Emily Mortimer and Alessandro Nivola’s King Bee Productions has struck a multi-year first look deal with Sony.

The husband-and-wife duo’s production outfit will develop and produce scripted TV shows in various formats globally for Sony’s International Production group and U.S. studio. King Bee previously had a similar deal with eOne, which has now run down.

King Bee produced two seasons of HBO-Sky series Doll & Em and the Tribeca Film Festival Audience Award Winner and Film Independent Spirit Award nominated feature To Dust starring Matthew Broderick and Geza Rohrig. Its team includes Lizzie Nastro, former head of acquisitions for IFC and producer of Crystal Moselle’s Skate Kitchen, serving as Head of Film and Television, while Sam Schlaifler is VP of Development.

Mortimer recently co-wrote the upcoming untitled Noah Baumbach feature for Netflix, while Nivola will next star opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the Sony/Marvel feature Kraven the Hunter.

Over the years, Sex and the City has become synonymous with Sarah Jessica Parker, whose portrayal of Carrie Bradshaw became iconic over the show’s six seasons. With the series and films focusing on her girl gang’s closeness and her love life, there were a lot of cameos from many popular actors. However, the one face that everyone expected to see was the 59-year-old’s husband, Matthew Broderick. Unfortunately, that was just a fever dream that never ended up coming true.

Although Broderick never made an appearance on the show or in the films, it was not from the producer’s and Parker’s lack of trying. In fact, the 62-year-old recently opened up about a role that was offered to him that he had turned down.

There are a couple of reasons, he told James Corden on his This Life of Mine Sirius Xm Show (via People). Scheduling conflicts were one. “Whenever there was a part that I could do,” he claimed, “I couldn’t do it is really all that happened.”

But it might have had more to do with a second reason — the kinds of roles the show was offering him. “Sometimes, it was like, ‘Do you want to do two days as the premature ejaculator?’ And I’d be like, ‘You know, I don’t know, it’s just kind of embarrassing.

The actor and husband of Sarah Jessica Parker, who starred in the HBO series, stopped by James Corden’s This Life of Mine show on SiriusXM. During his conversation with the former late night host, the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star was asked if it was true he was asked to be in the romance drama multiple times and opted not to.

“Whenever there was a part that I could do, I couldn’t do it is really all that happened,” he explained. “But also sometimes, it was like, ‘Do you want to do two days as the premature ejaculator?’ And I’d be like, ‘You know, I don’t know. It’s just kind of embarrassing.’”

While it would’ve seemed likely that Parker approached him about guest starring in her show, that was never the case.

Matthew Broderick revealed if he ever had an offer to appear alongside his wife Sarah Jessica Parker on Sex and the City.

The beloved series debuted in 1998, a year after the Hollywood couple tied the knot. It spawned two blockbuster movies and spinoff series And Just Like That, which is still going strong in 2024.

The Primetime Emmys air on Sunday night, September 15, on ABC, but that’s not where most of the awards will actually be handed out. The vast majority will go out at the Creative Arts Awards over two nights this weekend on September 7 and September 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. So who will win? Gold Derby users have placed their bets in 31 categories here in our predictions center. Those predictions have been combined to generate our official racetrack odds. There will be 50 awards presented on Saturday’s show focusing on animation, reality, variety, and nonfiction programming. Another 49 trophies go out during the Sunday festivities focused primarily on craft achievements in dramas, comedies, TV movies and limited series. The final 25 awards will be bestowed on September 15 during the telecast hosted by father-and-son Emmy winners Eugene Levy and Dan Levy.

Midway through the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building, NYPD Detective Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) complains once again about how true-crime podcasters Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) keep stumbling their way into and through murder investigations. Her objection isn’t just to these three civilians consistently putting themselves in danger and interfering with the work of real police, but with the shoddiness of their sleuthing, which this time around has produced so many suspects that they need multiple murder boards to fit them all.

While most of the prediction thought and energy when forecasting the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards goes to the big-ticket honors for comedy, drama and limited series, there are no fewer than 99 additional categories for which statuettes will be handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 7 and 8 at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Now that Season 4 is upon us, I thought I would reflect a bit on what keeps me tuning into this quirky little show week after week.

The short answer to that is Mabel Mora, played by Selena Gomez.

I’m not a Selenator and I have no interest in Gomez’s personal life or struggles. That’s her business.

What I do care about is how much enjoyment I get out of watching Gomez play Mabel and why we need more of her and fewer distractions that take away from the dynamic that made the show so appealing to begin with.

Alexander Payne’s Election is a movie whose reputation seems to be growing more and more each year. With a new Criterion Collection edition in stores (and the film celebrating its 25th anniversary), Payne and the film’s writer, Jim Taylor have recently been exploring a potential sequel. The original film was based on a novel by Tom Perrotta, and the sequel would be based on his most recent novel, Tracy Flick Can’t Win.

According to a recent interview in Deadline, Payne is seriously considering teaming with Payne to adapt the sequel, saying, “There is talk and Jim Taylor and I are conceding that now,” with him adding, “If there were to be a sequel to Election, what would that look like?”

The original film starred Matthew Broderick as a high school Social Studies teacher who becomes hellbent on destroying her campaign for student body president at her high school.

Not only does the man exude effortless on-screen charisma in a way few others have, he's proven he can play pretty much anything you throw at him. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is one of the best teen movies of all time, but it also (perhaps purposely) tells its story from a very privileged point-of-view. I adore the John Hughes classic, yet the last few times I've watched it, I've been struck by how terribly Ferris (Matthew Broderick) treats the customer service workers he meets throughout the film. It's all a part of his schtick; to craft the perfect day off, he has to get access to all sorts of fun stuff, and the quickest way to do that is by putting on a haughty, rich-white guy persona that he probably learned from his dad.

But this year, if Gold Derby’s Creative Arts predictions turn out to be accurate, there won’t be too many people with their jaws on the floor.

“The Bear” guest stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Jon Bernthal currently have overwhelming leads to win their two respective races for playing Donna Berzatto and Michael Berzatto, aka the mother and brother of Jeremy Allen White‘s Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto. Curtis enjoys 82/25 odds to prevail, while Bernthal is sitting pretty at 37/10 odds. Interestingly enough, both actors have submitted the episode “Fishes” for Emmy consideration — that’s the Christmas flashback hour from Season 2 which featured countless shouting matches and emotional moments.

Ryan Gosling‘s episode of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” from April instantly went viral, thanks in no small part to his habit of laughing during many (all?) of his sketches. “Beavis and Butt-Head” with Mikey Day, “Close Encounter Cold Open” with Kate McKinnon, “The Engagement” with Andrew Dismukes, “Doctor” with Bowen Yang, “Erin Brockovich” with Chloe Fineman … the list goes on and on.
