Inspector Shiv Nath is a honest and diligent police officer in Bombay, and lives with his wife, Radha, and a young son, Arjun. While making several arrests in connection with counterfeit money and drugs, he comes to know that his close friend, Karamchand is also involved in this racket. Before he could take any action, he himself is arrested by the police for possession of fake money and drugs, and sentenced to a jail term, but he escapes and his whereabouts are unknown. Radha loses her mind and is institutionalized, while Arjun takes to petty crime and on reaching adult-hood is the Don of the area known and feared as "Dus Numbri". He meets with and falls in love with a petty thief and card-sharp, Rosemary Fernandes. When Radha accidentally meets with Rosemary, she thinks it is Sundari, Karamchand's wife, and then Radha starts to regain her sanity. But not for long, as Arjun, Radha, and Rosemary will soon be enmeshed in a plot that may well rid them of their senses, that is if it does not kill them first.

The Kapoor family consists of Kishorilal, his wife Lajjo, son, Prakash, and daughter, Geeta. Kishorilal and Geeta toil hard to ensure that Prakash gets a good education so that he can study in America, return home, and repay the loans that the family has taken. Prakash does get to complete his studies, he also travels to America, upgrades, and returns home to be employed as Kishorilal's boss. Then Prakash gets married to Reena, who comes from a wealthy family, and moves in with them. Geeta confides in Reena that she has met a young man by the name of Ranjit, both are in love and want to get married. The entire family is overjoyed, but their joys are short-lived when Ranjit's dad, Mayadas, asks him to get married to the daughter of a wealthy man, when he refuses, he is asked to leave. Reena wants a better lifestyle and convinces Prakash to not only move out, but not have anything to do with his parents and their loans. The onus is once again on Kishorilal and Geeta to repay the loan, but Kishorilal becomes ill and is unable to work. Geeta gets chance to travel to Paris for 3 weeks to further her career. When she returns, nothing is the same anymore. Her mother has lost her vision in a fire, her father has passed away, and a deadbeat Ranjit is considering taking to crime just to stay alive.

Geeta ends up with two suitors after her father goes to bring home a prospective groom and mistakenly picks up the wrong man.

Story of two young brothers estranged during a situational criminal act leading to their long separation. Ravi grows up in her hands, develops lot of affection on Dinanath, Tulsi and Parvati. After 20 years Tulsi reveals the truth on her death bed, Kishore does not attend to her funeral, because of his status in the society and Dinanath also dies in car accident. Now Ravi decides to teach his parents a lesson for ill-treating his grandparents with the help of Advocate Baldev Raj (Utpal Dutt) and his daughter Sarita (Rekha).

A medical student, Amarnath meets and falls in love with the daughter of a herbal medicine healer, Chanda while preparing for his exams in Darjeeling. He returns to Calcutta to sit his exams. Raghu Shukla lives in a small town in India with his wife, Sarojini; two sons - Naresh and Ramesh, who are married to Sudha and Shobha respectively, and altogether have three children, an unmarried daughter, Seema, who is away studying in a hostel, and a nephew named Prabhu. When the time comes for Raghu to retire, his sons and daughter-in-laws are thrilled as he will get his retirement savings. But all are disappointed when Raghu pays off his debts instead and decides to live as a dependent on his sons. Naresh decides to move out to Bombay, and informs them that he can only take Sarojini with him, while Ramesh says his income can only accommodate Raghu. In this way, Raghu and Sarojini are separated. Sarojini re-locates to Bombay where she will eventually be treated as a maidservant, and live a life confined in the four walls, while Raghu will be dependent for all his needs on Ramesh and Shobha. When Seema comes for a visit, she witnesses her parents' plight and decides to take an extreme step to alleviate their sufferings - a step that will send shock waves to Ajay, her boyfriend, as well as the rest of the Shukla family.

Dreaded gangster Babubhai is involved in all possible criminal activities. Of late his activities are being sabotaged by a fellow criminal named Shankar Dada. Babubhai entraps him with the help of beautiful Bindiya, and gets him on his side with a 50-50 partnership, to which Shankar agrees. Babubhai comes to know that Shankar has a look-alike brother named Ram, who is a police inspector, and has been assigned to this area to put a stop to all criminal activities. Babubhai asks Shankar to copy Ram's mannerisms, and replace him at the police station, which will make Babubhai's criminal syndicate virtually unstoppable, to which Shankar agrees. Ram is abducted and held by Babubhai, while Shankar replaces him at the police station, not realizing that these actions are going to change their lives forever.

Orphaned at a young age, Neetu Singh lives a wealthy lifestyle in Raigadh in a palace which is presided over by her aunt, Rani Maa, and Neetu's paternal uncle, Rajan Singh. She travels and lives for a few years in Switzerland, then returns back to Bombay, India, and has a run-in with some slum-dwellers near Juhu. A few days later she is abducted by two men, who had initially claimed to be palace guards, and is rescued by a male named Raju Khan, a career thief and con-man, who was one of the slum dwellers in Juhu. She reaches Raigadh and shortly thereafter is shocked to find out that Raju is claiming to be the long-lost son of Rani Maa and her betrothed. Her disbelief turns to love when the Court Astrologer confirms that Raju indeed is the sole heir to Raigadh, and both of them fall in love with each other much to the displeasure of Prem Singh, the illegitimate son of Dilip Singh (brother of Rajan) who wants Neetu and Raigadh for himself. What Neetu does not know is that Prem has hired Raju to impersonate Rani Maa's son.

Anoop loves Roopa D'Souza, and will do anything to marry her. But Roopa has some doubts about him. Eventually, he does manage to convince her that he is worthy of her love, and she consents. Shortly after that Roopa's mom, Rosy, passes away; Roopa is involved in an accident, and hospitalized. When Roopa returns home, Anoop comes to visit her, and is shocked to find her in bed with Ravi. Roopa refuses to clarify, and it is up to Anoop to wait for Roopa to change her mind, or to marry someone else.

A man (Amitabh Bachchan) is found wounded on railway tracks and when he awakens he has no memory of who he is and doesn't remember anything about his life. Six years later he is living with a wealthy couple and is now named Naresh Dutt. One day he begins to regain his memory when he watches a film and realizes that the actress in the film is related to him somehow. It is then that he discovers the actress in the film is none other than his wife Rekha Roy (Rekha). He finds out that she is now a very successful film actress changing her name to Sunita Devi and her manager is none other than Ranjeet Malik (Prem Chopra) who used to be his best friend. In flashbacks he remembers that his real name is Amit Roy and Ranjit was the one who attempted to kill him six years earlier by throwing him off the train he was traveling on with Rekha. Amit also discovers that his young son who is now 10 years old has been sent to a boarding school and sets out a plan to regain custody of his son. First however he plans on taking revenge against Ranjit. Amit comes up with a plan to re-enter Rekha and Ranjit's lives by disguising himself as a film producer. He meets with Rekha and Ranjit and offers Rekha the opportunity to act in his new film titled Do Anjaane. Rekha and Ranjit grow suspicious of Naresh Dutt as they start to realize that he bears a striking resemblance to Rekha's supposedly deceased husband Amit Roy and the storyline of his film eerily mirrors Rekha's past life. Will she discover the true identity of Naresh Dutt? and what revenge has Amit/Naresh got planned for Ranjit?

A singer by profession, Suraj (Rajesh Khanna) gets stranded in resthouse in the coutnryside during a rainstorm. While there he experiences ununsual feelings, as if he has been there before. He feels himself transported to another time and era, to another birth, and drawn to a woman named Ratna (Hema Malini). He is unable to leave this experience behind him, and decides to find out what this means. He discovers that in his past life he was a Chief Singer in the emperor's court, his name was Prakash and he had fallen in love with a courtesan named Ratna, much to the chargin and anger of his family and the emperor's and his officials. They are tragically separated. He subsequently comes across a portrait of Ratna, and shortly after he meets a gypsy, Jhumri (also Hema Malini) who looks exactly like Ratna. Soon Jhumri is also able to recollect her past life, and her love for Prakash. This does not auger well with Rita Malhotra (Asha Sachdev) who loves Suraj, and Appa (Prem Chopra), the son of the leader of the gypsies (Madan Puri), who will not stop at anything to make Jhumri his wife. Appa steals the portrait, and instigates the gypsies against Suraj, so that he can marry Jhumri, and perhaps separate the two lovers again in this birth also.

Vijay lives with his mother in a palatial house deep in the jungles in South India where he makes a living trapping animals for circuses, zoos - both nationally and internationally. He meets with beautiful U.S.-returned Nimmi, both fall in love with each other and want to get married. Vijay's mother cautions them both against separating new-born animals from their birth mothers, but both refuse to listen. Then the unexpected happens, a mother lioness, angered at Vijay for taking her cubs, attacks him, and leaves him badly wounded. With the help of his mother, and Nimmi, Vijay recovers and despite of what happened, and his mother's warning, he again goes to trap animals - this time a baby elephant for a circus. He does manage to trap the elephant in a pit, but the angered mother elephant pursues them, even after they transport it in a truck. Her maternal and protective instincts come to the foreplay, she overtakes the truck, dismantles it, but is chased away by Vijay and his employees. She turns to attack Vijay, but his mother intervenes - and is instantly attacked and crushed. Holding his mother in his arms, Vijay swears to hunt them the elephant as well as all other animals and kill them one by one, but his dying mother makes him promise that he will not do so, but instead return all cubs to their parents, as well as the baby elephant. Vijay promises to do so, and his mother passes away. Vijay is devastated, in heart-wrenching sorrow & pain, he calls out to his mother, and carries out her promise. He releases all trapped animals, and returns the cubs to the jungle. But returning the baby elephant, Ganesh, is another issue altogether as it has been transported to the city, and must be brought back. When Vijay goes to bring it back, he finds out that the truck had broken down, the elephant had escaped and is lose in the city. He desperately goes around looking for it. In the meantime back home, the mother elephant is on a rampage, enraged at being separated from it's child, it crushes vegetation, attacks villagers, and tears down their dwellings. And the next target that looms before it is none other than Vijay's beloved - Nimmi.

Simpleton and honest village farmer, Dharamchand alias Dharam is overjoyed when his wife, Radha gives birth to a baby boy who is christen with the name Raju. He comes to the rescue of three city-bred men, Ajit, Suresh and Sujit when they are at the mercy of a man-eating tiger; please with this they decides to offer Dharam a job in Bombay whenever he needs it. Delighted and when things are not quite rosy in the village Dharam, Radha, Raju and his sister, Laxmi decides to move to the city where-by the duo provides living quarters and appoint Dharam as the managing director of their warehouse along with a fat pay packet. Unfortunately calamity destructs when Dharam is arrested by the police for smuggling goods and is placed before the court where-by he pleads his innocence but his bosses testify against him resulting in Dharam getting 18 months imprisonment as well as an additional 6 months for contempt of court. After completing his sentence Dharam goes to his residence to find that nothing is the same anymore as his family are living as destitute while his sister Laxmi has committed suicide after being molested by Sujit. Enraged Dharam decides to seek out the three, mercilessly killing them; this behavior gets notice by the bosses of the underworld who decides to elect Dharam as their ring leader thus Dharam is able to make things right for him and his family by moving in a spacious bungalow and sending Raju to London for further education. Dharam hopes to get Raju marry to his crime-partner daughter but Raju gives his heart to Geeta Varma, the girl he reaches in London. This pits both father and son against each other and to worsen matter Ajit is still alive and plan on settling scores with Dharam once and for all.

Shankar a simple villager comes to Bombay in such of work to improve his financial condition but circumstances force him to take up smuggling.
