A former San Francisco stockbroker, Barbara Boxer was elected as a
Democrat to the U.S. Senate in 1992, the so-called "Year of the Woman"
in Congressional elections. Prior to her Senate election, she was a
congresswoman in the U.S. House of Representatives.
