Netflix is often accused of canceling popular shows before their time. One of the biggest complaints is that the streaming service often ends a show after three seasons, even if there is more story to tell. However, one recent show that premiered in 2024 has already been canceled after just one season. This is even despite it having a major star in the lead role.
Here is what show was canceled and what you need to know.
Netflix Cancels Fan-Favorite Series
While streaming services have been great in many aspects, especially in terms of creative freedom, sometimes, these services can be a little too eager to cancel shows before they truly have the chance to be fleshed out. This is exactly what happened recently with a show that people got hooked on.

James Cameron showed up at D23 Brazil (by video) earlier today to confirm that Avatar: Fire & Ash, the third instalment in the hit franchise, is now officially in post-production.
Five gorgeous pieces of concept art have since been released (via SFFGazette.com), offering a better idea of what to expect from the new corners of Pandora we'll explore in this next chapter of the filmmaker's epic sci-fi saga.
Cameron mentioned that the Ash People are a reflection of the worst side of N'avi, suggesting he pulled inspiration from the reality when he noted, "We have a lot of anger and a lot of rage in the world we live in right now."
The threequel's other newly introduced N'avi tribe will be nomadic and travel through the air; however, the Ash People "were destroyed by volcanic eruptions, so they resent nature and everything the forest Na'vi preach."

Connie Nielsen thinks "it’s crazy" a third ‘Wonder Woman’ movie isn’t in the works. The 59-year-old actress played Queen Hippolyta in the Gal Gadot-starring DC film and its 2020 sequel ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, and has admitted she’s shocked studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran aren’t moving ahead with another instalment in the franchise after the series proved to be a box office hit.She told Den of Geek: "I think it’s crazy. Netflix has decided against making another series of Kaos, its new show starring Jeff Goldblum. More on it being cancelled here.
Before she created Kaos, which was revently released on Netflix, Charlie Covell wrote several terrific shows including Truelove, a dark drama for Channel 4 with a brilliant ensemble cast including Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters, and The End Of The F***ing World, about a teenager who believes himself to be a psychopath, which is now on Netflix and is well worth watching.
The synopsis for Kaos reads as follows:
Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. Until he wakes up and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming – and starts to see signs of it everywhere. Zeus’ once reliable brother, Hades (David Thewlis), the God of the Underworld,...

We had a feeling that this announcement was coming after star Aurora Perrineau shared and then deleted a cryptic social media post late last night, and Variety has now confirmed that Netflix has cancelled Kaos after a single season.
The black comedy drama, which stars Jeff Goldblum as the all-powerful King of the Gods, Zeus, only premiered on the streamer in late August. Though reviews were mostly positive (76% on Rotten Tomatoes), the 8-episode series arrived without much fanfare.
Though the show's viewership numbers were nothing special, they were far from disastrous.
Kaos appeared in Netflix’s top 10 charts for English-language series in each of its first four weeks on the streamer, topping out at No. 3 for the week of Sept. 2-8. It earned 14.9 million views (measured by total viewing time divided by running time) over those weeks.
Perrineau has since shared the following.
Thanks for the journey #Kaos ⚡️ pic.twitter.

Netflix viewers have descended into Kaos after it was announced that the well-received and deeply ambitious series was canceled after just one season. Written and created by The End of the F***ing World’s Charlie Covell, the eight-part comedy was released on the streaming platform in late August. In a darkly humorous reimagining of Greek mythology, six humans learned that they are parts of an ancient prophecy, clashing with Greek Gods. The star-studded cast included Jeff Goldblum as Zeus (in a tracksuit), Janet McTeer as Queen Hera, Nabhaan Rizwan as their rebellious son Dionysus, Aurora Perrineau as Eurydice, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Rakie Ayola as Persephone, Killian Scott as Orpheus, Debi Mazar as Medusa, Billie Piper as Cassandra, Stephen Dillane as Prometheus, Steven Dillane, and Fady Elsayed. And yet, just two months after its premiere, the cancellation came on Tuesday, October 8. Perrineau initially shared the ungodly...

Tell me if you've heard this one before: barely a month after a new show premiered its first season on Netflix, the streamer has decided to unceremoniously cancel it and chuck it in the bin. In this case, the show is Kaos, a series about Greek mythology set in the modern day, with characters like Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) and Hera (Janet McTeer) lording over Greece while mere humans scramble to worship them. Or at least that's what the humans are supposed to do; Kaos is all about what happens when that system goes off the rails, thanks in no small part to an unhealthy dose of paranoia and broken promises from the gods in charge.
Variety reports that Netfix has decided not to renew Kaos for a second season. It debuted on the platform on August 29, which means this decision comes just over five weeks later. That's a pretty short...

Netflix has decided not to return to Mount Olympus, canceling its series Kaos after a single season.
The decision comes about six weeks after the dark comedy, based on Greek and Roman mythology and created by Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World), made its debut on the streamer. “Kaos” will no longer reign on Netflix. The streamer has canceled the Greek mythology series, TheWrap has learned. The show hailed from “The End of the F***king World” creator Charlie Covell and put a modern twist on Greek mythology – three humans contend with the corrupt gods as they discover their connection to one another and an overarching prophecy.
Jeff Goldblum played Zeus in the show with Janet McTeer as Hera, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Debi Mazar as Medusa and Stephen Dillane as Prometheus.
The ensemble also included Aurora Perrineau, Leila Farzad, Suzy Eddie Izzard and Rakie Ayola. “Kaos” premiered on Aug. 29, so this is a pretty swift cancellation from Netflix. The show debuted with only 3.4 million views during its first week of release, ticked up to 5.9 million views in its second week and then dipped back down to 3.4 million on its third week.

Mike Leigh is moving slowly around the Toronto International Film Festival with a cane. His latest film, “Hard Truths” has earned raves and plays the New York Film Festival October 5. The 81-year-old British filmmaker, Oscar-nominated five times for writing and twice for directing has struggled to raise money for his projects since his $18-million period battle epic “Peterloo” (Amazon) flopped at the box office in 2018 ($2 million worldwide).
“Hard Truths” was delayed by the pandemic, but Bleecker Street and a group of European backers cobbled together a modest budget, Leigh’s lowest in some time, for the small-scale film focused on the astonishing character of Pansy (“Secrets & Lies” Oscar nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste), a woman of Jamaican heritage who is so miserable that her massive pain and anger leak out on anyone unlucky enough to be near her, from her hapless husband (David Webber) and son (Tuwaine Barrett) to people in...

In addition to interviews with the likes of Tom Sturridge (Dream) and Kirby Howell Baptiste (Death), the footage gives us a first glimpse of Laurence O’Fuarain as Thor, Clive Russell as Odin, Freddie Fox as Loki, Shivering Jemmy (we're not sure who has been cast in this role), and more.

By the power of Jeff Goldblum, Kaos might just reign once again.
Although Netflix has yet to renew the series for Season 2, creator Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World) said the streaming platform has “been very supportive” of the show, which puts a contemporary spin on the classic tales of Greek mythology.
“I think anything is possible,” Covell told Cosmopolitan UK. “My dream was three seasons. I’ve got many ideas and a strong sense of what I’d want to do with it.”
They added about the potential for a sophomore season, “There’s definitely more. I also didn’t want to do an ending that was a total cliffhanger. I hope that it feels satisfying as a season one in its own right, and there’s always hope for the more. Because I really would love to do more and work with those actors and that team.

One of IndieWire’s most-anticipated fall film premieres this year, “Hard Truths” reunites beloved (and seven-time Oscar-nominated) director Mike Leigh with actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste. She received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for his 1996 Cannes Palme d’Or winner “Secrets & Lies.” In “Hard Truths,” out from Bleecker Street for an awards-qualifying run in December after debuting at the Toronto and New York film festivals, Jean-Baptiste plays a woman sick to death of life, and she’ll tell anyone about it who’s willing to listen. Watch the trailer below.
Here’s the official synopsis courtesy of Bleecker Street: “Legendary filmmaker Mike Leigh returns to the contemporary world with a fierce, compassionate, and often darkly humorous study of family and the thorny ties that bind us. Reunited with Leigh for the first time since multiple Oscar-nominated ‘Secrets and Lies,’ the astonishing Marianne Jean-Baptiste plays Pansy, a woman wracked by fear,...

For those who want something a little more adult than Percy Jackson, but slightly less dark than American Gods, Kaos may be the modern mythological reimagining you’re looking for. It’s a darkly comedic, rambunctious family affair from creator Charlie Covell (The End Of The F**king World), whose irreverent take will have you falling for gods and mortals alike.
Jeff Goldblum is in his element as Zeus, the king of the gods, playing him as notoriously unstable and self-obsessed. It seems that all of his family have left him alone on Mount Olympus, with the exception of his wife, Hera (Janet McTeer), and his son, Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwan). When an unknown group of mortals hijack Olympia’s offering to the gods with a literal pile of shit, Zeus is forced to face the fact that his family is falling apart, and people...

When watching Netflix's new Greek mythology series, Kaos, audiences will often hear the word 'veros' or 'vero' used.
Kaos is a new black comedy take on the gods of Greek mythology and stars an ensemble of A-listers as the iconic characters, including Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, David Thewlis as Hades, and Janet McTeer as Hera.
In a similar method to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Kaos mixes the classic myths with modern concepts and sees the gods deal with a range of first-world problems through a comedic lens.

After much anticipation, the dark comedy series Kaos, created by the mind behindThe End of the F**ing World, Charlie Covell, finally premiered on Netflix on August 29, 2024! This new original series reimagines Greek mythology with a bold and modern twist, bringing the ancient gods and goddesses into a whole new light.
For those who haven't yet tuned into Kaos, the show centers around Zeus -- the all-powerful King of the Gods -- who spirals into paranoia after discovering a single wrinkle on his forehead. This seemingly small flaw sends him into a tailspin, convinced that his reign is at risk, igniting chaos not just among the gods but throughout the mortal world as well.
Since its release, Kaos has quickly become a fan favorite, captivating viewers with its witty storytelling, unique take on classic myths, and an ensemble cast that truly brings these legendary characters to life.

Let me make this very clear at first: I am no expert in Greek mythology. We’re talking about Kaos here, which is the Netflix-ication of Greek mythology, and it works wonderfully. I’m sure Charlie Covell had a very exciting pitch for Netflix about the show (having a hit series in the form of The End of the F***ing World certainly helped them), and half the battle was won with the casting of Jeff Goldblum as Zeus. We’re going to look into Zeus and the other characters in this article and draw a comparison between the show’s version and Greek mythology. I’ve done quite a bit of research for this one, in case you’re wondering.

After wowing us as John Dee in The Sandman two years ago, David Thewlis is back again on Netflix. The British thespian plays the god of the Underworld, Hades, in Charlie Covell’s Kaos, which can be described as a magnificent modern-day update of Greek mythology. It’s no surprise that Thewlis has knocked it out of the park as Hades. In this article, we’re going to shed light on Hades’ journey in the show and what the future holds for him.

Plot: Having long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods, Zeus’ reign has never been truly threatened. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Believing it to be the harbinger of an ancient prophecy which foretells his destruction, neurosis sets in: Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming. As his paranoia takes hold, the God of Gods – seeing signs everywhere – starts to dangerously self-destruct. And he’s right to be worried. Zeus’ one time friend and now prisoner, Prometheus, is orchestrating a plan to bring him down. The plan involves three disparate humans, all of whom are totally unaware of their cosmic significance or the part they must play in saving the world. No pressure. (Some pressure).

For several years, since the release of J.K. Rowling’s extensive work on her magical novels of Harry Potter, the storyline and characters have sparked myriads of theories surrounding the Wizarding World. But one of the most significant twists that stirred the pot of Harry Potter fandom turned out to be a theory about Remus Lupin’s werewolf condition.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling in an interview with The Today Show
The theory from Harry Potter fans imagined that Remus Lupin’s affliction was perhaps a metaphor for stigmatized diseases like HIV and AIDS. However, growing tired of people recycling insights, J.K. Rowling addressed this particular claim and revealed that this “revelation” is less groundbreaking than it seems.

Kaos is a fantasy dark comedy-drama series created by Charlie Covell. The Netflix series works as a contemporary reimagining of Greek mythology and it follows the story of six humans as they discover that they are a huge part of the prophecy that will destroy the Greek gods led by the king of the gods Zeus. Kaos stars Jeff Goldblum, Janet McTeer, Aurora Perrineau, Billie Piper, Nabhaan Rizwan, David Thewlis, Leila Farzad, Killian Scott, Cliff Curtis, Rakie Ayola, Debi Mazar, Misia Butler, and Fady Elsayed. So, if you loved the hilarious dark comedy, cruel and narcissistic gods, and a fantastical story in Kaos here are some similar shows you should check out next.

Before I get into the actual review, here’s a mini disclaimer: the only knowledge of Greek mythology I have comes from faded memories of Madeline Miller’s gorgeous contemporary retelling of Achilles’ story, so if you were expecting someone complaining about how these modern chronicles are crap, then my friend, you’ve come to the wrong place. As a viewer, I was immediately attracted to the fact that I didn’t need any prior knowledge of the gods before watching this show. From the little bit I know, i.e., some of their names and affinities, I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth sailing the show is despite the gazillion characters. It’s the perfect segue into said world if need be, but on the other hand, it’s plain family drama of the best kind.

Jeff Goldblum plays Zeus, king of the gods, in Kaos. In the marketing for the Netflix series, he’s been positioned as more of an Atlas-like figure, with the entire show carried on his back—and his twitchy, stuttering shtick. In actuality, Kaos is distributed pretty evenly among its large cast of characters, many of whom don’t really seem like they belong to the same world, and none of whom prove strong enough to keep the series from crumbling.
Kaos takes place in a world not unlike our present one, except here the Greek gods are real and rule over humanity from atop Mount Olympus. We’re introduced to the major members of this pantheon of gods in an opening sequence set to Dire Straits’s “Money for Nothing,” with each character title often followed by a smaller one offering some glib addendum. Playing like Percy Jackson for grownups, with a dash of American Gods and Hadestown thrown in for good measure, Netflix’s dark comedy Kaos is packed with big ideas that creator Charlie Covell struggles to explore in any depth.
Over eight hour-long episodes, my response to Kaos and its often clever upending of mythological tropes went from “That’s really cool, I can’t wait to see what they do with that” to “That’s interesting, but I know it won’t go anywhere” to “Meh.” With an impressive cast, a cheeky tone and little investment in substantive follow-through, the show goes from promising to frustrating to disappointing — albeit with tantalizing hints throughout of what could have been.

A new Netflix series is coming out at the end of the month and the trailer was just released!
Kaos is a new Netflix series created by Charlie Covell, who was also the writer of another Netflix show, The End of the F***ing World.
This new show stars Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, king of the Gods and all powerful. The premise of Kaos is that Zeus has been ruling carefree and never truly felt threatened. That is until a wrinkle on his forehead appears that he believes to be a sign of his inevitable fall from power. While this could all just be Zeus’ paranoia, there may be some truth to his fears when it’s revealed that an old friend turned prisoner, Prometheus, is hatching a plot to destroy him.

Jeff Goldblum is a cruel and decidedly cool King of the Gods and ruler of the world Zeus in the trailer for Netflix’s darkly comic series Kaos.
As Greek mythology gets a modern twist, an increasingly paranoid Goldblum must contend with mortals with powers to bring him down, and a dysfunctional family with powerful siblings scheming and failing among one another in the trailer that dropped on Monday.
“We need to make destruction really sing,” Goldblum, channeling Logan Roy and wearing designer track suits, says at one point in the teaser trailer for the Greek mythology drama from creator and writer Charlie Covell, who earlier wrote the British drama The End of the Fucking World for Netflix.

Netflix has launched the full official trailer for the upcoming series ‘Kaos’ in which Jeff Goldblum plays the role of the all-powerful god, Zeus.
Zeus: King of the Gods, ruler of the world. He’s cruel, stylish and all-powerful.
That is until he’s not. From BAFTA-winning screenwriter and showrunner Charlie Covell (The End Of The F***ing World), Kaos is a bold, darkly comic, contemporary take on Greek mythology: exploring love, power, and life in the underworld.
Having long enjoyed his status as king of the gods, Zeus’s reign has never been truly threatened.
