Lived until late 2009 with her then partner, actor Naveen Andrews from the TV series Lost (2004) , who is 21 years her junior.

She has one child, a son she named Free. He later changed his name to Tom. His father is David Carradine.

Acted for several years as Barbara Seagull because of a seagull that was accidentally killed during the filming of "Last Summer." At the time, she said she felt she had absorbed the seagull's spirit.

Barbara's father, Arnold Nathan Herzstein, was Ashkenazi Jewish. Barbara's paternal grandparents, Samuel Herzstein and Dora E. Sable, were from Shrepkow, Hungary and Russia, respectively. Barbara's mother, Melrose E. (Moore), who was originally from Arkansas, had English and Scots-Irish (Northern Irish) ancestry.

Was considered to play as Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct (1992) but turned it down.
