Joined the National Youth Theatre at age 16 and later trained at the Rose Bruford College before doing rep in Lancashire.

Made his professional debut, aged 13, in Benjamin Britten's "The Turn of the Screw".

Co-founded the Paines Plough Theatre Company and has worked with the RSC and National Theatre.
