"Live or die - make your choice!" Lionsgate has revealed a quick 30-second trailer for their upcoming 20th Anniversary re-release of the horror classic Saw. This is the one that started it all! The beginning of the franchise! The start of a whole new era of horror! Written by Leigh Whannell, and directed by James Wan, Saw originally debuted at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival before later opening in US theaters in October that year. Lionsgate bought the rights and created an entire franchise that has gone on for 10 movies already (Saw X last year). "20 years later and still ready for my close-up." Saw celebrates 20 years with an Unrated nationwide theatrical release October 20 & 23, with bonus content featuring actor Tobin Bell discussing Saw fandom + playing John Kramer. Saw stars Leigh Whannell, Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Monica Potter, Michael Emerson, and Ken Leung. Did anyone know there even was an "Unrated" version of this film?...

Earlier this week, A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin set off a drama bomb when he bluntly criticized HBO's Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon in a blog post. It's clear that he has problems with how the show has adapted his book Fire & Blood. Martin drilled down on how the show's decision to cut a certain character from the book could have negative butterfly effects down the line, and teased that there are "larger and more toxic butterflies to come, if House Of The Dragon goes ahead with some of the changes being contemplated for seasons 3 and 4."
This was surprising to hear because Martin, who's as big a celebrity author as exists right now, has always been very supportive of the TV shows based on his work. He may have expressed a quibble here and there about Game of Thrones when it was running,...

Mel Gibson goes back behind the camera for Flight Risk, with Mark Wahlberg starring. Here’s the first trailer.
Few could accuse Mel Gibson of playing it safe when it comes to picking his directorial projects, from his debut Man Without A Face to the Oscar-winning Braveheart and the terrific Apocalypto to his last feature to date, war drama Hacksaw Ridge.
Mel Gibson moves closer to blockbuster territory with plane based thriller Flight Risk. The synopsis reads as follows:
“Ya’ll need a pilot?” In this high-stakes suspense thriller, Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg plays a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to a trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.

The past several years haven’t been too great for Martin Short’s celebrity-interviewing alter-ego Jiminy Glick. After popping up in the canceled variety series Maya & Marty, Jiminy arguably hit an all-time low when he interviewed “Donald Trump,” as played by Jimmy Fallon, on The Tonight Show.
Play
But the Glick character rebounded in a big way this week, first with a lukewarm roast of Bill Maher, followed by an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where the portly character hilariously questioned Bill Hader about the death of Willie Mays and life at Diddy’s pool house.
According to Short, he didn’t originally create Glick to parody bad journalists, but rather, to satirize “morons with power.” And to further immerse himself in the character, he donned an understandably controversial fat suit, inspired by a scene in the 1991 comedy Pure Luck, in which his character gets stung by a bee and swells up.

Steven Spielberg is an acclaimed and multiple award-winning director in the movie industry. He made his theatrical debut in Hollywood with the 1974 movie, The Sugarland Express. But it took him just one more year to become a blockbuster director with his movie, Jaws. Since then, he has made numerous movies that have been critically as well as commercially successful. His movies have also earned him the title of the most commercially successful director in film history.

There are plenty of great Clint Eastwood movie moments in "Escape from Alcatraz," but it's not just the veteran star that made this a legendary prison break thriller. Directed by Don Siegel, the film was an adaptation of J. Campbell Bruce's 1963 non-fiction book of the same name, which chronicled the real-life June 1962 Alcatraz escape attempt. "Escape" also marked the fifth and final collaboration between the Siegel and Eastwood, and it's a fitting end to their fruitful working relationship. Still regarded as one of the finest films of the 1970s, "Escape" was met with widespread critical acclaim upon its 1979 release and its reputation hasn't faltered since.
Aside from the tight direction and excellent lead performance, the film also features stellar supporting performances from the likes of Patrick McGoohan, Fred Ward, Jack Thibeau, and Larry Hankin. What's more, it marked the film debut of Danny Glover, who of course went on...

Before director Richard Donner passed away back in July of 2021, he had been developing a fifth and final entry in the Lethal Weapon film franchise, saying that he, as the director of the first four films, had a “privilege and duty to put it to bed.” When Donner died, he passed that duty over to franchise star Mel Gibson – not a bad choice, given that Gibson has directed some major box office hits himself, and won the Best Director Oscar for Best Picture winner Braveheart. Back in 2022, Gibson assured us that Lethal Weapon 5 is going to happen one of these days. Now, during an interview on the Inspire Me podcast, Gibson has revealed that he has gotten the screenplay – which has been worked on by the likes of Richard Wenk (The Equalizer) and Jez Butterworth (Edge of Tomorrow) – to a point where he’s happy with it.

Just for some perspective, Danny Glover was only 40 years old when he delivered the classic line as Roger Murtaugh in the original "Lethal Weapon," "I'm too old for this s**t." That was in 1987 and, well, here we are all these years later as the buddy-cop franchise just refuses to go silently into that good night. We've received three sequels over the years with varying degrees of diminishing returns This latest update, however, might just have you wishing that it did end up retiring for good.
Rumors of "Lethal Weapon 5" have been swirling around for decades -- at one point, the original creative trio of Glover, Mel Gibson, and director Richard Donner were eager to take a crack at a fifth film back in 2017. It’s definite: Lethal Weapon 5 is going to happen, according to Mel Gibson – and he’s going to direct it too.
The latest film from Mel Gibson as director arrives in cinemas this October. It’s called Flight Risk, and stars Mark Wahlberg in the lead role, with Lionsgate set to distribute the movie. After that, Gibson has his long-mooted follow-up to The Passion Of The Christ that he’s plotting to direct. Following that? It looks like he’s turning his attention to another project that’s been on the stove for a long, long time: Lethal Weapon 5.
Before he died in 2021, director Richard Donner had been planning to make the fifth film himself, having directed each of the others in the series. Following his death at the age of 91, it seemed that plans for Lethal Weapon 5 had been retired at that stage.

USA Network is returning to the legal drama arena with The Rainmaker, based on the bestselling John Grisham novel and its film adaptation. The project, from writer Michael Seitzman (Code Black), Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television, has received a series order by the NBCUniversal cable network, capping a six-year journey by Seitzman to bring the book to television.
This marks USA Network’s first new scripted series in awhile as part of a planned relaunch as a destination for scripted originals. The network currently shares Chucky with Syfy, which is on the bubble for a Season 4 renewal. It also is in advanced negotiations to pick up Syfy’s Resident Alien, which, as Deadline reported exclusively, is poised to become a USA original.

It's "Alien" vs. "Predator" all over again. As the next installment of the classic horror franchise is set to arrive later this year with "Alien: Romulus," the rival "Predator" series is gearing up for a revival of its own. Director Dan Trachtenberg's "Prey" injected fresh blood into the IP in 2022, stripping away all the flashy bells and whistles from Shane Black's messy sequel and instead taking things back in time to colonial America. In fact, the Hulu film earned such glowing praise that it led to a buzzy announcement earlier this year, when we heard the promising news that 20th Century Studios would be bringing Trachtenberg back for more movies to come. At the time, all that was revealed was the title of the next planned feature -- "Badlands" -- but now we know which actor has been handpicked to lead Trachtenberg's new film.

Elle Fanning is going from great to bad. The actor known for The Great is in talks to star in Badlands, a new movie set in The Predator universe, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The Badlands is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the filmmaker who revamped the franchise with the 20th Century and Hulu feature Prey, which was set in 1719 and starred breakout Amber Midthunder as a young Comanche woman pitted against an alien hunter. The film was a critical success and broke viewing records for Hulu.
Trachtenberg reteamed with Prey scribe Patrick Aison for the Badlands story, with Aison penning the script. THR reported in February that in addition to Badlands, 20th Century has a number of Predator projects in development, with Trachtenberg at the center of a growing universe. 20th Century had no comment.

Back in 2004, the world saw Simon Pegg-starring hit movie that paved the way for all modern zombie comedies. Indeed, Shaun of the Dead was so influential for the genre that the tropes used in it can be found in a number of other zom-coms, such as Jesse Eisenberg’s Zombieland (2009) and Nicholas Hoult’s Warm Bodies (2013).
Pegg’s comedy managed to become classics of the 21st century, and it’s proved by its 92% Tomatometer. The 2019 comedy that is now holding the seventh place in HBO’s global top was not so successful, even though it seems to stick to the same formula.
The film is set in a small peaceful town, where something obscure starts happening one seemingly usual night. The dead are about to rise from their graves and terrorize the locals, who don’t know how to confront the danger of numerous zombie attacks.

Here are 7 actions of the 80s to relax while watching them.

Another action star of the 80s is Sylvester Stallone, the lead of the action-packed Rambo franchise. Its first installment centered on John Rambo, a war veteran, who is forced to rely on his combat skills while he is surviving a massive manhunt held by police.

“Definitely the most challenging thing I’ve had to do thus far as an actor, a lot of mental gymnastics involved,” Jharrel Jerome admits about the uniqueness of his role in the Boots Riley-created absurdist series I’m A Virgo, on which he plays a previously extremely sheltered 13-foot-tall Oakland teen. “At no point do I look my scene partners in the eye, and as an actor that’s so critical, you know, as connection.”
Jerome, an Emmy winner for When They See Us, was joined by Riley and co-stars Olivia Washington and Walton Goggins, plus costume designer Deirdra E. Govan, for a conversation about their series at Deadline Studio at Prime Experience.

After nearly 35 years, the "Predator" franchise is still going strong. Despite a fair share of disappointment during its seven-film (and counting) run, every decade produces a strong chapter that reinvigorates interest in the mysterious alien hunters. John McTiernan's muscle-bound 1987 creature feature starring Arnold Schwarzenegger remains the best. Still, more recent offerings like Nimród Antal's 2010 sequel "Predators" and Dan Trachtenberg's 2022 prequel "Prey" have closed the gap and provided hope for future entries.
Delightfully R-rated, the "Predator" series follows a group of elite alien warriors, brought to life with incredible special effects, who venture to different planets to test themselves against the best killers they can find. Curiously, none of the films have allowed a Predator to claim victory over their most formidable foes, though they do enjoy minor victories that make way for some nasty spine-ripping action. To date, we've seen Predator eliminate its victims in various ways...

(L-r) Shirley MacLaine as Astrid and Peter Dinklage as Phil Loder, in American Dreamer. Courtesy of Vertical
In the comedy American Dreamer, Peter Dinklage plays a curmudgeonly college professor with a dream to buy a home far beyond his limited means, while Shirley MacLaine plays a wealthy retiree who has just such a fabulous home for sale for an unbelievable price – with one big catch. Loosely inspired – very loosely – by real events, the major delight of this sometimes crazy comedy is in the pairing of Dinklage and MacLaine, who make a perfect, and perfectly insane, comedy duo in this film.
Dinklage plays Dr. Phil Loder who teaches economics from a sociological view at a small college. Loder may teach economics but his own economics are pretty dismal for a professor of the dismal science. Underpaid and twice-divorced, he doesn’t have tenure, and he can’t even seem to get...

One of the most iconic science fiction action franchises is "Predator," which began with the eponymous movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987. While "Predator" is regarded as an action classic, attempts to follow-up on its success have since had considerably more mixed results. The series has seen a number of sequels, revivals, and crossovers with the "Alien" franchise, with varying levels of critical and commercial reception. However, for every "Predator" movie that has seen the light of day, there are plenty of projects that were canceled or altered significantly.
From failed attempts to bring Schwarzenegger back in the fold to star in additional installments or sequel plans shelved by disappointing box office, there are lots of discarded "Predator" movies. This includes the studio shuffling pitches and filmmakers in their hopes to keep the franchise relevant and recapture the 1987 movie's magic. American Dreamer deserves better than it has gotten. Shot three years ago during the pandemic this delirously black comedy premiered at Tribeca 2022 and got lost in the crowd. The filmmakers including first time feature director Paul Dektor and screenwriter/producer Theodore Melfi decided to then hold it back and recut and tighten it eliminating 10 minutes of the original running time. In early 2023 it turned up at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, still largely ignored, and then its distribution hunt was further delayed by the Hollywood strikes. Finally Vertical has wisely picked it up and it will be opening in theatres and VOD Friday.
I saw the Tribeca cut and I have seen the final cut. Both worked for me but it was great to experience it a second time in an actual theatre with a very appreciative audience. Comedies work best that way and this one...

The dubious ideology known as the “American dream” might have lost its meaning amid today’s economic conditions, when making rent each month counts as a triumph for most. But in debuting director Paul Dektor’s occasionally amusing yet messy dark comedy, “American Dreamer,” untenured East Coast economics professor Dr. Phil Loder (Peter Dinklage) holds onto its antiquated gist for dear life, indignantly teaching his subject with an idealist pursuit-of-happiness angle and fantasizing about the day he would proudly buy his very own house.
The trouble is, Dr. Phil (a nickname he detests) doesn’t quite have the means for the property of his dreams — not a modestly comfortable condo or anything, but a giant mansion that would set him back a few million dollars. Still, that doesn’t stop him from frequenting open houses at the kinds of homes he definitely can’t afford and sipping champagne among more qualified buyers.

"Do you wish death upon her?" "Not tomorrow..." Vertical has revealed the official trailer for an indie film titled American Dreamer, now set for release in March this year. This film originally premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival a few years ago, and has been stuck in release limbo ever since. Which is not a good sign. "What do we need to be happy? What do we want? And ultimately - how far are we willing to go, to get it?" Economics professor Phillip Loder poses these questions to his grad students as he ponders these thoughts. Phil is a twice-divorced, frustrated, underpaid professor, as well as an aspiring novelist, clamoring for bigger, better things in his life. He finds a hard-to-believe good deal on a masnion estate and jumps at the offer, hoping he'll strike it rich – only to quickly realize it really is too good to be true.
