The Wild Robot Box Office (Worldwide): On Track To Achieve A New Milestone (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Chris Sanders’ The Wild Robot, featuring Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the lead character, has been winning hearts since its release. It has also consistently been in the domestic top 5 list. The animated feature is now set to cross a major milestone at the worldwide box office. Scroll below for the deets.
Its only competition at the theatres was Transformers One, but despite good reviews, this Josh Cooley-directed film failed to attract viewers and is underperforming at the box office. The film also has an ensemble voice cast comprising Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm. The movie even failed to cross the $200 million mark.
According to Luiz Fernando’s report, The Wild Robot grossed a solid $9 million on its ninth weekend overseas.

For a decade and change, Hugh Grant was the king of the romantic comedy, the perfect floppy-haired vessel for all women (and men) to pin their dreams on made all the more endearing by his seeming inability to handle such affection. Nowadays, he’s more at home playing villainous roles in films like “Paddington 2” and the recently released “Heretic,” but for many, including filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, he will always be that silly man who played with our hearts. While looking back on his career during a recent interview with Letterboxd, Grant recalled an exchange he had with Tarantino where the writer/director shared his adulation for the 2007 musical rom-com “Music and Lyrics.”
“He does love that film. I had this weird experience that some do in London: this sweaty person pushed his way through the crowd to me, and it was Quentin Tarantino,” Grant said. “And to my enormous surprise,...

“Venom: The Last Dance” (Sony) was the default #1 with a $16.2 million gross. That’s an uninspiring number for the top spot, but the threequel now stands at $394 million worldwide and predecessor “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” totaled $507 million. “Dance” could do the same.
The modestly budgeted “Heretic” (A24) and “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” (Lionsgate) are battling for a #2 slot that won’t be certain until Sunday’s actuals come in. Both did around $11 million, a bit over projections.
However, the most noteworthy aspect of the box office on this post-election weekend is that the top 20 is so wildly eclectic that it’s quite possible even the most committed cinematic completist will never see them all.
That’s all the more strange with Veteran’s Day on Monday, making this a four-day weekend for many. Usually that encourages major studios to place their top films, but studios held back due...

The song remains the same this weekend as Venom: The Last Dance follows our predictions from earlier this week and takes the top box office spot for the third weekend in a row. This marks yet another successful three-day outing for a franchise entry despite another drop in domestic dollars. While it will still go down as the lowest-grossing chapter in the series (by a long shot), it’s not the box office disaster some predicted it could be, with its take dwarfing that of Morbius, Madame Web, The Marvels, and Joker: Folie a Deux.
Without a whole lot of genuine competition, Venom: The Last Dance easily took the #1 spot this weekend, taking in $16.2 million and upping its total box office haul to just under $115 million. It’s worth noting that the first two movies in the series had each taken in somewhere around the $141-$142 million range domestically by their second weekend.

“Venom: The Last Dance” topped the box office for the third consecutive weekend, while the faith-based Christmas comedy “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” led all newcomers during another slow frame at local theaters.
According to Sunday estimates, “Venom 3” grossed $16.2 million over the weekend, good for $114.8 million in North America since its debut last month. The final entry in the Tom Hardy Spider-man spin-off franchise has grossed close to $400 million worldwide so far and has at least another weekend to grab significant cash from mainstream moviegoers before “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” hit theaters on November 22.
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” was the runner-up film according to estimates, with $11.1 million. Released by Lionsgate, the film stars Judy Greer and Lauren Graham and focuses on a family of juvenile delinquent siblings who wind up starring in the town Christmas pageant. Its based on the book by Barbara Robinson.
In third place was A24’s “Heretic” with $11 million.

The major Hollywood studios always knew the post-presidential election weekend was going to be especially quiet this year as they avoided releasing big event films, both because of jacked-up ad rates and worries of civil unrest if Republican candidate Donald Trump didn’t win (the images of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol after Trump’s loss in 2020 have not been forgotten). As it turned out, Trump defeated Democratic opponent Kamala Harris.
The lack of a big new title on the marquee — two years ago on this weekend, Disney unfurled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, for example, followed by The Marvels last year — allowed Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance to stay atop the domestic box office chart in its third weekend with an estimated $16.2 million from 3,905 theaters for a domestic tally of $114.8 million.

“Venom: The Last Dance” is looming over the domestic box office in its third weekend of release. The third and final installment in Sony’s comic book trilogy has added $16.2 million from 3,905 North American theaters, down 37% from the prior frame and enough to lead over two newcomers, A24’s horror thriller “Heretic” and Lionsgate’s family friendly “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”
Although those new releases weren’t able to topple “Venom 3” from No. 1, they opened on the higher end of expectations, thanks to word-of-mouth and the otherwise desolate movie theater landscape. Hollywood mostly avoided the post-election weekend out of concern that people wouldn’t be paying attention to anything other than the presidential race. As a result, overall domestic box office revenues remain down more than 11% from 2023 and nearly 27% from 2019, according to Comscore.
“Heretic,” featuring “Notting Hill” star Hugh Grant playing against type as a villain, notched third place with $11 million from 3,221 venues.

Sunday Am: The top three films — Venom: The Last Dance, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and Heretic — in a Veterans Day weekend sans a major tentpole, overperformed this weekend.
The biggest eyebrow raiser is that Lionsgate/Kingdom Story’s Best Christmas Pageant Ever had a better than anticipated hold ($2.9M vs. $3.3M) on Saturday, putting the Dallas Jenkins-directed family movie neck-in-neck with Heretic for a No. 2 upset with $11M apiece. Lionsgate is calling No. 2 at $11.1M.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson in ‘Kraven the Hunter’
Venom: The Last Dance‘s third weekend is $16.2M, -37%. With all the great holds for this threequel, why didn’t Sony just give Christmas a potential fanboy tentpole and play this to a massive multiple instead of the thrice moved Kraven the Hunter, which is opening on Dec. 13? Odds are that the less than $130M R-rated Marvel deep universe title needs a Christmas 5x multiple more...

[This story contains some mild spoilers for Heretic.]
The heavens have smiled on Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ Heretic.
Critics and audiences are of the belief that their fourth outing as writer-directors is their finest work yet, and it’s been a long time coming considering the Iowa natives’ thought-provoking religious horror movie was conceived before they broke out as the co-writers and originators of A Quiet Place (2018). The film is largely a three-hander between two Mormon missionaries, Sisters Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Paxton (Chloe East), and a potential convert named Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant). Upon entering the Englishman’s home in order to peddle the wares of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the two missionaries soon realize they’ve been ensnared in a terrifying game of wits that is meant to test and contradict their faith.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains mild spoilers for “Heretic,” in theaters now.
In their new movie “Heretic,” now in theaters via A24, writer-directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods tell the story of a mysterious man named Mr. Reed, who traps two Mormon missionaries in his house after they try to educate him about their faith.
Before they could begin filming, Beck and Woods had the unique challenge of casting the complicated character of Mr. Reed. They needed a lead actor who could switch between villainous and charming in the blink of an eye, who could also deliver plenty of deep dialogue about religious ideas.
It wasn’t a role for the faint of heart, but Beck and Woods thought of Hugh Grant after seeing one of his shapeshifting performances.
“We’ve been blown away by Hugh — of course, we grew up with all of his incredible romantic comedies,” Woods says.

The major Hollywood studios skirted this weekend and held off on new releases, a decision that likely hedged against an uncertain national mood following the presidential election. Their absence is others’ gain though, as A24’s tricky thriller “Heretic” and Lionsgate’s seasonal play “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” each look to make a solid impression in their opening weekends.
But it’s Sony’s “Venom: The Last Dance” that continues to stay on top of domestic charts. After an underwhelming opening weekend, the “Spider-Man” spin-off has been putting up solid holds, turning in another one here. “The Last Dance” added $3.9 million on Friday, on its way to about $14 million for its third weekend of release. It has now notched $100 million in North America and will pass “Alien: Romulus” ($105 million), “If” ($111 million) and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” ($113 million) over the next few days to become the 14th-highest-grossing domestic release of the year.

In another quiet weekend for the box office, Sony/Columbia’s “Venom: The Last Dance” is cruising to a third No. 1 weekend with approximately $15 million grossed, topping newcomers “Heretic” from A24 and “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” from Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company.
“The Last Dance” made $3.9 million on its third Friday and is projected to have a domestic total of $112.5 million, continuing its trajectory of finishing with a domestic and global total lower than the past two “Venom” films, but still theatrically profitable against its $120 million budget.
“Heretic” and “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” are in a narrow race for the No. 2 spot. Currently, “Pageant” has the edge with a $5 million opening from 3,020 locations, putting it on track for a $10.7 million opening against a reported $20 million budget.

“Heretic” is here.
A24’s latest high-minded horror movie follows a pair of adorable Mormon missionaries, Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East), who arrive at the cottage-like home of a reclusive Englishman Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant) and get much more than they bargained for. What starts off as a spirited conversation about faith becomes something much more horrific, as Mr. Reed starts to challenge and then push them in some truly perverse, violent ways.
Will the two missionaries escape this man’s vile grasp? And what will be left of them if they do?
We’re going to talk about the ending of the excellent “Heretic,” including comments from the film’s writer/directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, perhaps best known as the creators of “A Quiet Place.” But this will be a spoiler-heavy breakdown, so turn back now if you haven’t watched the movie.

Spoilers for "Heretic" follow.
Does November count as part of spooky season? No matter your answer, one of 2024's best new horror movies has just debuted post Halloween. It's Scott Beck and Bryan Woods' "Heretic." An easy label for the film is religious horror, but it's not quite the same as "Rosemary's Baby" or, more recently, the twin "pregnant with the antichrist" pictures "Immaculate" and "The First Omen."
"Heretic" is a horror film about religion, where the characters are discussing their faiths and the history of them. At least half of the dialogue in the script must belong to the villain, Hugh Grant's Mr. Reed. A theology academic turned serial killer, Reed gets his newest playthings when two Mormon missionaries (Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East) show up at his doorstep. Instead of letting the pair convert him, he gives them a course on "the one true religion."

Movies are empathy machines, as Roger Ebert once wrote. The best films allow us to experience emotions we may not have felt otherwise through a particular character’s story. But some movies conjure emotions that we’re actively seeking out. Happiness. Joy. Love. We call these “feel-good movies.” Everybody has their go-to stable of films they return to over and over again when they need a boost — or maybe just an escape.
If you’re looking to expand your horizons beyond whatever’s streaming on Netflix, or if you just need a pick-me-up Asap, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’ve assembled a list of some of the best feel-good movies to watch when you’re feeling down.

Halloween may be over, but the scares keep on coming.
A24 and Hugh Grant’s new horror movie “Heretic” is launching at the box office this weekend, and it’s made $1.2 million so far in Thursday previews.
It will go up against Sony’s superhero threequel “Venom: The Last Dance,” which has reigned over the box office for the past two weeks. The Tom Hardy-led action movie is aiming to make around $13 million to $15 million in its third frame, which would be a 40%-50% from last weekend. “Heretic” is on track to open with $8 million to $10 million, so it will likely have to settle for second place.
“When two missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints attempt to convert a reclusive Englishman, it turns out to be far more dangerous than they could have expected,” reads the plot description for “Heretic.” Grant stars as the creepy Mr.

A24's latest twisty chiller, Heretic, is now in theatres, and we're breaking down what happens in the final act of the critically-acclaimed religious horror flick.
Written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who broke through with their script for John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place, Heretic stars Hugh Grant as Mr. Reed, who has some fiendish plans for two missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East), who come calling.
Initially wary of coming inside the house, the girls feel more at ease when the seemingly gregarious and welcoming Reed tells them that his wife is at home and currently baking a pie in the kitchen. Alarm bells go off when one of them notices a blueberry pie scented candle burning on the table, and Reed's mask begins to slip.

Let’s talk about one of Hollywood’s most underrated rom-com dynamos: Hugh Grant. Sandra Bullock once pointed out the hilarious (and kind of sad) truth about his career—he doesn’t get nearly enough credit for his genius. Two Weeks Notice being the perfect example.

A wise prophet once said that “you gotta have faith, faith, faith.” Still, what is a spiritual belief system if it isn’t occasionally tested (see: Job) — and that’s where Hugh Grant comes in. The 64-year-old movie star/stammering British icon has spent the last decade or so of his career trying to erase memories of the first few decades of his career, purposefully leaning into what he calls his “freak-show era.” He’s embraced his inner rat bastard and rewarded us with a handful of performances ranging for insufferably narcissistic to downright despicable.

Plot: Two Mormons (Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher) on a mission knock on the wrong door and find themselves fighting for their lives, faith, and sanity.
Review: Heretic is the latest horror flick from A24, and like many of their genre efforts, it’s a provocative one. Questions of theology and faith are always timely, and much of this diabolical and impressively harsh horror film deals with whether or not – in the face of great conflict – you can maintain your faith or be swayed by both the desire to save your own life and the evidence you’re being presented with.
In this, Sister Paxton (Chloe East) and Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) are young Mormons fulfilling their duties as missionaries by essentially going door-to-door to try to convert people to their faith. Neither is a particular stickler for Mormon theology, with the movie opening with them discussing pornography and condoms,...

Hugh Grant is once again mercilessly trolling Colin Firth.
On the promotion tour for A24’s Heretic, Grant renewed friendly fire towards his Bridget Jones co-star by revealing that his idea of “perfect happiness” is a Firth box office bomb.
Asked by Vanity Fair to articulate his vision of bliss, he replied: “Drinking a pint of London Pride while munching Twiglets and reading about Colin Firth having a critical and box office catastrophe.”
Grant and Firth have long enjoyed exchanging mischievous barbs in the public domain after starring in Bridget Jones’s Diary together in 2001.
A stunt by Grant went viral in 2022, when the actor sponsored a chair at BAFTA with a plaque dedicated to Firth that read: “In loving memory of Colin Firth. Not dead yet, but looks it. Sponsored by Hugh Grant.”

From the minds of Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, Heretic starts strong, cooking up a tension-filled thriller with a faith-based twist, but halfway through, the recipe seems to fall apart. The setup is solid, with a well-calibrated blend of tension and Hugh Grant’s unsettlingly disarming charm. But for all its ambition, the film bites off more than it’s willing to chew, delivering theological debates without the promised payoff. Heretic sets the stage for a wickedly clever horror thriller but loses its nerve right as things get interesting.

The story follows two Mormon missionaries, Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Paxton (Chloe East), who arrive at the foreboding home of Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), a reclusive Englishman with a peculiar interest in religion and a suspicious blueberry pie aroma wafting through his candlelit lair.

Venom: The Last Dance To Battle Heretic For #1 This Weekend As Early Moana 2 Projections Splash Down
Venom: The Last Dance is about to enter its third weekend in theaters but will it remain at #1? Deadline believes the threequel is eyeing a $12 million haul, though A24's Hugh Grant-led Heretic could pose a problem for the Lethal Protector.
While the studio is projecting an $8 million opening weekend, exhibitors believe it could make as much, if not more, than the latest Venom movie.
As we reported yesterday, Election Day was a good Tuesday for Venom: The Last Dance as it made an impressive $3.3 million, a 56% rise from Monday. With a running cume of $95.3 million, the movie will cross $100 million tomorrow.
In other box office news, the expectation is that Moana 2 will exceed expectations when it opens over Thanksgiving weekend. As AMC CEO Adam Aron puts it, "Some people in the know are telling me that Moana 2 could eclipse and outshine even the success of Inside Out 2.

Over the last few months, there’s been a lot of buzz about A24’s Heretic, a horror movie that earned rave reviews following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Another week, another ho-hum weekend at the box office. When the studios were figuring out their release schedules for 2024, it seems they deliberately left the pre-and-post election period empty, with the notion being that people would be too distracted to go to movies. That’s pretty bad news for exhibitors, as typically the first full weekend in November kinda kicks off the late fall period. Usually, it’s a big weekend for the MCU, with The Marvels opening last year and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022. I guess next weekend we’re getting Red One, but does anyone expect that to do well? I have my doubts.
As such, this weekend seems slow, with the general consensus among all being that it should be an easy weekend for Venom: The Last Dance to win. It had an impressively light week-to-week decline in week 2 (after an underwhelming opening) and should gross...

Since several decades the horror genre has enjoyed quite a big fan following and popularity with several movies hitting the big screens every now and then. But in this plethora of projects, only a few manage to leave an everlasting impression on the viewers. One such movie was Black Sheep released in 2006, directed by Jonathan King. It presented a very unique combination of horror and comedy with an out-of-the-box storyline.
The movie stars Nathan Meister and presents the plot of genetically modified sheep going on a bloody spree. As soon as it was released, it managed to win the audience over with its quirky horror. Amidst this, fans also wondered if the makers would bring out a sequel to it or not.

Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” has been covered by everyone from Avril Lavigne to the Grateful Dead — and, most famously, by Guns N’ Roses, who made it a hit in the early Nineties. Now, actress-singer Sophie Thatcher is tackling the classic for her upcoming horror film Heretic.
The cover sounds like a lo-fi lullaby, with Thatcher delicately laying down her vocals against slide guitar. “The cover version feels very melancholic and feminine, and more dreamy and atmospheric, whereas [Dylan’s] is far more straightforward,” she tells Rolling Stone. “There...

It can be tricky keeping track of which movies release each week, especially with the holiday season ushering in a tidal wave of awards films and four-quadrant blockbusters. With 2024’s biggest films just around the corner, check out what is coming to theaters in November.
Releasing Nov. 8 is A24’s “Heretic,” a horror thriller about two missionaries entrapped in the mysterious home of a twisted man. The film stars Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, Chloe East and Topher Grace.
Also on Friday, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” arrives in theaters. Starring Kynlee Heiman, Sebastian Billingsley-Rodriguez, Judy Greer and Pete Holmes, the holiday comedy follows six naughty children as they plan to terrorize their town’s yearly Christmas performance.

A24 isn’t done scaring up dollars at the box office as the studio’s horror thriller, Heretic, looks to convert $10M during the film’s box-office launch. Analysts see the chilling feature starring Hugh Grant at $8-10M from 3,200 cinemas, especially if audiences still feel spooky after the Halloween holiday. In contrast, Lionsgate’s faith-based family film The Best Christmas Pageant Ever could pull a cheerful $6 million to $8 million during its debut from 3,000 theaters.
While new films are typically the cat’s pajamas at the box office, analysts predict Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance will take another bite out of the top spot. The symbiotic sequel could drop 40% to 50% from the weekend before, resulting in $13 million to $15 million in upcoming ticket sales. Venom: The Last Dance is holding onto screens after earning $318M worldwide, compared to 2018’s Venom ($856M) and 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage ($506M). The...

“Venom: The Last Dance” may threepeat at the domestic box office despite the presence of two new nationwide releases.
A24’s horror thriller “Heretic” is targeting $8 million to $10 million from 3,200 theaters while Lionsgate’s faith-based family film “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is aiming for $6 million to $8 million from 3,000 venues in their opening weekends. Meanwhile “Venom 3” is expected to drop 40%-50% from the prior weekend, putting ticket sales at $13 million to $15 million in its third outing.
Sony’s “Venom: The Last Dance,” the third and final installment in the Tom Hardy-led comic book trilogy, has generated $91 million in North America and $318 million to date. Though it’s falling short of other entries in the symbiote saga — 2018’s “Venom” powered to $856 million globally and 2021’s “Let There Be Carnage” ended with $506 million worldwide — this entry will be decently positioned in its theatrical run against its $120 million budget.

Hugh Grant is spilling some details about Bridget Jones 4, aka Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
The film will be released on February 12, 2025.
Hugh starred as Daniel Cleaver alongside the Renee Zellweger in the first two films: 2001′s Bridget Jones’s Diary and 2004′s The Edge of Reason. Hugh did not return for 2016′s Bridget Jones’s Baby, but will be in the latest film.
“It’s the one with the most heart,” Hugh said to Extra. “It’s very moving, but also very funny.”
He added that it’s “the best” of the three previous films.
We’re happy to report that several stars from the previous films will be back, but one big star’s name was glaringly left out of the press release and it’s seemingly been confirmed that he’s exiting!

The newly elected US President Donald Trump had made a cameo appearance in a rom-com starring Hugh Grant and the actor barely had time to notice him. Grant shared that Trump appeared in a small role in his movie with Sandra Bullock, Two Weeks Notice. While Trump played himself opposite Grant’s billionaire George Wade, he left no lasting impression on Grant.

Grant explained that Trump did not register with him at that time as he was invested in a bet that he made with co-star Bullock. As plans for a sequel to the rom-com are thrown around, the film has little chance to cast Trump in a returning cameo as he would be busy in the White House.
