Julien is a left-leaning student whose politics and love interest end up clashing as the young man makes a long, epic journey through his years at a private school in Paris when Algeria is fighting France for its independence, up to his time spent as a courier for Algeria's National Liberation Front (known by their French acronym, the FLN). While at school, Julien already had a conflict with his good friend Gilles and the right-wing politics that Gilles embraces. This relationship will come to have a crucial bearing on the future, as Julien continues on his path to maturity.

Two quarreling lovers from opposite sides of the economic scale take central stage in this drama about Veronique and Adrien. Veronique is wealthy and from the provinces, Adrien is impoverished and his ancestors come from Brittany. In spite of their different backgrounds, the two fall in love, marry, and eventually have a baby girl. At just about that time, Veronique decides to go back to school, and Adrien becomes both mother and father to their baby. Unable to cope with Veronique's new-found intellectual friends and different lifestyle, Adrien clashes with her, and their arguments lead to a separation for awhile. The two then get back together again, but not for long. It is on a return trip from visiting his mother in Brittany that Adrien's life undergoes a dramatic change, and his story takes an equally unexpected turn.

Fred is a gambler and deep in debt. He owes crime boss Victor a lot of money and the time to pay has come. Gégé, his loyal friend, advises him to make money quickly, or face the consequences. But Fred, at this moment, has other ideas in his head. He is obsessed with his young ex, BB. He is still madly in love with her, but she wants nothing more to do with him. She wants to be happy, far away from Fred, and his gambling. He wants to try again and promises to change, but she will not listen. Fred, without her, sees no reason to keep going. He decides to take a massive risk to refund his debts. He agrees to kill a man. Victor arranges the hit. Fred carries out his contract, but realizes it is a trap: somebody is there who wants to eliminate him. But Fred is prompter to draw his gun and kills the assassin. He knows now that his life will be very difficult. Impossible even with two gangs after him. Then he meets Colette (Girardot). She has had a difficult life and now dreams of peace. She takes care of a scared Fred and falls in love with him. However it may be too late. Fred knows he has to pay his debt and that the only way to do it is to carry the hit...

A divorced father's relationship with his daughter is put to test when he accepts to act on her ideas and they end up in Madrid.

Focuses primarily on three women and the (unseen) man who goes in and out of their lives. One member of this trio is a saleswoman with an open relationship that suddenly closes when she learns that her lover has been unfaithful. It seems that he has dallied with a book-dealer (her nemesis) who ultimately does not propose as much of a threat to the disillusioned saleswoman as a certain actress. Along with these three are several other females who interact with the main protagonists. Set up more in the manner of a stage play with changing scenes and acts.

This parody of the detective-story genre merrily detours into spoofing French foibles as well, making it more of an exercise in verbal gymnastics than a narrative with a mission. Esther is a veterinarian who is certain that her sister has been murdered by her brother-in-law. She convinces two members of the Academie Francaise, the prestigious institution that protects the virginity of the French language, to investigate. Both men are enamored of the woman and are quite willing to enter into competition for her favors. As might be expected from academicians of any ilk, they are inept at digging into a murder mystery and bumble their way through one incident after another. Corpses continue to pile up (not in front of the camera, however) while the two men are sidetracked by their interest in language. Given their positions, they do not want that murdered either.

Mara, a short film by Mike Figgis, is a dramatization of Mara-Marignan from Henry Miller's Quiet Days in Clichy. The 20 minute film was originally shot and broadcast as part of HBO's anthology film Women and Men 2. From the time of production, Figgis distanced himself from the film complaining that although he had been guaranteed final cut, the producers and HBO had re-cut the film prior to broadcast and removed the score he had specifically composed for his film. In 2015, Figgis released a new version of Mara, calling it his version of what the film "might have been".

This documentary foreshadows Jean-Luc Godard's film "Hail Mary" and one of its aims is to find sponsors for its production. Many of the film's hidden mechanisms are exposed here while they are being contemplated and invented.

Champs-Élysées is a French television variety program presented by Michel Drucker and broadcast live from January 16, 1982 to June 1985 and from January 1986 until June 29, 1990 every Saturday evening on Antenne 2 and irregularly on France 2 from November 13, 2010 to May 11, 2013. The show owes its name to the fact that it is performed live from the Pavillon Gabriel, located on avenue Gabriel, along the avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris. The theme song for the show's credits was composed by Jean-Pierre Bourtayre and Jean-Claude Petit. The credits choreography was composed by Redha.
