"I'm trying to help them, but it's like a brick wall." Netflix has debuted a trailer for an upbeat dance comedy titled Feel the Beat, from director Elissa Down. Feel the Beat stars actress / dancer Sofia Carson (from "Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists" and Disney Channel shows) as April. After blowing a big Broadway audition, a self-centered dancer reluctantly returns home and ends up coaching a squad of young misfits for a big competition. The full cast includes Enrico Colantoni, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Dennis Andres, Wolfgang Novogratz, Donna Lynne Champlin, Brandon Kyle Goodman, Rex Lee, and Marcia Bennett. This seems a bit like School of Rock but for dance. Have fun. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Elissa Down's Feel the Beat, direc from Netflix's YouTube: After failing to find success on Broadway, April (Sofia Carson) returns to her hometown and reluctantly is recruited to help train a misfit...

Of all the voices in horror that have sprung up in the 2000s, Edward “Lucky” McKee is probably my favorite. His films are so uniquely his own in the way that they combine strong character work, dreamlike visuals, dark humor, pop music, and a specific attention to female protagonists and relationships; it’s an alchemy that’s hard to pinpoint, but which has a direct line to my brain and affects me in the way no one else’s work does. Both May and The Woman are, in my opinion, two of the best horror movies of the last 20 years and films no one else could have made. The same can be said of “Sick Girl,” his entry for Season 1 of Masters of Horror. While he’s the greenest of all the Masters thus far, his episode is also the purest extension of an authorial voice in the whole series.

The Woman will be available on DVD/Blu-ray and VOD January 24, 2012. The Woman is gruesome horror with uncomfortably vicious themes wrapped in a nonchalant commentary about keeping the ‘little woman’ under control. This is a film you will want to add to your DVD collection and will most likely make my best horror movies of 2011 list. The Woman is directed and written by Lucky McKee (May, Red) and stars Carlee Baker (Wicked Lake), Shana Barry (Getting’ It), Marcia Bennett (Red), Angela Bettis (Carrie, May), and Sean Bridgers (Deadwood).

The Woman has generated some controversy based on its misogynistic tones and scenes of torture. Early reviews from major news sources have called the film "an hour and a half of brutal misogyny" (Reporter) and "devoid of wit, flair and thematic focus" (Variety). However, most critics agree that the film is out to shock and there is often an audience for films that will push boundaries. The Woman will premiere in the United Kingdom August 27th and North America October 14th.
Part of the premise for The Woman is this focus on a feral person captured in the wild. Strangely, this is not an uncommon occurrence, with hundreds of stories of feral people being found in jungles and forests locally and abroad. Recently, there was a report of a Cambodian woman found malnourished and partially naked in Rattanakiri Prov. (2007). Her speech was imparied and her ability to socialize was diminished.

Bloody Disgusting Selects have released the official Us poster for The Woman.
Directed by Lucky McKee (The Woods), The Woman stars Carlee Baker, Shana Barry, Marcia Bennett, Angela Bettis, Sean Bridgers and Lauren Ashley Carter.
The Woman is the last surviving member of a feral clan that has roamed the Northeast Coast for decades. When the last of her family is killed in a battle with the police, The Woman finds herself alone, severely wounded and vulnerable. Unfortunately, she is now a far too easy prey for local hunter, successful country lawyer and seriously disturbed family man Christopher Cleek. With his twisted set of ideals, Cleek decides to embark upon a deranged project – to capture her and “break” The Woman – a decision that will soon threaten the lives of Cleek, his family and The Woman.
The Woman premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to rave reviews, and will receive its U.
