready to settle down, and instead embarks on...
