In the new documentary “Bogart: Life Comes in Flashes,” the late actor himself does most of the talking. “Acting is a nice racket,” he says. “The words ‘movie star’ are so misused they have no meaning. The studios can make anyone a star if they get behind them. That’s why I don’t kid myself, why I can’t take myself or the business seriously.”
Born 125 years ago this December, the “Casablanca” star remains one of the most recognizable icons of the silver screen. Those careworn features full of irony and pathos, that ever-present trenchcoat and fedora, are as familiar as Marilyn Monroe standing over a subway grate or Audrey Hepburn clutching a cigarette holder. But when director Kathryn Ferguson was approached to make a feature-length documentary about his life, she knew she wanted to get behind the actor’s movie star façade.

‘Queen of the Ring’ Filmmakers and Bob Mackie Honored at Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival
The 2024 Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival opened Nov. 8 with a screening of “Queen of the Ring,” writer-director Ash Avildsen’s biopic of female wrestler Mildred Burke starring Emily Bett Rickards, Josh Lucas, Walton Goggins and Gavin Casalegno. Marking the festival’s 39th year, the film commenced ten days of programming across seven South Florida venues, including the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to costume designer Bob Mackie.
Speaking from the red carpet Friday night, Fliff chair Lisa Grigorian thrilled at this year’s programming. “We are so excited for this year’s festival,” Grigorian said. “We’ve got a hundred films from 35 countries — something for everybody.”
Attending the festival for the first time, “Queen of the Ring” costar Casalegno spoke about what resonated with him in Burke’s true life story. “I really wanted to make films that will make the world a better place, and I wanted to...

I have to say, I love Jennifer Lopez’s Unstoppable press tour looks! In contrast to her usual stunning, sometimes glittery red carpet gowns, the outfit selection for her new project’s promotion is more sophisticated and timeless yet still seductive and playful.

Unstoppable, produced by her ex-husband Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s production company Artists Equity, is a biographical sports drama about Anthony Robles, a one-legged wrestling champion. J.Lo plays Robles’ inspiring mom, Judy, who helped him overcome the odds to win the NCAA wrestling title.
Unstoppable will debut on Prime Video on January 16, 2025, following a limited theatrical release on December 6.

The Kennedy Heir Who Looks Like Dennis Reynolds Still Won’t Admit That He Looks Like Dennis Reynolds
Writer, political correspondent and social media sensation John Bouvier Kennedy "Jack" Schlossberg insists that he bears no resemblance to Penn Badgley or Adam Driver, but he’ll likely never try to claim that he doesn’t have a little Dennis Reynolds in him — because of the implication.
Earlier this year, the 31-year-old son of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg quickly rose to online stardom for posting silly, shirtless and irreverent Instagram videos where he danced to Rihanna and mocked his cousin, former presidential candidate and current Donald Trump crony Robert F. Kennedy Jr. As is the Kennedy family tradition, Schlossberg’s meteoric ascent to the top of every left-leaning, twenty-to-thirty-something white woman’s Twitter feed was largely due to his curious charisma and his chiseled appearance, and the comments from his nearly half-million Instagram followers are typically less concerned with his political commentary in Vogue than they are with the various other celebrities he resembles.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s became one of the most critically acclaimed films in actress Audrey Hepburn’s career upon its release in 1961. The romantic comedy film based on author Truman Capote’s 1958 novel of the same name was nominated for five Academy Awards, including a Best Actress nod for Hepburn.

Despite the recognition she received for the role, Hepburn wasn’t the first or the right choice for the role according to Capote. In an interview, Capote explained his reasoning behind preferring a different actress for the lead role in the adaptation of his novel. Meanwhile, Hepburn also doubted if she was the right choice for the film, and here is what the two had to say.

As long as there are rapacious billionaires and corrupt politicians hoarding wealth and making life miserable for the less fortunate, there will always be a need for the Robin Hood folk tale. The Sherwood Forest-dwelling outlaw who stole from the rich and gave to the poor has been depicted in films since Douglas Fairbanks slung a bow over his shoulder and strapped on a spiffy pair of tights in the 1922 landmark silent production "Robin Hood." Michael Curtiz delivered what still stands as the platonic ideal of a Robin Hood movie in 1938 with the Errol Flynn-starring "The Adventures of Robin Hood," but there have been other worthy takes on the character over the years, most notably Disney's 1973 animated film "Robin Hood" and Richard Lester's poignant 1976 romance "Robin and Marian" starring Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn.

Mikey Madison has the potential to make history at the 2025 Oscars in Best Actress with Neon’s “Anora.” At the age of 25, she is receiving universal praise for her portrayal of the title character, a Brooklyn stripper who gets into a whirlwind, impetuous marriage. Sean Baker‘s wild romantic dramedy is continuing to gain massive buzz since winning the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and Madison is currently headlined at the top of the combined odds at Gold Derby to win Best Actress. Should it occur, she would be the ninth youngest Best Actress Oscar winner and the first since over a decade ago.

Well, well, well, the writers at Elsbeth are making sure they are one step ahead of viewers’ expectations. Rather than waiting until the finale again, audiences got a genuine murder mystery as a change of pace.
Despite the series’ formulaic approach, with episodic murderers and the typical case-of-the-week format, the hands behind the show continue to find ways to add pink sprinkles of chaos.
Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 3 brought us another suspect we will never forget. And we already know the show isn’t afraid to bring back a familiar face or two.
(Michael Parmelee/CBS)
And while “Devil’s Night” was an apt title for the Elsbeth episode, how much more fun would it have been if it was “Dude, Where’s My Gun?” or “Eternal Nighttime of the Blacked-Out Mind?”
Elsbeth tends to bring out the camp in people.

Saoirse Ronan just put into words what women have to go through on almost a daily basis.
Throughout the years, we have come to terms with the fact that the world is simply not a safe place for women. The thoughts of being attacked or taken advantage of are constantly lurking in the back of our minds. It is this fear that draws women to learn self-defense and come up with ridiculous ideas to save themselves from a potential attacker, even if it means turning something as harmless as a mobile phone into a weapon.

Thus, when Paul Mescal joked about the potential use of mobile phones to fend off an attacker, Saoirse Ronan was not impressed. Despite the couch laughing at his joke, it didn’t take the actress long to silence the guests with her nonchalant yet extremely thought-provoking remark.

Shirley MacLaine is making a ghastly racket. It sounds like a combination of retching and the “aack” noise that the protagonist of that old “Cathy” comic strip used to make whenever she was nauseated, horrified, infuriated or you name it. We’re discussing an encounter that MacLaine had with Donald Trump in the ’80s, when she went to look at an apartment in one of his buildings. “In his head, I could see he was undressing himself and me, and I got out of there very fast,” MacLaine writes in her new book, “The Wall of Life: Pictures and Stories From This Marvelous Lifetime.”
MacLaine is even more animated when I ask her what she made of the real estate developer turned Maga leader. “Did you hear me shriek?” she asks. “I think that says it all.” She pauses for dramatic effect before delivering a final, emphatic: “Yuck!”
Even at 90, MacLaine,...

It's not all that surprising that, in a more than 30-year run, "The Simpsons" has undergone major transformations. When the series debuted in 1989, it stoked the ire of conservative figures who were dismayed by a show that seemed to celebrate dysfunctional families and featured a bratty kid who was proud of his own insubordination. The most obvious example was when President George W. Bush famously stated in a 1992 speech that he wanted American families to be "a lot more like the Waltons and a lot less like the Simpsons."
But by the end of the '90s, the Fox show had lost some of its subversive edge, and not just because it had slowly been subsumed by mainstream culture. In 1999 -- ten years after "The Simpsons" debuted, and on the exact same network -- "Family Guy" arrived and was immediately more brash,...

Variety honored some of the most influential and accomplished women in entertainment at its Power of Women event on Thursday, Oct. 24, in LA. Celebrity guests, including Selma Blair, Amy Poehler, and Elizabeth Banks, went all out with gala-appropriate outfits, some more traditional than others. As the evening unfolded, Kate Beckinsale took home the unofficial award for most unusual look. Fans found her blank stare and ballerina doll style a little “out there” for such an esteemed event. Regardless, the Serendipity star turned heads.

From the mid-1950s through the early 1970s, many lavish Broadway musicals were successfully adapted to film, from “The King and I” to “West Side Story” to “Cabaret.” One of the most successful and enduring of all time premiered on October 21, 1964, when “My Fair Lady” hit the theaters after much anticipation, drawing people to the box office in droves despite its lengthy near-three-hour run time. Read on for more about the “My Fair Lady” 60th anniversary.
The origin of “My Fair Lady” dates back farther than the 1956 Tony-winning play. Music collaborators Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe were inspired by George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play “Pygmalion,” the tale of Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle who takes speech lessons from Professor Henry Higgins in order to pass as a “proper lady.” The two men thought it would be “loverly” to turn the story into a musical, and wrote the book for “My Fair Lady,...

Add Ryan Murphy to the list of Hollywood power players advocating for more production in Los Angeles. The executive producer and showrunner behind such hits as “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” “American Horror Story” and “9-1-1” has scheduled a meeting with California Gov. Gavin Newsom to help remedy this production problem.
“My company makes a lot of shows. We employ thousands and thousands of people, and I love that. For the most part, we’re trying to get people back to work in California post-strikes,” Murphy told TheWrap as part of a recent interview about his stellar run of series in 2024. “L.A. does not have enough film production. It’s not acceptable.”
The mega-producer confirmed he has set a meeting with Newsom, whom he called “very cool” and “a friend of mine.” “[I’m] going to really try and do everything that I can, because I think film and...

Horror fans rejoice! After being removed from Netflix, where it was originally released in 2016 following its premiere at SXSW that year, Mike Flanagan’s edge-of-your-seat thriller, “Hush,” is finally receiving a U.S. theatrical release. This news comes a month after it was announced that the film would also get its first physical release on 4K, featuring both a restored version of the original cut, as well as a new black-and-white “Shush Cut” with remixed audio, which premiered at Beyond Fest on September 27. The film is also now available to stream on Shudder.
“Hush” was co-written by Flanagan’s wife and longtime collaborator, Katie Siegel, who also stars in the film. She plays a deaf writer who retreats to the woods to work in solitude, only to find herself under attack by a masked killer. Known for its unique and chilling soundscape, the film toggles back and forth between the...

The poster for Weekend in Taipei bills it as “From the creator of Taken and The Transporter”. That’s another way of saying Luc Besson, who co-wrote both of those hits with Robert Mark Kamen, co-wrote this film’s script. However, his co-writer this time is the film’s director George Huang, who seems like an odd choice having not directed since he helmed several episodes of American Heiress in 2007. His last credit as a writer was the faux sequel Hard Target 2 in 2016.

Ah, 2004—a year when Friends was saying its final goodbye, mini skirts were the fashion statement, and a celebrity couple lit up the headlines: Tom Cruise and Penélope Cruz. Their romance shone bright like a neon sign, but just as quickly, it dimmed, allegedly due to a dash of ex-drama.

What do you get when you cross a glossy all-star business drama with a kinky Italian horror flick, a German crime procedural, and “Fiddler on the Roof?” That insane mix may sound too good to be true, but it’s not — it’s a movie that actually exists. It’s called “Bloodline,” it was released by Paramount in 1979, and after years of intermittent accessibility on home video, it’s now available in a beautiful Blu-ray edition from the boutique label Vinegar Syndrome.
At the time of its release, “Bloodline” wasn’t a success by any criteria, but it was a major release thanks to an international cast consisting of Audrey Hepburn, Ben Gazzara, James Mason, Romy Schneider, Omar Sharif, Beatrice Straight (just a few years after her Oscar-winning turn in “Network”), Irene Papas and others. One of the brightest bulbs in the New Hollywood marquee was former film critic and historian Peter Bogdanovich. Exploding onto the scene in 1968 with the still-topical mass-shooter thriller “Targets,” Bogdanovich followed this breakout success with a slew of successful films, including “The Last Picture Show,” which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director, the screwball comedy “What’s Up, Doc?,” and the Depression-set road movie “Paper Moon.”
But for as much success as he could find early on in his career, what goes up must come down, and during the latter half of the 1970s, he struggled to keep his initial spark aflame. Finally, moving further away from the studio system, Bogdanovich scaled back his approach, shooting an adaptation of Paul Theroux’s “Saint Jack” on location in Singapore with German cinematographer Robby Müller and actor Ben Gazzara. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are the latest artists to achieve Egot status, winning the Emmy for best original music and lyrics for their Only Murders in the Building composition, alongside Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?.”
The duo, who took home the trophy Sunday, during the second night of the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys, beat out fellow nominees Sara Bareilles for Girls5eva‘s “The Medium Time”; the Saturday Night Live team of Eli Brueggemann, Maya Rudolph, Auguste White, Mike Dicenzo and Jake Nordwind for “Mother” from the variety series’ Mother’s Day episode; The Tattooist of Auschwitz‘s Hans Zimmer, Kara Talve, Walter Afanasieff and Charlie Midnight for “Love Will Survive” and True Detective: Night Country‘s John Hawkes for “No Use.”

Composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul just won their first Emmy Awards at Sunday night’s Creative Arts ceremony, making them the 20th and 21st people ever to achieve an Egot. They won in the Best Music and Lyrics category alongside Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman for their catchy tune “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” from “Only Murders in the Building.” They were up against song nominees from “Girls5eva,” “Saturday Night Live,” “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” and “True Detective: Night Country.” Enjoy watching our interview with Pasek, Paul, Shaiman and Wittman from earlier this summer.
The duo’s previous Egot wins began in 2016 when they, along with composer Justin Hurwitz, won the Oscar for Best Original Song for “La La Land.” They won the Tony in 2017 for their score from that year’s Best Musical champ, “Dear Evan Hansen.” In 2018 they won the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album for that same show.

The idea of a non-linear time-spanning look at a marriage is not new. The absolute pinnacle of the idea still to me is director Stanley Donen’s and writer Fredric Raphael’s wonderfully sophisticated 1967 comedy Two For the Road, in which Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney flip back and forth in the course of their 12-year marriage. It was so ahead of its time, not just with the idea but in the editing technique used throughout. An absolute classic that didn’t get its full due in its day.
Now the latest in this subgenre is We Live In Time, the romantic comedy from director John Crowley and writer Nick Payne, which attempts to chronicle the decade-old relationship and marriage between Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield). The style isn’t as tricky as Two For the Road’s, but what it undeniably shares in common...

1958 was quite the year for French novelist Françoise Sagan, who had not one but two film versions of her works given the Hollywood treatment: A Certain Smile and Bonjour Tristesse. The latter was directed by Otto Preminger to mixed reviews despite a starry cast including David Niven, Deborah Kerr and newcomer Jean Seberg who had made her debut in Preminger’s Saint Joan the year before. She was enthralling, but the Preminger take of Sagan’s coming-of-age tale set on the French Riviera is largely forgotten today. Both studio films had the feel of a lavish soap so popular for these widescreen romantic dramas of the time. Now we have a new take.
Though Bonjour Tristesse has also since been made a couple of times for French TV, this is the first major international film version since Preminger’s, and it is a gorgeous-looking, quite lilting tale of an 18-year-old...

While some actors have been unhappily swept up in the franchise machine, Winona Ryder has consistently been choosy in the parts she's accepted throughout her career. This ability to say "no" was hard won, however, especially when the actor was in her twenties and just coming off of films like Beetlejuice and Heathers.

There really hasn’t been a filmmaker quite like Blake Edwards. He could go from the silly-billy comedy of his “Pink Panther” comedies starring Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau to “Days of Wine and Roses,” a devastating drama dealing with alcoholism to the gender-bender musical comedy “Victor/Victoria” starring his wife Julie Andrews to the underrated Western “The Wild Rovers” with William Holden and Ryan O’Neal. Edwards even turned the diminutive British comedian Dudley Moore into a leading man thanks to his 1979 romantic comedy “10.” And let’s not forget the extraordinary collaboration he had with composer Henry Mancini who earned four Oscars including best song “Moon River” from 1961’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and the title tune from 1962’s “Days of Wine and Roses.”
Still, there was no love lost between Edwards and Hollywood.

It’s time for Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) to update her language-learning app, because our favorite American in Paris is headed to a new European destination in Emily in ParisSeason 4: Rome. And now you can watch the trailer featuring Emily living her best Roman Holiday life before Part 2 launches on Sept. 12.
Emily’s trip to Rome is not the only Audrey Hepburn tribute this season, as Emily channels the star’s Charade ski outfit during a Part 2 trip to the Alps. Explains creator Darren Star, “I’ve always felt this wonderful kinship between not just Lily and Audrey Hepburn, but the spirit of those movies, that ‘Old Hollywood’ feeling, and Emily in Paris. I think Audrey Hepburn captured it so well in her movies like Roman Holiday and Charade. Her movies were romantic comedies and they were sophisticated and international.”

As Emily Cooper continues her journey in Season 4 Part 2 of Emily in Paris, viewers are in for a treat as the beloved American navigates new adventures in Rome. Starring Lily Collins, the upcoming episodes promise a mix of romance, travel, and drama, with Emily enjoying her Roman holiday to the fullest.
In these new episodes, Emily will take a trip to the Alps, where she channels her inner Audrey Hepburn, donning a ski costume inspired by the actress’s look in Charade. This is just one of the many nods to Hepburn throughout the series, which creator Darren Star has said captures the spirit of ‘Old Hollywood’ films like Roman Holiday and Charade. Star sees a special connection between Lily Collins and Audrey Hepburn, with both embodying the charm and sophistication that define classic romantic comedies.
The series continues to explore the complex relationships at the heart of the story.

A flighty caper is pinned down by the chemistry between its legendary leads: Hepburn has arguably never been funnier, with Grant in his silver fox era
Equal parts romcom, spy film and Givenchy showcase, Charade has remained one of cinema’s frothiest romantic thrillers for more than 60 years.
At its centre is a luminous Audrey Hepburn, cast against her typical onscreen persona in her first suspense film (though still draped in lavish custom outfits). No longer the wide-eyed ingenue introduced Roman Holiday (1953) and Sabrina (1954), she plays Regina “Reggie” Lambert, a jaded woman looking to end her loveless marriage – until her husband suddenly turns up dead, having taken a coveted $250,000 fortune (inflation!) to his grave. Reggie soon finds herself pursued across Paris by a gang of scenery-chewing ex-cronies, as well as Cary Grant’s Peter Joshua, a silver fox who offers a sturdy shoulder to cry on (and his own covert...

One of the most vibrant and snappy scores this Emmy season is for Apple TV+’s Kristen Wiig comedy series Palm Royale, a complete homage to the Henry Mancini-Latin jazz-infused 1960s swinging era soundtracks (which by the way this series is set in). The most immediate reference that comes to mind is Mancini’s toe-tapping score for the 1963 Audrey Hepburn movie Charade.
‘Palm Royale’
It just so happens that Palm Royale composer Jeff Toyne has a Mancini connection — which he talks about here on today’s Crew Call.
The Canadian composer and USC film music grad grew up being schooled by the great Oscar winner Jerry Goldsmith, which we also chat about here.
Toyne’s career has spanned 25 years as a composer on such indie pics like Life on the Line with John Travolta and Sharon Stone, and Dirty Girl with Juno Temple, Milla Jovovich and William H. Macy,...

There’s a good chance you’ve seen her name emblazoned on screen in at least one of the hundreds of opening titles that bear her name. Considered one of film history’s great costume designers, Edith Head began working for Paramount Pictures in 1924. In 1982, her name was still appearing on screen with the posthumous release of the Steve Martin comedy Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, which was dedicated to her memory. She initially made waves in the late 1930s for her association with the sarong dress (designed for Dorothy Lamour) and made history in 1938 when she became the first female head of a major studio's costume department after designer Travis Banton’s departure from Paramount. The establishment of the Academy Award for Costume Design in 1949 helped further introduce costume designers to the general public and led to a record-breaking run of nominations and wins for Head.

‘General Hospital’ (Gh) spoilers reveal that on August 1, 1997, a new resident came to Port Charles. A young, pretty, and rebellious teenager named Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) arrived on the scene as the daughter of Jeff Webber (Richard Dean Anderson) and Carolyn Webber (Denise Crosby).
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Rebecca Almost Wasn’t Cast On Gh
She’s also the granddaughter of Steve Hardy (John Beradino) and Audrey Hardy (Rachel Ames). Liz came to town to live with Audrey and her sister, Sarah Webber (Jennifer Sky).
Rebecca almost wasn’t cast on Gh. She initially tested for the role of Sarah, but she didn’t get the part. However, the writers were so impressed by her that they wrote a new part specifically to suit her.
That’s how she got the role of Liz. Rebecca started to shine as an actress after her character was raped. Liz’s personality drastically changed after that happened.

Like Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese before him, Jon M. Chu is sharing his TCM Picks from their upcoming lineup. The director of “Crazy Rich Asians,” “In the Heights,” and the upcoming “Wicked” is following in Guillermo del Toro’s footsteps in highlighting a great film that sometimes doesn’t get as much love as it should. Watch Chu’s picks in the video below.
Del Toro picked Alfred Hitchcock’s “Suspicion” among his favorites. It’s one of IndieWire’s as well, and we put it at #10 on our list of Hitchcock’s greatest movies. But that film is often overlooked, even by Hitchcock fans.
Similarly, movie musical lovers sometimes overlook Henry King’s 1956 adaptation of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Carousel,” starring Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae. The people who love it, though, fiercely advocate for it, and Chu is among them.

Rotten Tomatoes might just be a review aggregator, but its influence is significant — inordinate, you might say. The website that should give you a rough guide as to what critics think about a film has become the arbiter of whether a film is deemed good or not, or in Rt parlance, "fresh" or "rotten." This binary would be fine if Rt wasn't as influential as it is, but these days the Tomatometer's reach is wide, and our adherence to its decrees often borders on unflinching. A green splat is enough to put most casual viewers off a film, which is a shame because that means hordes of people are overlooking unfairly-maligned classics like "The Comedy," or worse, the delights of the seven John Travolta movies to achieve a 0% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.
On the other end of the spectrum, there are a handful of movies that have garnered a rare 100% rating,...

The Olympic host city is one of cinema’s favourite places, whether real or romanticised, in films ranging from Breathless to Ratatouille and La Haine
The Paris Olympics are being held at the very time of year when the City of Light is least desirable as a destination, as all those inhabitants who vacate the city in August for their summer getaways well know. Cole Porter might have recommended Paris when it sizzles, but when it sweats? An acquired taste. Sometimes the city is best enjoyed from a distance – via the Olympics coverage if you wish, or the surfeit of films that have made Paris a veritable capital of cinema.
Like any tourist, there’s no shame in starting with the obvious: Parisians may roll their eyes at the airbrushed Montmartre in Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Amélie (2001), but this gaudy romantic bonbon still has its winsome charms. It’s only a...

Getting into "The Twilight Zone" is easy, but picking the perfect "Twilight Zone" episode for newcomers to the series? Not so much. The show has plenty of excellent episodes, but not all of them appeal to every audience. Some are the favored choice of horror fans, while others lean more sci-fi. Some aim to moralize, while others simply entertain with twisty, ironic, and sometimes silly stories.
There are dozens of viable entry points for the greatest anthology series in TV history, but one has consistently worked best for me over the years: "Five Characters in Search of an Exit," an existential yet optimistic one-room play of sorts that's nestled in the middle of the show's third season. If you haven't seen this episode, it's best to go in blind: its final twist is one of the show's best, not only for its cleverness, but the rare "Twilight Zone" perspective shift that delights rather than terrifies.

Elizabeth Taylor hurt her hip. And Sharon Stone’s life would never be the same.
It was May 1995, and the Basic Instinct star, then 37, was at the Cannes Film Festival plugging her new movie, The Quick and the Dead, when she was approached by Dr. Mathilde Krim, founder of the American Foundation for AIDS Research. Would Stone consider standing in for the ailing Taylor as host of the charity’s star-studded annual fundraiser on the Riviera?
She said yes, as she had for years for any ask amfAR had of her. But years earlier, it was not an easy decision. In the late ’80s, AIDS was a disease still shrouded in stigma and shame, even as it devastated much of the artistic community. Stone was warned that taking the gig might very well “ruin her career.”

To quote Alice Cooper (and poorly paraphrase “High School Musical 2”), school’s out for summer. With Boppenheimer hitting air-conditioned theaters midway through July — just as countless actors and screenwriters head into the heat to join picket-lines in New York and Los Angeles — summer 2023 will no doubt prove a memorable one for Hollywood. There’s something about the old time movies that just make you feel different. They have something, an unusual vibe, that makes you fall in love with the story instantly and root for the characters, even if they are a little cartoonishly crafted.
One of the most popular, if not legendary, movies of the 60s is definitely Breakfast at Tiffany’s, released in 1961. It’s a romantic comedy drama featuring the one and only Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, a young, naive and a little cynical woman, who spends her mornings window-shopping at Tiffany’s.
The movie is a staple of rom-coms, as it focuses on the main character in denial that she is in love with a young man from her building, but she eventually gives in. The movie has a huge following and Hepburn is absolutely adored in it, but there's another movie from the 60's with her that's much better.

Before John Williams became the flagship film composer-conductor anyone thought of when they thought about the Hollywood Bowl, that honor belonged to Henry Mancini. And in some years, when Los Angeles is particularly lucky, it still does, even though the scorer behind “The Pink Panther,” “Days of Wine and Roses” and other classic scores has been gone for 30 years now. This Sunday, the LA Phil will devote the Bowl’s traditional opening night to a 100th birthday celebration for the man who, arguably more than any other, turned movie scores into a truly populist artform… and who conducted at the Bowl 29 times.
It’s not even the only major event involving Mancini’s legacy this weekend. Friday will see the release of a tribute album, “The Henry Mancini 100th Sessions – Henry Has Company,” that features among its guests Lizzo, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock and, not incidentally,...

Highlighted by Bulgari ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the new documentary film An Emperor’s Jewel — The Making of the Bulgari Hotel Roma gorgeously documents the creation of one of the most beautiful new places to stay in Italy.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Bulgari CEO Jean-Christophe Babin says the latest Bulgari hotel shares a few traits with the legendary jeweler’s just-released high-jewelry collection, chief among them: “We always approach it with the idea of creating the best ever,” says Babin, the brand’s global CEO since 2013. “The sky is the limit.”
In Aeterna — the 150-piece high-jewelry collection that debuted on May 20 in Rome with Anne Hathaway and Chopra Jonas in attendance — that translates to an abundance of diamonds, emeralds and other gemstones, while the latest Bulgari Hotel takes that “sky’s the limit” notion to the next level. The Bulgari Hotel Roma opened its doors in June 2023 and has...
