She studied drama at HB Studio in Greenwich Village in New York City.
She made guest appearances on both of the longest running prime time dramas in US television history: Gunsmoke (1955) and Law & Order (1990).
She was awarded the 1969 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Distinguished Performance in the play, "The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God" at the Mark Taper Forum Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
