For throngs of fans in attendance at Rhode Island Comic Con in Providence this past weekend, the emphatic answer was Wes Craven‘s Scream.
Actors David Arquette (Dewey), Skeet Ulrich (Billy), Matthew Lillard (Stu), Jamie Kennedy (Randy), Rose McGowan (Tatum), Roger L. Jackson (voice of Ghostface), Lee Waddell (Ghostface), and Dermot Mulroney (Scream VI‘s Detective Bailey) participated in a reunion panel on Saturday.
“The fact that this movie has spanned generations is unbelievable to us,” a grateful Ulrich greeted the packed audience.
“We’re so thankful for you for taking the time out of your lives to come and see us and for the love and the warmth that you share when we get to meet you. We don’t always have a ton of time, but we try and take as much time as possible to really show our love for you.

Matthew Lillard played one of the original Ghostfaces, Stu Macher, alongside Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) in Wes Craven's Scream, and despite the character seemingly meeting a violent end, fans continue to speculate and theorize that the deranged killer could return in the upcoming Scream 7.
Stu appeared to be pretty definitively killed off during the climax of the movie, but we have seen plenty of people survive what should be fatal wounds in the franchise, so who knows?
For his part, Lillard has said that he believes Stu is still alive, and would be happy to reprise the role if that was something fans wanted to see.
“Stu is definitely alive, right? My character Stu is definitely alive. I would love it. If it made sense for the franchise. If Kevin [Williamson] liked it. Then sure. Obviously.”

The video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) quickly became Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing movie when it reached theatres and the Peacock streaming service back in October, surpassing the likes of Split, The Invisible Man, The Black Phone, M3GAN, the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, and the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises with its haul of $295 million. So, of course, there’s a sequel coming our way, aiming for a December 5, 2025 theatrical release. Returning star Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) recently said that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is going to be bigger and scarier than its predecessor, and now co-star Matthew Lillard (Scream) has added that the movie is going to be fan-centric and action-packed.

Although there have been some bumps in the road (to put it mildly), the Scream franchise is trucking forward with a seventh installment set to be directed by original Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson. Matthew Lillard, who played Stu Macher in the first Scream movie, told GamesRadar+ that he believes the franchise is in a good place but that recent sequels have gotten “too violent.“
“I think it’s in a good place. I think that [the movie being] back in the hands of Kevin Williamson is great. I love what [Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin] were doing before. nothing against them. In fact, I thought they were taking a really exciting way,” Lillard said. “I thought the movie got too violent. I think 6 was, like… I don’t think Ghostface ever needs a shotgun. I think that the movies are – everything is trying to repeat what we did in the first movie in a lot of ways.

Should Ghostface ever be allowed to wield a shotgun? Not according to original Scream star Matthew Lillard. Recently, while chatting with GamesRadar+, the actor shared his thoughts on Scream 6, saying that he felt the movie had gotten "too violent."
It's a little funny to hear Lillard, who played one of the actual killers, Stu Macher, in the 1996 film, criticize a Scream movie for becoming "too violent" when the first movie opened with Drew Barrymore's character getting disemboweled. Scream has always been more comedic and less dark than some of its counterparts, but the movies have always been violent.

To Lillard's credit, he does praise Radio Silence directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett—who did both Scream (2022) and Scream 6— for the direction they took the films, noting that while...

In the ever-evolving world of entertainment, few horror film franchises have managed to maintain their chilling legacy akin to that of Scream. Renowned for its signature blend of suspense, meta-commentary, and the iconic Ghostface, it won’t be wrong to state that it has now become a benchmark in slasher cinema.

However, in recent times, the franchise has evolved and adapted to keep up with the rest of its contemporaries, introducing elements that would not have been found in the original film. And Matthew Lillard, who played the unforgettable Stu Macher has a lot to say about it all.

For the first time in the franchise’s history, original Scream writer Kevin Williamson will be seated in the director’s chair for the upcoming Scream 7, with Neve Campbell taking center stage once more as iconic character Sidney Prescott. Fellow original Scream star Matthew Lillard has made no secret of the fact that he’d like to return as well – “Stu is definitely alive,” he recently proclaimed – but he’s excited to see Williamson’s directorial vision either way.
Speaking with Games Radar+, Lillard offered up his thoughts on the two Scream movies directed by Radio Silence, while also expressing his excitement about the franchise’s future.

Actor Matthew Lillard has played a memorable role in the “Scream” films for over 25 years now. However, the 54-year-old reveals that his involvement in the hit horror franchise did not immediately boost his Hollywood career as some might expect. Lillard first portrayed the character of Stu Macher in the original 1996 “Scream” movie. While that film was a massive box office success, Lillard says it “did not change” his career trajectory at the time.
Despite going on to appear in many other popular projects, Lillard says he still worries about not finding work. Even late in his decades-long career, uncertainty remains, much like legendary actor Jimmy Stewart reportedly felt. When looking back, Lillard now sees he was “destined” for a steadier career rather than instant fame.
Fans can look forward to seeing more of Lillard’s character in the upcoming seventh “Scream” film. Original writer Kevin Williamson returns to direct this installment,...

Matthew Lillard is opening up about turning down a chance to compete on Dancing With the Stars.
The 54-year-old actor opened up about his struggles earlier in his career in a new interview and revealed how he thought he would be a big name actor after Scooby-Doo.
However, after the second movie didn’t succeed as well, he had to learn to manage his expectations.
Keep reading to find out more…
“I thought I’d be No. 1 on the call sheet for the next 10 years of movies,” he told Business Insider. “And the reality was, the exact opposite happened.”
Matthew then had to reevaluate his career and his team pitched him for DWTS, but he wasn’t exactly thrilled about that idea.
“I was going to do Dancing with the Stars. And I was like, if I do Dancing with the Stars, I’ll never win an Academy Award,” he shared.

Matthew Lillard thought his career would take off after the success of 2002’s live-action Scooby-Doo, which made $275 million worldwide and launched a sequel. He signed on to play Shaggy again in 2004’s Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, scoring his biggest payday yet and believing his career was only going up from there.
“I thought I’d be the top choice for the next 10 years,” Lillard recently revealed. “But the opposite happened.”
When Scooby-Doo 2 flopped and didn’t reach the $200 million the original earned, Lillard’s career stalled, forcing him to rethink his goals. He admitted he’d been too focused on chasing fame and getting big roles.
At one point, he considered doing Dancing With the Stars but realized it might shift him further from his goal of becoming a respected actor. “I told my agent, ‘I just want to act. I want to be in movies. I need to reset my expectations.

Matthew Lillard admits that 'Scream' didn't change much for his career. The 54-year-old star portrayed Stu Macher in the original 1996 film in Wes Craven's horror franchise and acknowledged that it didn't have the same transformative effect for him compared to leading stars such as David Arquette and Neve Campbell.Speaking to Collider, Matthew said: "It changed a lot of people's trajectory. It did not change mine. It was not a moment in any way, shape or form where all of a sudden I got any different attention. Period."And that really sort of solidified for me, now looking back, I was like, 'Oh, I was destined to be this blue-collar actor', which is great, and I like my career. Don't get me wrong. After 20 years, Matthew Lillard has come back from the critical and box office fizzle of Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
The actor recently recalled the fallout from reprising his role as Shaggy Rogers in the 2004 live-action sequel as he opened up about the ups and downs in his acting career and how he’s found “power outside of just being an actor” over the years.
“I’ve gone through good patches and bad patches,” Lillard told Business Insider. “I’ve been irrelevant and thought I was never going to work again. I’ve been at all aspects of the career, and I love where I’m at right this second.”
Lillard first appeared as Shaggy in the 2002 live-action adaptation of the 1969 cartoon, alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne Blake, Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred Jones and Linda Cardellini as Velma Dinkley. The movie topped the box office when it premiered, grossing $275.7 million worldwide.

Matthew Lillard had much, much higher expectations for the infamous 2004 box-office bomb “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.”

During the month of October, it’s fairly common for people to talk about spirits. After all, ghosts and demons and the like have become staples of the Halloween season. But for Scooby-Doo, Thirteen Ghosts, and Scream star Matthew Lillard, his latest project deals with a very different kind of spirit: The alcoholic kind.
Lillard joined forces with screenwriter and producer Justin Ware to start Find Familiar Spirits in 2022. Named after a famous Dungeons & Dragons spell, the alcohol brand is dedicated to crafting spirits with the same authenticity and kinship found in fandom. But now, in an ode to the horror community, the company has launched Macabre Spirits, which features a series of tequilas that celebrate the genre that the actor has become so entrenched in throughout his career.

Matthew Lillard would like to return to the 'Scream' franchise - even though his character was supposedly killed off.The 54-year-old actor played the role of Stu in the first installment of the spoof horror franchise and plans to bring his character back to life were "justifiably" shelved following the Columbine High School massacre of 1999 but he still "dreams" that one day he could return. When Neve Campbell finally signed on for Scream 7 after a greedy dispute over money, it immediately gave us hope for the movie. While the franchise has tried to move on without her or has moved her to a supporting legacy character, it is difficult to imagine it succeeding without Sidney Prescott. But with Sidney comes her husband, Mark Kincaid, played by Patrick Dempsey in Scream 3…right? As it turns out, we may see the detective — last seen settling in for a movie with Sidney, Gale and Dewey — yet again.
Appearing on Today, Patrick Dempsey confirmed that some discussions have taken place for him to reprise Kincaid for the upcoming Scream 7, saying he’s at the point where he’s just waiting for the screenplay to be delivered. He added, “There has been a conversation about it. I haven’t seen anything yet. So, we’ll see what happens.

It’s time for a new episode of the Real Slashers video series – and while the series is often focused on movies from the slasher glory days of the 1980s, occasionally it will jump to other decades. The latest episode is an example of that, as it takes a look at the 1996 film Scream (watch it Here), a movie that revitalized the horror genre at the time it was released, as horror had a bit of a rough ride through the early ’90s. To hear all about it, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Wes Craven from a screenplay by Kevin Williamson, Scream has the following synopsis: After a series of mysterious deaths, a seemingly peaceful community becomes a place where no one is safe, and everyone is a suspect. That is when an offbeat group of friends rally to unlock the town’s deadly secrets, and gets...

Best known for playing Bill S. Preston, Esq. in the Bill & Ted movies (and for being one of the vampires in The Lost Boys), Alex Winter also has many directing credits to his name, including the 1993 cult classic oddball comedy Freaked. His latest feature directorial effort is Adulthood, which is described as a darkly comic modern noir – and Variety reports that Adulthood has secured a U.S. and Canada distribution deal with Republic Pictures. A release date has not yet been announced.
Winter provided the following statement: “I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Republic Pictures for the North American sales and release of our film. They have great instincts and are dedicated to quality indie movies.“
Scripted by novelist Michael M.B. Galvin, Adulthood tells the story of sister and brother Megan and Noah, who are barely hanging on in present day America. When they discover a dead body,...

Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures once intended to make a Scream 7 that would have starred Scream (2022) and Scream VI leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon at the helm. But then Ortega allegedly asked for a substantial pay raise – and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. Then Barrera was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass. Landon dropped out the of the project soon after. So Scream 7 has been re-developed, Campbell has signed on to return as franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, back in the lead role – and her Scream (1996) co-star Matthew Lillard has confirmed that if he were asked to reprise the role of killer Stu Macher,...

Could we be having a Scream reunion soon? Possibly! On a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Matthew Lillard appeared as a guest and shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated Scream 7. He was also asked if he would like to reprise his role as Stu in the seventh installment, and you're going to like his answer to this question, Scream fans.
If you recall, Lillard starred as Stu Macher in Scream (1996), the first film in the Scream horror franchise. Viewers find out later in the movie that Stu is actually Ghostface. Well, there are actually two Ghostface killers. Stu is one of the Ghostface killers with Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) being the other one and the mastermind behind all the murders in Woodsboro.

Matthew Lillard has been extremely busy this Halloween season, launching his own horror-themed tequila, hosting Blumhouse’s baking competition series “Killer Cakes,” and preparing for his return in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. He also made time last week to make an appearance on Drew Barrymore’s talk show, where he talked about a potential return to the Scream saga.
Lillard has made it no secret in recent years that he believes his original Scream character Stu Macher is potentially still alive, and he doubled down on his recent “Drew” appearance.
Stu Macher, you may recall, was stabbed multiple times before having a TV set dropped on his head. Injuries that one could conceivably survive, it’s at least worth pointing out.
What does the actor behind the character feel about all those rumors?
“Stu is definitely alive, right? My character Stu is definitely alive,” Lillard responded when asked the big question.

And returning star Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) has said that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is going to be bigger and scarier than its predecessor! Blumhouse has also unveiled a teaser poster for the film:

The horror-comedy film series Five Nights at Freddy’s is based on the popular video game of the same name. It is set in a creepy location with haunted animatronics that come to life and wreaks havoc on the night guards and other characters.

Despite having a modest budget, the first film, which debuted in theaters in 2023, was a big blockbuster. The estimated amount of its worldwide total box office was almost $300 million, just from a budget of only $20 million. Moreover, critical reviews were not so great. It got 32% on Rotten Tomatoes, but the audience was very impressed with the film. A mammoth box office hit, this is the highest-grossing film from Blumhouse, and so it goes without saying that excitement for its sequel has skyrocketed now.

Jason Blum couldn’t reveal details today about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 but he brought New York Comic Con attendees the poster for the sequel to last year’s highest grossing horror movie.

What happens to our souls when we die? Do we return in another body to live life again? Do we wink out of existence like an imploding star? Or do we become ghostly spirits, doomed to haunt the world of the living? If this is what waits for us when our bodies expire, what form will our ethereal spirit’s take? Will we appear as our ideal selves, at the peak of our physical existence? Or will we be doomed to spend eternity confronting the remnants of our demise, our final moment etched into our skin till the end of time? Steve Beck’s Thir13en Ghosts presents just such a fate. A fiendish serial killer is compiling a “masterpiece” in the new trailer for Prime Video’s Cross — and Aldis Hodge’s titular crimesolver is determined to stop him.
In Cross, which is based on characters from the James Patterson novels and is shepherded by Burn Notice vet Ben Watkins, Hodge (Leverage) plays Alex Cross, who is uniquely capable of digging into the psyches of killers and their victims, in order to identify — and ultimately capture — the murderers. Alex is “brilliant, flawed, and full of contradictions,” per the streamer. “A doting father and family man single-minded to the point of obsession when he hunts killers.

While Stephen King is known as the King of Horror, he has produced masterpieces when he deviated from his usual genre. Examples of such works include The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption. Now, King’s sci-fi novella, The Life of Chuck, from his collection If It Bleeds is adapted into a film, that debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film, helmed by Mike Flanagan, was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the TIFF. The recognition has great significance for the film as fifteen of the last sixteen winners have been nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The Life of Chuck will probably follow suit and earn a Best Picture nod at the Oscars.
