Everyone has their own unique choice for the best Stephen King movie — but what's the worst?
Before Stephen King became a best selling millionaire novelist, he scratched by a meager living selling short stories on the side. Some of those early short stories appeared in the University of Maine literary journal "Ubris," but King finally made one of his first professional sales with "Graveyard Shift," a horror story purchased and published by the magazine "Cavalier" in 1970. The story would later end up in King's well-loved short story collection "Night Shift," a book that served as a kind of gateway drug to budding King fans. And as long as there have been Stephen King books there have been Stephen King movies — his 1974 debut novel "Carrie" was adapted to the screen by 1976. From there, Hollywood was off and running, bring King's work to the movies left and right.

80s sci-fi romance Cherry 2000 was set in the year 2017, but how close was it to envisioning society as it is today?
This article contains spoilers about Cherry 2000…

This film promised to be the height of 80s futuristic sci-fi hedonism - explosions, hot sex robots, outlandish stunts, apocalyptic gunfights and Melanie Griffith taking her top off again.
Did it deliver? Kinda, but in order to establish why the movie failed to ignite the masses, we’ll need to rewind a little further back in time and teleport to a little place full of glitz, glamour and showbusiness called Hollywood,...

Also, the Case of the Week was pretty well-crafted.

*there are spoilers here. Director: Kevin Greutert. Writer: Robert Ben Garant. Cast: Sarah Snook, Joelle Carter, Mark Webber, David Andrews and Ana de la Reguera. Jessabelle is a supernatural thriller. This title was recently released through video-on-demand, by Blumhouse Production. Lacking in any true horror, the film offers a great setting, but a mundane tone. Thrills are relegated to a few fight scenes as the protagonist does her best to uncover a long buried family secret. Her digging uncovers several tropes, with the film moving towards a predictable conclusion. Jessabelle is a very watered down thriller, which will satisfy few. The story begins with tragedy. Jessabelle (Sarah Snook) is ready to start a family, with her boyfriend and new baby. A speeding semi, in a residential area, puts her dreams to rest, permanently. Jessabelle is forced to stay with her father, in a remote mansion. Here, she begins to see strange visions,...

Ring Her Bell: Greutert Steps Outside Franchise For Promising Results
Considering that Jessabelle is directed by editor and eventual director of two Saw films, Kevin Greutert (he got credit for six and straight-to-dvd release number seven), his first foray outside of schlock genre isn’t the torporific eyesore one might have predicted. Written by Robert Ben Garant, better known as Deputy Travis Junior from the series “Reno 911!,” the film manages enough general interest to keep us wondering what will happen to its protagonist, even though it’s lack of tension and absence of thrills racks up quite a bit of dismay. Though a pleasantly peculiar finale at last breaks free of its quagmire of cliché, it can’t quite make up for the inert build-up, as well as a handful of illogical details that annul any of the film’s more successful moments.

Jessabelle is a bit of an odd experience, blending a fangless voodoo fantasy with some seriously unnerving scares about inner-demons going bump in the night. While such an imbalance might not sound completely unheard of, the seamless way Reno 911! prankster Robert Ben Garant scripts this Southern spooker manages to polish rougher edges with invasive psychological horror that’s surprisingly nightmare-worthy. Even with director Kevin Greutert’s horror experience coming from the overly-gory Saw franchise – specifically the final two splatterfests – Jessabelle remains solely story-driven thanks to atmospheric haunted house tropes, not distracting, stomach-churning gore. Isn’t it nice when horror movies respect their audience and take time to craft white-knuckle scares worthy of a few less hours of sleep, instead of Ouija-like backhanded scare tactics?

Arrow in the Head have managed to score a trio of new exclusive stills from Kevin Greutert's ('Saw 3D') upcoming thriller 'Jessabelle'. I must say, after October last year went pretty much horror free (Insidious: Chapter 2 came out mid-September), 2014 has its fair share of horror including The Conjuring prequel Annabelle, board game horror Ouija, Harry Potter horror Horns, CG Dracula horror in Dracula Untold and now Kevin Greutert's (Saw 3D, Saw VI) Jessabelle. Just today Lionsgate moved Jessabelle from a late August release to November 7. The film follows the title character (Sarah Snook), a young woman returning to her childhood home in Louisiana to recuperate from a horrific car accident when she comes face to face with a long-tormented spirit that has been seeking her return -- and has no intention of letting her escape. Yesterday we saw the trailer for a new horror flick called As Above, So Below and today we have a look at yet another new genre pic called Jessabelle. Starring Sarah Snook, Mark Webber, David Andrews, and Joelle Carter, Jessebelle is jam-packed with every horror trick in the book, making it a kind of roll-up of tropes, including the mirror scare, shadow scare, bathtub scare, death of a loved one scare (times two!), wheelchair scare, loud noises scare, and even the videotape scare. Jason Blum’s micro-budgeted approach to horror has paid off tremendously for his Blumhouse Productions over the past few years, thanks to the gargantuan success of the Paranormal Activity and Insidious series, in addition to films like Sinister and The Purge, two stand-alones so profitable that both have sequels in the works.
This summer, Blum will unveil his latest frightfest, Jessabelle, in hopes of launching yet another lucrative franchise. Now, the first trailer for that film has landed, and you can check it out below:
There’s nothing wholly unfamiliar about the premise for Jessabelle; following a terrible car crash which leaves her without the use of her legs, the title character returns to her father’s home in Louisiana and uncovers horrific tapes left by her late mother. Crisis could be NBC’s answer to a procedural hit.
Why? The show is backed by a high-caliber cast, some interesting twists, and enough potential storytelling to twist itself into something really explosive. Granted, none of that guarantees any success, but I will admit to being more involved than I expected to be, given the reveals of the first episode. Last year we ran a schedule of every TV/Cable network schedule we could find that could be construed as Horror or Halloween related for the month of October. Let’s just say it proved useful for our readers and even for our staff when they were looking to find something to watch, wanted to program their DVR’s or didn’t want to miss out on some great “live” Horror. Isn’t there something about having a movie fed to you on TV as opposed to watching it on Blu-ray or DVD or streaming? We may not like commercials, but the randomness that you can associate with a TV program itinerary is novel. It removes a little bit of control from the audience who is all to concerned with being in control these days (just look at the reasons behind publishing a piece like this).

The film's action begins shortly after the events of 11 September 2001. Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts) and her husband, the former ambassador Joe Wilson (Sean Penn), host Washington dinner parties. Obviously, no one knows Plame is a CIA agent. She pretends to be a run-of-the-mill venture capitalist, smiles sweetly and serves pudding. Her guests spout ever sillier opinions about the war on terror; she must remain silent and composed.

People
The film's action begins shortly after the events of 11 September 2001.
