They say a friend in need is a friend indeed, and this couldn’t be truer for Sandra Bullock and Samantha Mathis. Have you ever wondered how deep the roots of friendship can grow in the world of Hollywood, where authenticity is a rare gem?

What these actresses have isn’t just any friendship; it’s an extended family dynamic. When River Phoenix, Mathis’ boyfriend and a beloved star, tragically passed away in 1993, it was undeniably one of the “scariest experiences” in Bullock’s life. Yet during those dark days, the latter’s sympathy and unflagging support provided a silver lining, mirroring her extraordinary empathy and deep bond with Mathis.

A variety of factors — including a “pissing contest” between CBS CEO Les Moonves and a rival exec — led to the arrested development of CBS Beverly Hills Cop TV series back in 2013, director Barry Sonnenfeld detailed in a recent SlashFilm podcast.

Stephen King is continuing to campaign for the Paramount+ series Evil to make its return from the dead.
After recently giving the show his overwhelming seal of approval, the literary icon demanded the streaming platform renew the supernatural procedural that recently ended after four seasons.
“Dear Paramount+: More Evil, please,” King wrote Sunday on X, to which star Katja Herbers responded, “From the bottom of our Evil hearts, thank you!!!”
The online exchange comes after Herbers previously shared a video this week of King praising the show in a PBS News interview. “There’s a show called Evil on Paramount+ that I like,” he said in the clip. “It’s great. It’s funny and it’s witty and it’s very, very sharp.”

A priest, a psychologist, and a scientist... It may sound like the start of a joke, but it’s the unstoppable trio at the heart of Michelle and Robert King's Evil. Originally debuting on CBS in 2019 before transitioning to Paramount+ for subsequent seasons, the show has delivered one of the most gripping horror thrillers of recent years. When the decision was made to cancel the series, the creators crafted an additional four episodes, ensuring that fans received the finale they deserved—and what a finale it was!
Season 4 proved just as absorbing, intense, and twisted as its predecessors. The creators didn’t ease off the gas; instead, they treated viewers to one of the best seasons yet, delivering justice not just to the lead characters but to the supporting ensemble as well. This article contains spoilers for Evil season 4 episode 14.
The title of Evil season 4 episode 14, “Fear of the End”* has a double meaning. It seems very likely the clocks will tick out on Father David Acosta (Mike Colter), Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi), as well as much of the ecclesiastical order, by the finale’s end. For fans who didn’t skip past the theme song, for old time’s sake, it also means Evil was much too short-lived a series. Creators and showrunners Robert and Michelle King are to be mourned. “Fear of the End” concludes as a finale, but feels like a death. There is more story to tell, and the final episode is littered with possibilities.
Note: The final four episodes of Evil season 4 technically constitute a “mini” fifth and final season for the show per Paramount+. But the cast and crew have...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details about the Evil series finale “Fear of the End,” which dropped this morning on Paramount+
In the end, Evil truly brought evil to the heart of the Catholic church with a potential Antichrist baby now being wheeled around the sunny Vatican by its mother Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) and its priestly guardian of sorts David Acosta (Mike Colter).
Talk about going dark.
“The punchline at the end, is this kid possibly, or probably, is the Antichrist, and Lexis (Maddy Crocco), the second youngest, is probably going to be this evil protector to him,” says Evil co-creator and finale director Robert King of the fanged and white-eyed baby staring up at his mother. “Then it comes down to Kristen, who’s always mother first to protect those two, and actually probably to the detriment of humankind, but to the benefit of her family, which is just comic to us.

The age of streaming is full of problems. TV shows are getting extremely expensive, seasons are getting too short while the wait between them becomes too long, and shows are getting canceled before they have a chance to hit their groove. Even when shows are successful according to every metric, they can get canceled just for reasons that have nothing to do with their quality, like corporate cost-cutting.
Such is the case with "Evil," the best horror TV show since "Hannibal" and "The Exorcist." It's a series that mixes network procedurals with all-time great tales of the macabre, giving audiences monster-of-the-week stories that not only feature some of the best creature work on TV, but also tell poignant stories about the hell of modern existence and how the devil can't compare to the evil of the internet and late-stage capitalism. “I am hell bent on bringing Leland down,” says Katja Herbers, speaking as psychologist, mom, and sometime exorcist Dr. Kristen Bouchard, as the philosophical horror/comedy/drama Evil approaches its final two intense—and scary—episodes. Who can blame her? Leland (a mesmerizing Michael Emerson), a former “Friend of the Vatican” turned Devil’s disciple, destroyed Kristen’s marriage, killed her mother (and his onetime acolyte) Sheryl (Christine Lahti), tried to murder one of her daughters, and after fertilizing Kristen’s stolen egg, created a possible baby Antichrist! Despite her anger and worries, Kristen eventually took in baby Timothy, whom she never believed was the Antichrist, after he was secretly baptized by, of all people, the unbeliever Sheryl. So far, her natural mothering instinct seem to be winning. “She can’t help but probably love the child,” the actress says, as do her adoring four daughters. TV Insider was lucky...

But at least we got those, so Evil gets a proper wrap-up—especially considering what happened in the 10th episode of Season 4! His trial is coming, with Richard Kind and John Carroll Lynch guest starring as the judge and his lawyer, respectively, and Danny Burstein returning, as TV Insider previously exclusively revealed. But that’s not all that’s coming up. Below, get scoop from the stars on what to expect in the final four episodes of Evil. 1. It seems like there can’t be a truly happily ever after for Kristen (Katja Herbers) and David (Mike Colter)—she’s married, he’s a priest—on Evil, but with the show coming to an end with just the four bonus episodes left, might there be a solution somehow that makes everyone happy? After all, yes, Kristen is married, but she is once again raising the four girls by herself; her husband Andy (Patrick Brammall), due to what Leland (Michael Emerson) and Sheryl (Christine Lahti) have done to him, is in a psychiatric hospital. And while Sheryl, before her death, did clue Kristen in on what Leland was doing in that back room in his apartment—which then led to his arrest—she doesn’t know that her husband was one of the victims. Right now, Kristen is “compartmentalizing a lot just to be able to function,” raising four children and doing her job,...

[This story contains major spoilers from the tenth episode of Evil season four, “How to Survive a Storm.”]
There are few mother-daughter relationships in recent TV history as complicated as that the one played out between Christine Lahti and Katja Herbers during the last four seasons of Evil.
Lahti’s Sheryl, originally comic relief in the supernatural drama as the dippy babysitter to her grandchildren, became increasingly at odds with Herbers’ Kristen — on account of Sheryl’s personal and professional relationship with the series’ de facto villain: Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson). The shit really hit the fan when Kristen found out her mom was involved in a demonic IVF scheme, one in which Kristen’s stolen egg was fertilized with Leland’s sperm to bring forth the antichrist. (Ugh, moms!)
It would have been a lot to come back from, so, naturally, they never did. Sheryl died during the July 25 episode “How to Survive a Storm,” potentially earning some redemption...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Evil Season 4 Episode 10 “How to Survive a Storm.”] “I think it was the best season for Sheryl by far,” says Christine Lahti. And it was, but Evil Season 4 was also a heartbreaking one. Sheryl tried to kill Leland (Michael Emerson), only for it to backfire on her—she wasn’t expecting him to have a demonic henchman there to knock her out after she drugged him. A “fall” from a fourth-floor balcony landed her in the hospital, and she died from her injuries. But she did manage to take down Leland in another way—she left a video with Kristen (Katja Herbers) showing the back room in his apartment where he drained victims, leading to his arrest. “It was such a fun season for me,” Lahti tells TV Insider. “I got so much to do, and leading up to my demise, I think the Kings wanted the audience to really care about Sheryl, ...

Christine Lahti had a compelling but tragic arc as Sonya Paxton on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. As a recurring character who was outspoken, not afraid to butt heads with those she disagreed with on both sides of the law, and was part of some iconic scenes, it seems odd that her time on the show was so short.
Between 2009 and 2011, Lahti appeared in just seven episodes, with her character forced off-screen for a period of time while she was in rehab recovering from alcoholism.
Why was Sonya Paxton killed off?
Sonya Paxton was portrayed as a no-nonsense, uncompassionate Ada who unfortunately had a drinking problem. After appearing in court drunk, she was placed under a court order to overcome her addiction before returning to work.

While we got a little of Sheryl and Leland, we got a whole lot of Kristen's family, as a demonic portal was discovered in their basement -- and that's just the beginning.
Let's hash it out!
Sheryl and Leland Continue the War of the Roses
At the end of Evil Season 4 Episode 6, Leland walks in to find Sheryl's message scrawled in blood. What we don't see is that she is seated next to that message with a huge butcher's knife.

He broke her one rule -- never touch her granddaughters. If he did, she'd cut his dick off. Did she do it? Did she really cut off his package in retaliation? We weren't so lucky as to experience that.
But the two fought quite admirably, drawing blood and landing Sheryl in the hospital.

I watch a lot of horror films, but movies and television shows about possessions are what really scare and intrigue me. Evil, a series by Michelle and Robert King, not only discusses the topic of possessions, but also explores the matters of grief and corruption. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Evil Season 4 Episode 2 “How to Train a Dog.”] Let’s just say that we have a feeling Sheryl (Christine Lahti) wants to take Leland (Michael Emerson) down even more than ever before after the latest Evil episode. Sheryl tries to gain some footing at work, but it’s run by a misogynistic board of men and demons, so that’s easier said than done. When she speaks up in a meeting, offering up her connection as Kristen’s (Katja Herbers) mother—the biological mother of the Antichrist— Leland shuts her down; the board doesn’t like hearing from women because they consider them to be weak. He suggests she prove herself by getting Greg Bruni (Danny Mastrogiorgio) in line, with the demon inside him starting to peep through. She does just that by cutting his finger off. She delivers it to the Manager, but even that’s not enough to get a promotion.

Evil Season 4 Episode 2 ratcheted up the tension as many of our favorite characters found themselves distressed.
Some kicked ass, like Sheryl, and some fell into a blubbering heap, like Andy. Either way, there's a lot to digest, as we are only a mere 12 episodes away from the finale.
Although "How to Train a Werewolf" began with a supernatural bent, science won this time out.
Every season has a theme, and the pop-up book at the beginning of the credits (which began 17 minutes into the episode) is The Big Pop-Up Book of Science.
This makes me wonder if they'll tie the whole series together with a scientific explanation for everything before the end. That would be a satisfying series conclusion, if somewhat disappointing.

One of the best, and rarest, feelings one can experience as a TV viewer is to watch a show and get the distinct feeling that its creators are getting away with something. That they're pushing buttons that someone asked them to avoid. That they're crafting imagery that's going to haunt and unsettle. That they're using a medium commonly associated with comfort and passivity to infuriate, baffle, and intrigue.
And across its four seasons, "Evil" has always felt just like that. Its first season, which aired on CBS, was a "Hannibal"-sized middle finger to decency and typical television sensibilities (that should be read as high praise). Later seasons moved to Paramount+, where the streaming wild west allowed showrunners Robert and Michelle King to really let their freak flag fly. The duo best known for "The Good Wife" were allowed to take every rule they learned while crafting a reliable network...

Kurt Russell was born on March 17, 1951, in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks. He started acting at the age of 12 on various television programs. In the 1960s he was signed to a 10-year contract with Walt Disney, which led to his appearance in many of the Disney films of the era. According to the late Robert Osborne of TCM (via Wikipedia), he became the studio’s top star of the 1970s.
Those Disney appearances did typecast Russell a bit and he would be stuck playing many roles that were somewhat wholesome in nature. He would turn that image around when director John Carpenter (fresh from the surprise blockbuster success of “Halloween”) cast him in the lead role of Elvis Presley in a TV movie called “Elvis!” That television film was really the first time Russell was taken seriously as an actor and it earned him an Emmy nomination. We may not be ready to say goodbye to Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) and her friends, but we don’t have a choice.
Paramount+ has confirmed the upcoming fourth season of Evil will be its last.

Production will begin on the new episodes in New York City in the coming weeks.
A teaser trailer can be seen below.

“Evil” originally debuted on CBS back in 2019. It was then shifted over to Paramount+ going into its second season.
