Mary's kid brother needs an operation and, in order to pay for it, Mary goes to a Hollywood studio and applies for a job as an actress. Mary is given a job as a waitress in the commissary, and gets to meet 40 actors, actresses and directors, none of whom tip big enough to enable Mary to earn enough money to pay for an operation. Will Mary become an actress and make some big money? Does corn grow in Iowa?

Megan and Gilbert are happily married and expect to be together for life, but an argument over an insignificant issue gets out of control and results in a divorce. Years later they happen to meet at a summer resort, where Gilbert is staying with his new wife Viola and Megan is there as a companion to a rich old woman.

Dick Alden, a 12-year-old boy mistreated by his stepfather and picked on by the other residents of his village, is wrongly accused of setting fire to the local schoolhouse. He runs away but vows to take his revenge on the village. Years later he gets his chance when he returns to take over the mill he has inherited--he plans to close it down, which would throw most of the people out of work and destroy the economy. However, he runs into someone from his past that could put a halt to his plans.

A woman, Mrs. Cameron (Estelle Taylor), is blackmailed by her lover's roommate, Blake (Philo McCullough). Her husband, Mr. Cameron (Wyndham Standing), is then accused of the murder of her lover, Ronnie Sears (Vernon Steele). The resolution reveals the culprit to be Blake, who confesses before falling to his death.

The story of a wealthy young flapper, Theodora Bland (Pauline Garon), and the amorous adventures and misadventures she has after being expelled from a fashionable and costly east-coast boarding school.

Broadway star Fay Leslie (Anna Q. Nilsson) turns down her dancing partner, Paul Atkins (Earle Foxe), partner, and instead marries Don Hampton (Freeman Wood), a wealthy socialite. She soon finds herself rejected by her husband's snobbish family. Her problems grow larger when Paul re-enters her life as a guest at a party thrown for the newly-weds.

Michael Frazer, newly rich from his invention of a can-opener, has drifted away from Jane, his wife, who persists in her old-fashioned ways. He advises his daughter Marcia to marry "someone congenial so that when love goes you will have common interests." Neighboring architect Jack Ballard obtains the contract to design Frazer's house through the friendship of his attractive wife, Emily, with Frazer. Emily and Frazer become intimate friends, arousing the concern of Mrs. Frazer and Jack Ballard. Determined to teach his wife a lesson and win her back, Jack asks Marcia Frazer to run away with him. She consents but later reconsiders and they return home. Frazer realizes that Mrs. Ballard meant nothing to him, and Jack is reunited with his wife.

Opera singer Julia Montfort (Irene Rich) returns to the stage when her husband, Verdugo Montford (Josef Swickard) loses his job...and then gives him work secretly paid for by herself. When a temperamental artist Babette Hermann (Pauline Garon) reveals the secret, Verdugo becomes disillusioned. Later, though, his faith in his wife is restored.

Lawrence Hallor's plans to build model tenements for the poor are wrecked by his sweetheart's father, John Hamilton, a tyrannical political boss. He revives his plan under another identity, and Hamilton orders him crushed; but when Alice reveals his true identity, Hamilton revokes his order and sanctions the housing plan as well as his daughter's marriage.

Jack Oakes, the playboy son of a railroad president, is disowned by his father, and takes a job in the railroads yards under an assumed name. Mary Traves still believes he has the right stuff, and he soon gets a chance to show it when The Midnight Expess is on a collision course with a run-away freight train.

A minister's son trains to be a champion boxer.

Railroad depot stationmaster Tom Grady (Wilfred Lucas) discovers a plot to blow up a railroad bridge in order to holdup and rob the train. Railroad trouble-shooter Jack Adams (William Fairbanks) sets out to foil the plot.

Grace Danton's father loses his best driver and is in danger of losing money he needs to erase debts. Grace's sweetheart, Jack Grant, agrees to drive in the race if Danton does not prosecute his brother, who has stolen money from Danton. Jack is abducted by his brother, but he escapes in time to win the race and the hand of Grace.

Jim Owens (Robert Frazer), a reformed thief and successful inventor, meets quiet, meek, refined Mary Adams (Elaine Hammerstein) at a jazz party. They fall in love and all goes well until she finds out about his sordid past. Only after he rescues her from a blazing forest fire does she forgive him and confirm her love for him.

After being fired from his job on the "Evening Star" newspaper, cub reporter Jack Darwin (William Fairbanks) with the help of undercover police woman Ethel Bennett (Eva Novak), prevents the theft of the valuable Riko jewels. Jack gets his job back...and marries Ethel.

Mildred Gower (Alma Rubens), in order to sane her extravagant mother,Mrs. Elton Gower (Eugenie Besserer), from bankruptcy, shame and scandal, the young society girl is forced to accept the proposal Lemuel Sidall (William Welsh), a wealthy man she loathes.

Consenting to aid secret serviceman Bill Parsons in recapturing the Benson gang, Henry Avery, wealthy young criminologist, sends Blinky, his assistant, to the waterfront to watch for the thieves while he attends a reception at the home of Mrs. Cornelius Westervelt. There Avery meets Alice Carter, whom he recognizes as a member of the Benson gang. Avery gains possession of the gang's loot (for which they attempt to eliminate him), is captured, and then is freed by Blinky in time to prevent the gang's robbery of Mrs. Westervelt. Benson goes over a cliff in an exciting chase; and Avery is pleased to learn that Alice is really Parson's daughter working to capture the gang.

En route to apply for a job as horse-trainer for Colonel Doon, ex-jockey Billy Decker rescues a girl on a runaway horse and discovers that she is Jennie Doon, the late colonel's daughter and manager of the stables. Jennie hires Billy to train Moonstone for the Kentucky Derby and approves of her brother, Johnny, as jockey. While the Doons work with Moonstone, Harvey Boyd places his hopes on his horse, Bluebell, the derby favorite, so that he may satisfy the demand of Amos Snivens that he repay certain loans. Boyd unsuccessfully offers to buy Moonstone and attempts to bribe Billy. While Billy and Johnny guard the stable, Boyd's men drug them and set fire to the building. Moonstone is rescued, Johnny is injured, and Jennie herself dons the family silks and arrives at the track in time to ride to victory. Boyd must answer to the sheriff for his tactics.

Although she is in love with Kenneth McLane, a poor draftsman, Mary Stevens decides to marry Chester James, a young lawyer whose practice pays for his cigarettes while his mother pays for his yacht. When she tells Ken, he reproaches her for selling out and goes off to the oil fields alone. After Chester and Mary are married, his mother, upon whom they are financially dependent, dictates their every action, going so far as to forbid them to have children. Mary insists that they try to make it on their own, and they move out, but Chester soon returns to his mother, leaving Mary with an unborn child and unpaid bills. When the baby is born, it is put up for adoption and, unknown to Mary, is given a home with Ken, who has returned a millionaire from the oil fields. Mary disappears and is missing for 5 years. Ken finally finds her in a driving snowstorm on Christmas Eve, and he unites her with the little girl she has never seen.

John Smart (William Haines), a hack writer, inherits a fortune from a distant relative and buys a castle in Laupheim. He pursues what appears to be a ghost of a beautiful woman but he learns that the so-called ghost is the estranged wife, Countess von Pless (Madge Bellamy), of the castle's previous owner, the cruel Count von Pless (Stuart Holmes). A romance blossoms despite the efforts of Count von Pless to convict Smart of obstructing justice.
